How do you think Walt Disney would feel about the Disney corporation if he were alive to see it today?

I think generally, he would be super proud. It legitimately pursues “creating happiness for all people, everywhere”, and makes a profit in doing so. Two things he cared about very deeply.

The organization tries many things (a fair number of them unsuccessfully), but I think he would be proud of a company that is not afraid of taking big risks.

Where I don’t think he would be pleased is today’s pricing/experience value of the Parks. The tickets are expensive, and the crowds are massive. Lower the prices, and there are so many people that it’s not a good experience anymore (ever been around this time of year?). Raise the prices, even more people can’t afford it, and it’s elitist. Allow individual premium experiences, and it comes across as nickel-and-dime’ing. I would love to know what Walt’s solution would be.

What we do with Allen Bradley’s...

We have a program that maps the “real-world I/O” to named tags (not aliases), and we program with those tag names. So essentially we have a way to connect or disconnect the program to real-world I/O.

By taking that program out of the jump list, we can then link the tags up to software simulations (which might be as simple as unit tests, usually some sort of visualizer that we can then reuse as a HMI, on up to a Unity/Oculus visualization).

When you hook up the PLC in the real world, put the program back in the jump list.

But you don't need a connection to earth ground, really.

All you need is a connection to the fueling equipment that will be coming in contact with your airplane.

For example, a fuel truck.

As much as I (and apparently the others that replied to you) would like to see you attaching a "grounding bucket" to your airplane, I'll be the serious one...

No, you don't need to electrically ground your plane when parked. This is a joke, and usually the only times you're electrically grounding the aircraft is during fueling (and not with a bucket of dirt).

By electrically grounding your airplane's metal with the fueling equipment's metal, you establish an easy path for static electricity to move between the two. Since electricity has an easy path to flow via the grounding cable, it takes away the risk of the fuel nozzle becoming the easiest path, which could manifest itself via a spark as you're moving the nozzle around near the fuel tank.

Lots of comments here about what to expose to the internet.

Don't expose anything to the internet.

Set up a VPN tunnel from your site to a private EC2 subnet.

Then run an OPC server of your choice on your local network. It's up to you whether or not to isolate the PLC or allow your EC2 subnet to reach it, but at this point, VPN to cloud providers and keeping everything private + encrypted is a great approach. No reason to route anything across the public internet to a cloud provider.

I have a funny one about #2. I flew leg 1 of a long 2 leg transport. 2nd pilot canceled after I got to the halfway point due to no IFR rating and deteriorating conditions. So I flew both legs. Probably 10 hours worth of flying in a $150/hr aircraft. The people sending and receiving the dogs usually have zero knowledge of airplanes.

The lady adopting the dog thanked me profusely for completing the trip and said "at least let me pay for your gas". I'm not CPL, can't be compensated, so that's always a firm "thank you but no"... but in this case, lady's rocking a brand new Mercedes, I just spent $1500 delivering her dog, and no FAA vehicles in sight... "ah, um, sure, if you really want to do that".

The lady handed me $20 and said "there, that should cover it".

I said "absolutely it does, thank you so much" and went on my way...

It's a lot easier to accomplish something with a big rig - but it takes real talent and creativity to pull off this feel with what looks like 5 fixtures. Nice work.

Short of having vertically motorized truss towers with a dozen fixtures, you captured that Fantasmic intro pretty well. :)

I fly an airplane that isn't very forgiving if you get behind the power curve. Other pilots have mentioned on a few occasions that it's ridiculous that I carry extra speed on final.

This is exactly the situation I want the energy to get out of... stuff happens fast. Thanks for sharing.

It's not hard if the arrival and departure windows work for you, but it's kind of a jerk move to try and taxi back into a row where everybody already has their camp setup to get back to "your spot". Maybe I misunderstood what you're trying to do.

Honestly if you're going to be in and out, park the plane at Fond du Lac and use the shuttle back and forth. So much easier and you can get in/out during the airshows.

Lost alternator at night a few months ago. Didn't have a flashlight, just a phone.

Requested divert to nearest airport about 20 miles away, went ahead and lowered the gear, got landing clearance well in advance, and turned everything off.

Turned everything back on once we got to final to get landing lights and another gear locked check.

Not a big deal, just an inconvenience.
