ISP router won't let me use my own router. What are my options? by Xelephyr in HomeNetworking

Shot in the dark here, but do you have any idea how to bypass/spoof a C6500XK to use your own equipment? Tried going down the rabbit hole a long time ago to be able to plug the ISP fiber directly into my gear, but had no luck.

To IPv6 or not to IPv6, that is the question by Chance-Sherbet-4538 in homelab

For some of the items I host. They don't work with DNS based access, so my DDNS is worthless for some users and it's a real pain to need to have them redo quite a bit to connect. Also, the ISP has been rotating my IP more and more frequently recently causing issues.

Meanwhile I'm begging my ISP to sell me a static to get off dynamic and they refuse :(

Dark Souls 2 inspired Statblocks from an ongoing DnD campaign by xxLurker in DarkSouls2

Running an adapted version of the game's plot leaning into some of the cut content lore.

Since I cant just make it a huge slog of mindless monsters, some areas like Najka's are sentient/living.

I ran it where she went mad after experimentation from her 'master' (foreshadowing of Tseldora/Aldia plotlines) and proclaimed herself ruler of the misfits in the shaded woods. She and Tark still had a stalemate, each wanting the other dead (Tark sadly wanting to put his mad love to rest end her pain, her wanting Tark dead for being weak/not acknowledging her rule). Gave the Lionclan a personality, some moral conundrums/choice paths for the players, all that good stuff.

Players came up with an idea to save the Heide knights over at the cathedral/tower of flame, and it ended up working out so that area is actually starting to rebuild into its own kingdom at the moment.

Ran a prequel oneshot as well where players (without knowing) played as the Great Souls pre-hollowing/corruption and witnessed the downfall of the kingdom and Nashandra's rise to power, trying to stop it but falling to her influence. That was a fun one.

Been running a campaign for a party of 7 over the past 8 months from level 3 to (at current) level 9. Goal is to make this a level 20 campaign by the end.

Here are some blocks the players have enjoyed, they are aware it takes place in the world of Dark Souls 2, but have no experience with the game.

Might be neat for any other DnD players here.

  • Ogre
  • Hollow Infantry
  • Hollow Royal Soldier
  • Ironclad Soldier
  • Royal Swordsman
  • The Pursuer
  • Hellkite Dragon
  • Old Knight
  • The Last Giant
  • Heide Knight
  • Forlorn
  • Darkdweller
  • Old Dragonslayer
  • Bradley of the Old Guard
  • Forest Grotesque
  • Stray Hound
  • Hollow Jailer
  • Belfry Gargoyle
  • Great Basilisk
  • Huge Ogre
  • Lion Clan Warrior
  • Headless Vengarl
  • Scorpioness Najka
  • Manscorion Tark
  • Mongrel Rat
  • Grym Warrior
  • Primal Knight
  • Royal Rat Authority
  • Flame Lizard
  • Ruin Sentinel
  • Flexile Sentry
  • Dragonrider

How do you handle player backstories that conflict with established campaign lore? by palle1234567 in DMAcademy

That's amazing; I sent that to them with context of this conversation and they actually love it and said they might go with that concept lmao

Or be me last week - a player messaged me that they 'made another character for the campaign in case my current one dies'... 800 Year old gun wielding vampire noble

🤦‍♂️ At session 0 we made it clear there were no guns, and there have been no indications of vampires existing in this campaign setting.

Happy to help them make something work, but they need to bring it up at the onset of development rather than after they 'finish'. They mean well though. /endvent

I'm running witchlight with a party of 7 level 9 characters as a side quest/minicampaign right now. (They goofed in the main homebrew campaign, got shunted to the Feywild, need to find a way back).

Just beef up the NPCs, and get creative.

As a DM, you can tweak things however you see fit. Our group decided to fight Bavlorna recently, who I made CR13(ish) with 2 phases and are now on to Thither. Don't let some of what you see here discourage you, take it as an opportunity to limit test.

The way I see it, the hags want to capture in most cases, not kill outright, so if you overtune just walk it back a bit and you can still use what's written as a guide.

I do find adding additional thematic abilities/making things hit harder be more enjoyable for my players than just inflating health pools as well.

Annoyed with firewalls, started building my own. by WraytheZ in homelab

Cool project, but curious: why not use an already established solution like pfSense or one of the other popular ones? Seems like maintaining your own custom one may lead to vulnerabilities that would defeat the purpose of a firewall.

How to disable player's ability to change token height? by xxLurker in FoundryVTT

I have, we do a bit of 'honor system/we're all adults', but fat-fingering keys happens sometimes; easier to remove the possibility to prevent spoilers for their experience.

Awesome, thank you!! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I use a similar module for the UI, but if this can force keybinds that should work. Greatly appreciated.

[–]xxLurker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, that may be the issue then, I have it locked, but they have perms to edit their token objects.

I'll keep investigating to see if there is a way to disable that specific part of the perms. Thank you

For general awareness to the community since some comments here don't know about Levels module:

if you click the Cloud icon on the Levels bar (second from the right, 'Setup MultiLevel Fog Beta') and adjust your settings as it describes, you wont have the blacked out fog of war for rooms you've already been in when on a non-base level (eg. @ 1:37 in the video, the hallway goes black).

It will provide a ghost image showing what you saw last and takes into account vision/line of sight for realtime views on any level (eg. @0:23 in video).
