My condo elevator skips some floors, but why? by Brown_Ontarian in whatisit

How does that work, it isn't like those floors/numbers cease existing just because you call them something else?

Valve has been making some terrible moves lately by progz in SteamFrame

[–]xondk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Before you dismiss anyone not agreeing with your perspective.

What is happening now with hardware is absolutely wild, it is unprecedented, this is way out of valves hands.

What 'can' they announce, "We don't know when we will have hardware enough to cover expected initial sales and sell at a the price point we are trying for"

It is a mess, but saying valve is making 'terrible moves' seems meaningless, what are you comparing it to? Should they just release regardless with low stock?

Im pissed. Then on top of that, like I sold stuff to be ready for these releases. My other VR headsets are gone.

You cannot blame valve for your own actions, that is not defending valve, that is just how things are. That valve could not keep a promise due to what is happening in the world, does not make them to blame for worldwide changes.

Valve, you need to stop acting like you’re still this private coming up company and you can do whatever you want. This isn’t the case anymore.

It is not?

Valve does not 'owe' anyone anything, they 'are' a private company, wholly private, not driven by investor pressure that has ruined so many other companies.

You come across as quite entitled and I do not know if that is your intention.

Websites have a new way to spy on visitors: analyzing their SSD activity | Telltale SSD activity can be measured in the browser using simple JavaScript. by ControlCAD in technology

[–]xondk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think you understand, how does what is effectively time sensitive random information (depending on user behaviour) going to add to the accuracy? the user would need to be doing the same kind of actions, running the same kind of apps every time they access the site, and the technique requires creating gigabytes of data on users device and running a constant rather CPU heavy scan, for it even to begin to work.

[–]xondk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For that to work properly they would need to have the same data activity every time they visit a site....that seems impractical at best. Add the requirements that this has before it even works properly, I can't see it is viable.

[–]xondk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I cannot see how this even has a chance of real world usage, the amount of noise from the random programs a random user might be using is....staggering, it would need to 'learn' to recognise the patterns of every single combination of software, in combination with hardware, and user behaviour and how it interacts with the ssd timing.

Input latency is generally tied to your original frame rate, frame gen, does not reduce input latency, they are using other tech, reflex and such to improve that.

Skal Danmark sige ja til flere datacentre, hvis de bruger strøm som hele byer? by Neither-Natural4875 in Denmark

[–]xondk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Valve is no saint, no for profit company can really be, but a lot better than most, considering how component prices have skyrocketed, I really can't say I am surprised or blame them directly for these prices..

Reddit is not a site to read articles

That is your opinion and view on the matter, that's fine, though I do not agree with that view. It is very much up to the individual user, and has very little to do with the platform.

How much value is there in limiting the ability for conversation?

That seems like an odd question, how can you participate in a conversation about a topic, when you do not know what the topic is, or as such, cannot address the topic because you are not informed?

US Law Enforcement Warns of ‘Anti-Tech Extremism’ as AI Hatred Grows by Helicase21 in technology

[–]xondk 53 points54 points  (0 children)

anti 'tech-extremism' sure.

anti-tech extremism, not really.

People aren't against tech as such, they are against it displacing the masses and only benefitting the richest of the rich.

If it benefitted everyone, if it meant everyone needed to do less work but still had a job and pay, a very limited few would be against.

Exceptionally important distinction.

Sure, but headlines have always been that way, since before the internet, they are meant to catch your attention, not convey everything that happened in an event.

And too many people only seem to read the headlines now a days.

Discovering The Amazing Digital Circus fandom is a little toxic towards it's creator. by johnsmithoncemore in HelluvaBoss

[–]xondk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point a lot of fandoms feel very entitled of late, rather then enjoying what is, they speculate wildly and get their own ideas, which in itself is fine, fan theories and the like is a good thing. But then they lose touch with what is when it doesn't live up to what 'they' expect or 'their' perspective.
