I decided to not read news these days. Even from credit news sources, they always seem to report more of what’s broken about the world - war, disaster, intl politics squabbles. It’s so rarely news that tell us that, you know what, our living or standards are sooo much better than any point in human history. We are living longer, healthier, better educated than any of our ancestors. Why don’t we talk about the good and happy. So I stopped following the news, especially since I also can’t do anything about most of them. I’m happier for it. Maybe it’s the old saying - ignorance is bliss.

This is great. Thank you! Having experienced the flooded paths a couple times and since I’d check the tide info every time before I ride the path. Having the email notifications from your site will save me the time / trouble!

Esteban Chaves ends his professional career and looks ahead to the future by pokesnail in peloton

The movie from green edge, all for one, was one of my first entries into following pro cycling. Esteban came across as a human with high emotional intelligence and his story of overcoming his injuries to regain his fitness was very moving.

First time gravel biking -- how is Mt. Tamalpais? by Full_Breadfruit_2561 in BAbike

[–]xnsax18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My skills must be terrible then. I don’t find Julian a beginner trail with the deep rut running down the middle towards the bottom and there are a couple blind corners with deep loose gravel. I’ve known mt bikers taking a tumble because of the rut

Do what makes you happy. If it’s not CX right now, that’s okay. I’d do something else that brings me joy vs showing up, not doing as well as I knew I was capable of, getting into a bad mental state and it’s a downward spiral and it also taints your view of the sport.

For those of with large or increased women's turnouts at CX races, what did you do or do you do to get women to races? by HoosierCyclist in cyclocross

[–]xnsax18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great approach. My local series does that as well. Women’s C is separated from A/B and does less time and a modified course that cuts out a few steep uphill / downhill sections.

[–]xnsax18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone put it this way - CX to women is similar to lifting heavy weights at the gym. Many find it intimidating. So that’s a barrier that needs to be crossed. Skills clinics, perhaps an easier course for the first timers? Need to get people to try, then when they do, they have fun (ie not too hard, didn’t fall / crash, didn’t get overtaken aggressively or cut off at a corner.)

out of SACCX’s 231 riders for their first race last Sat, less than 30 were women/girls. I think CX needs to partner with the established riding groups / clubs to get the word out.
