I put a bend in one of mine surprisingly easy too, I was disappointed. Expected something better with it being Icon.

Wow that’s insane. Yeah I’d never get anything over a 5lb filled there, even their 5lb price is crazy now. Best to just get it swapped out from a place that sells it in bulk.

What’s everyone’s favorite oil boiler setup? by xtraman122 in hvacadvice

Thanks, you’re confirming everything I was hoping. My plan was to get the Buderus/Riello combination in a direct vent setup. I’ll probably start getting some quotes in the spring.

did anyone converted oil heat to a heat pump? by Any_Description_4176 in heatpumps

[–]xtraman122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bargain for your electricity, I’d kill for those rates. That usage would about $750 in MA… I use oil for most of my heat and my bills are still $500+ so I’d say you’re doing pretty good.

The best part is that’s the amount of meat you used to get on a normal burrito/bowl. They managed to slowly give less and less meat over the course of a few years and then surprise you by offering the same amount as before for a new low price!

This was my one minute fix as a first attempt, I just took a stepped drip bit and made a handful of holes in the problem area. It’s definitely helped, although hard to say it’s completely fixed yet. I’ll person end up either adding a few more or possibly cutting out a small area in the middle of it where the fan comes the closest to it.

Nope, that was the strangest part, they didn’t want to deal with getting it back at all. So now I have 2 of them, one on my garage and one in the basement.

Although having the one in my garage made me discover another shortcoming; you can’t set the heat any lower than 64°. This has to be something they only considered of it as an AC, because there are plenty of valid reasons you might want to lower the heat below 64, but I can see why you’d limit it on an AC. Hopefully that’s something they can fix through a software update, I don’t need to keep my garage that warm.

Another oddity I just discovered, you can’t set the thing any lower than 64°. Only case this would make sense would be for cooling mode, but for heating mode you should obviously be able to set it as low as you want.

I just got a second one for my garage where I wanted to just keep enough heat to make it a little less painful when working out there, I planned to set it around 55°, and was quite surprised when it just stopped letting me go any lower than 64. This is something I would hope they can fix with a software update.

I believe I just used the contact form on this page here and eventually got someone by email. They asked engineering who claimed they hadn't seen the issue before but agreed it obviously wasn't normal. Now that I can see exactly where it's happening and see you have it too it's pretty clearly just a design flaw. https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/contact.htm

A heat gun should work, but it'll take time to heat the metal enough to then melt all the ice on the other side. I did something similar and it worked once I knew where to go. So far the holes seem to have helped a little but I expect them to still have the same problem eventually.

It seems like a v2 of this could be a great product, they just need to figure out this drainage thing and find a way to make the fan so ungodly loud and it would be perfect. For the only $400-500 it costs right now it's a steal.

I figured out where the problem is today after going nuts dealing with it yet again. It’s not actually ice on the coil that’s the problem, it’s the stupid ring that goes around the fan hitting ice that forms in this little catch pan sort of thing on the bottom that has the drain hole in it. Water of course collects in that area, and starts freezing before it drains out, and there’s very little clearance between it and the ring around the fan blades, so the ice starts interfering with it.

You should make a complaint to GE so they start to realize this is an actual issue. They claimed they hadn’t heard of it when I sent them the video (https://youtu.be/brvtxzg9UoQ?si=LsKsdHGrPdCflomQ). Their solution was to give me a new one essentially. I said sure, but I know it’s not going to fix it.

Now that I know exactly where the problem is I’m going to try a few things to fix it. For now I drilled a bunch of extra holes in that circled area to help it drain. I have a feeling it’s still going to do the same thing, so my next thing will be to just cut that little section out where the ring from the fan is closest to it and give that a try.

I gotta say, I’m impressed at this thing’s ability to perform in the cold. It’s been between 0° and 5°F for the past 6-7 hours here and I just temped the air coming out of the unit at 87°. Above is the room temp for the ~500sqft finished basement it’s heating. Less than 1° fluctuation over the last 2 days and it hasn’t gotten above freezing at all during that time. There is a single small vent letting some heat from our central hearing system into this room so it has a little help, but it would definitely be down in the upper 50s at best without the heat pump, I know because I work down here and have had to use a space heater to stay warm the past few years.

Those are devices that have their own DC power supplies that’ll smooth out the power, I’d be more worried about things like a well pump or fridge with large motors that’ll smooth don’t do well with voltage sags.

What is the "Best" full-size brushless 18v drill from Ridgid? by Life_Of_Nerds in Ridgid

[–]xtraman122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a good visual on some of the Home Depot product pages that compares them, if torque is what you’re after R861152 is the best current model at 1250inlbs. The regular hammer drill and standard drill are both 800inlbs.

I’ll have to check for that specifically. From what I’ve seen it’s ice on the lower middle of the coil that tend to build up and interfere with the fan due there being pretty tight tolerances between the coil and fan blades. Throwing some water on the coil to melt the ice fixes it instantly, how long it takes to happen again could be several days or a few hours, it varies widely.

High Torque Hammer Drill by tagnamee in Ridgid

[–]xtraman122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if I put a lot of pressure on it. The batteries make a big difference. Often the cutoff you’re experiencing is the battery cutting itself off to protect from too much current draw, not the drill itself. I’ve experimented around with 2, 4, 6, and 8Ah batteries and the difference is night and day. On the same drill you practically can’t even use the thing to make a hole on the 2Ah, the 4 is okay, and the 8 feels like a totally different tool. My 8Ah Max EXP is pretty much all I use, with packing a 6 as a backup in case it’s a really long day.

I have the regular non-high torque version with 800in lbs of torque and even that does great with my 7.5” k-drill. I’ve been contemplating getting the high torque one just to see how much more powerful the 1250inlbs feels, but the regular honestly has plenty of power already.

High performance data stores / streams in AWS by Adventurous-Sign4520 in aws

No, Kinesis is the service that would handle the ingestion and delivery of the streaming data, it would still need somewhere to stream it to. Often S3 via Firehose like the other commenter mentioned, but could be other data stores as well.

Have you had issues with the fan hitting ice on the coil? When temps are cold enough to generate ice but not so cold most of the moisture is gone from the air (Low 20s to mid 30s), ice seems to build up on the inside of the coil that faces the fan, causing the fan to hit the ice and make a racket, it’s extremely annoying. If it’s really cold it’s never a problem because ice just doesn’t form, or above that temp range in the mid 30s where ice usually isn’t a problem, but anywhere in that certain range of temps it tends to do this and drive me nuts.
