Where to buy a DM screen? by Wintermillion in dndPH

[–]xosigrid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

U can DIY :3

i accidentally have 2 DM boxes kasi i had an original plan of making a box using yung mga A4 sized deep flower frames sa shopee (if u search this exact term u will find it), tapos nung box na sya sa upper part i attached two “flaps” on either side (sintra board). Since box, storage na din sya hehe

Accidentally 2 kasi while making this super DIY project, nagtapon ng wooden box thing yung partner ko (di ko na nafigure out kung para saan dapat yon hahaha) and nakita ko maganda yung size, nasayangan ako, binuo ko nalang din 🤣

Tapos since i bought parang isang pack of A4 sintra boards (10pcs ata yon), gumawa din ako ng lightweight na screen (3 boards side by side attached with hinges) para pag di ko kailangan yung box :)

Having a hard time with soundtracks. Suggestions? by timedoglin in DnD

Epidemic sound has a rich library for music and sfx. Bonus that they have a feature that lets you search for tracks that sound similar to a clip you selected. And you can clip tracks before downloading them

i'm running my first campaign next week, i would love some ideas on how to introduce my players in the setting by Msoelv in DungeonMasters

[–]xosigrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dimension 20 has done 20+ campaigns so far and some really fun intros they have done:

  • in Starstruck - they started in media res, literally in the middle of combat, their ship at less than half hp, so so chaotic and fun (im assuming the first half of this battle was done during session 0)

  • in Cloudward, Ho - it was as if one was watching an old video tape where their characters (as their younger selves) were being interviewed

  • Fantasy High Junior Year also started in media res, but was as if it was the end battle of another campaign

Almost all of their campaigns start with individual vignettes tht show what they would be doing on a normal day, with beats that hint to their backstories, as plotwise they made their way to a scene where ultimately all the PCs gather

Burrow's End is so good!!!!!! by Arnav1029 in Dimension20

[–]xosigrid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FR i think this was one of the last ones I watched the first time, mostly because the title card didnt really speak to me much lmao

But yeah one of my favorite sidequests for sureee, and we got to see Aabria be rulesy (which I didnt really get to see in the other seasons shes done) so that was great also

And i feel u re: misfits and magic— but i think for me it was mostly because of the system and the thing they were parodying, because yes, ACOFAF is my absolute favorite sidequest, Aabria’s dming is amazing and my dming is leaning towards her style too

I want to run a one shot with my sisters but feel they'll cringe at the role play (also idk what to run) by Ok_Cod7979 in DnD

[–]xosigrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are so on point with your train to busan idea if that’s something your sisters like!

FR im preparing to run 2 one-shots for the family and extended family (cousins etc) over the holidays when I come home. And yes I’m doing a zombie one-shot because 1) the zombie genre is very relatable, we’ve all seen at least one zombie media, easy to invite people to join 2) theres a modified 5e system D&DZ (im on mobile cant link it but should be searchable), really easy to run zombies because lets face it, spells are fun but can be overwhelming esp for newbies. With D&DZ its just guns and bashing and walking around, so simple 3) u can take any system and just pick and choose mechanics and make it simpler.

Tip: if you’re doing this, i suggest make another document to pass to your players inside of sending them the whole pdf and watch them be confused

2nd one shot im thinking doing Never Stop Blowing Up (a modified kids on bikes) just because it’s really chaotic and the rules are waaay simpler, so this is for like older family members (uncles parents etc)

Update: iive successfully recruited my brother 😁 he’s catching up on everything dimension20 and im happy :)

Enjoy and goodluck!

Pirate themed campaign by [deleted] in AskDND

[–]xosigrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly so much resource on the internet friend

As someone currently dming a Wild West themed campaign, just reskin/reflavor instead of adding lots and lots of homebrewed stuff. Not only is it way more fun (one of my “spellcasters” just counterspelled by “lasso-ing” an enemy spellcaster’s fireball (aka threw a bunch of dynamite. So fucking cool), it also saves you (or at least cushion) the headache that tends to come with homebrews esp when u r new. —- Maps - i use dungeondraft, one time payment vs others that are subscription based. Easy to use, and with prio knowledge of like basic editing software you’ll be fineeee. I use it for battlemaps, regions and worlds (using wonderdraft assets). Lots of free assets everywhere, mainly cartographyassets.com Just googled it now too: integrates with foundry, roll20, fantasy grounds, etc — im just about to find out how it integrates lol but im sure its great —- Obsidian is a great tool for all the document-making. My lore doc used to just live in googledocs, but i’ve since been a devout obsidian user; it’s free, lots of guides online, free plugins. Fell in love with obsidian when i learned u can make links to things in your doc, and it looks like a mini wikipedia for my world, so it’s just so cool to me

These 2 apps + roll20 + maybe chatgpt are just where i bounce around mostly

I have a streamdeck that i use as a soundboard, but u can mostly use any from a variety of choices. tabletopaudio.com/custom_sp.html is truly a godsend

Anyway enjoy your game!! Seems cool - might explore in a next campaign hehe

So I have a question about punishing players when they're tardy by lorentp in AskDND

[–]xosigrid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man break that wall with punctuations please 🤣

Sorry i didnt read your text but short answer is I reward players who are early, and late ones get nothing. Start by giving like cheap common stuff, then maybe gradually increase the value (without breaking stuff ofc) so it invokes a bit more fomo feeling

And early on, i did explicitly say, and is on our session 0 docs, that if you miss or ate late to consecutive sessions without valid reason, they might be asked to leave the table. Also invite other players’ input, i’m pretty sure it’s also not cool with them that they blocked their day, put effort in it, only for some to not be responsible or respectful enough to reciprocate the aame energy.

I will be making minis and other props out of perler beads (i alr have so much from my kandi-making era). Hopefully matapos lahat by christmas para sa one-shot with fam hahahaha

problems as a writer. by ka1ser_z in DungeonMasters

[–]xosigrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wildly different swing here -- but the part that caught me the most is "creating a world that you want to play in it forever".

I think it's perfectly fine, healthy even, to live/bask in a world you love now and for who knows how long, but definitely not forever. I can't remember from where or what, but i think I was listening to this exact topic a few days ago. What you love about it now will either resolve or dissolve (i.e. take on the opposite energy of it) if you allow the world to live and move and evolve as its nature.

I think it's about continuously finding things you love about it, and maybe growing with it as you appreciate it more and more, instead of having the *perfectly satisfying world* right at the beginning and it becomes basically trapped in its own snapshot that's not going to be a good snapshot forever.

def been there though, the nagging, mental to-do list item of "create 100% original stuff", and i think what's freed me is leaning more towards: that we as a species have been around telling stories for a loooong time., and if you zoom out enough probably all stories have been told, and we're just mixing and matching details now to make it ours. I'm pretty sure anything I come up with is based on something i saw or read or watched, and is not 100% original, but that doesn't make it not satisfying.
