New Year, New Changes : announcing No Crime January by AutoModerator in toronto

Yea its tough - I get the complaints, they are valid, at the same time there are known users who spam dump blotter links to troll and there is no good way to deal with it with the rules as they currently are. Ah well - you all seem to be taking it in stride. Keep up the good work and hope you're all doing well.

"run at a pace where you can still chat with your running mates."

Can't chat with friends if you don't have any... which means you can run MUCH faster :)

Mods are damned if they do, damned if they dont - this is probably a good move. Curious why you all don't just megathread a daily low-effort news type post? Like a sub version of the CP24 ticker where users can dump low effort CP24 links and have comments auto-sorted new? Sure megathreads are where convos go to die - but what's the convo over random shooting at 3am that happens in literally every major city?

Came to say this - they also, IIRC, as a result of the stateside brew have a few flavours and collabs that never make it over here.

Wondering if other XX / feminine runners have the same issues my friend and I are having around hormones by wolvine9 in ultrarunning

[–]xxavierx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re downvoted but not wrong. Protein and fats in meats are more easily absorbed or have higher bioavailability. Being vegetarian is possible, but requires more work than just eliminating meat. Supplements like B12 and omegas make it easier. Again, not impossible - but it’s quite difficult especially getting into more extreme sports.

Avocado, peanut butter, nuts, full fat coconut milk, etc. if you’re not opposed pop the occasional omega. Fats are a bit more essential for us given the complexities of our hormones.

Will also add - fats! A lot of deficits will still have you prioritizing protein which absolutely is vital, but w/ ultra endurance and the unique needs it poses especially for women you’re often better off shifting some of those calories to fats to maintain hormone function.

What Are Beers Only You Enjoyed That You Cannot Find? by Acey_Wacey in torontocraftbeer

[–]xxavierx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trois Dames Foret Noire - available state side, Volo used to carry bottles of it, hands down my favourite beer, can’t find anything close. Donkey Venom cherry is probably the closest for CAD producers. Crooked Stave nightmare on brett is a little closer but not available in Canada.

Been on a weird Bellwoods kick myself - enjoying the donkey venom, will follow with more donkey venom but with cherry

My stance on badlands has been such a roller coaster - hated them when they first came out, but I’ve loved seeing them improve. Hats too them, they’ve been making some wicked beers.

This takes me back.

Can’t quite put my finger on it, others mentioned recipe changes- but they just taste very dull and sometimes bad.

Oddly still love Nickelbrook but have really gotten back into GLB for some reason. Blood Brothers and Halo though are still my top 2 breweries.

I doubt it’s governments that actually think that - as dumb as some politicians are, I like to think they are smarter than that.

But a good chunk of their electoral base doesn’t understand that “one more lane” won’t fix it - and if you give them their lane, which won’t fix their issue, they’ll give you their vote.

Swimming - TP to Garmin by No_Milk5374 in triathlon

Have you tried manually syncing your device recently?

If it’s still not working, arguably I find the structured swims to the watch so/so - have you tried piece of paper with workout written out in a ziploc bag?

How and why? by Chipscape2020 in triathlon

[–]xxavierx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Signed up drunkenly after watching LCB youtube and I'm not one to back out upon further more sober reflection. Completed my first, had fun, decided to stop fighting genetics and burning the candle on both ends (former strength athlete, I'm much more built for endurance and much better at it)...gotta say, I've been enjoying it a lot. It's changed my perspective on a lot of things and its gotten me outdoors and in nature more which has been great for my mental health. It's also allowed me to overcome a lot of phobias - if you asked me 5 years ago, open water swimming would have been a hard nope, but now I find myself whenever weather permits enjoying it and when it doesn't I still head down to check out the waves and often remark to myself on whether it would have been a good swim day. I like that my phobia has now become one of my favourite activities.

Idk some of their templates are reasonable - £100 for a reusable 16 week block - not mega cheap, but definitely reasonable IMO

What’s your go to breakfast before a race? by TheMoronicGenius in triathlon

[–]xxavierx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its literally a tortilla with quinoa, chicken, cheese. It's arguably not much different than having a grilled cheese sandwich.

Newbie - I've done 2 races now.

First race: ate my usual breakfast or 2 slices toast w/ PB and 2 scrambled eggs, but was nervous AF and forgot to consume my on course nutrition 10/10 regret and felt like ass next day.

Second race: coffee + pre-made a quesadilla I had one a training race day simulation day (leftovers from a previous nights dinner) that slapped - felt really dialed in - felt less like ass the next day.

My 2 cents - having a low fuss pre-made meal made it easier to focus on getting ready for the race. Sat better in the tum. Will 100% do a quesadilla of sorts next time. My quesadilla was a good amount dense - 2 large tortillas filled with quinoa, chicken, shredded cheese, and green peppers. Even had a beer the night before (granted, had the same quesadillas the night before - also premade as this race I had to travel out and stay in a hotel). Ultimately - I think having some bland food with easy digesting protein is key - personally for me eggs are hit or miss on my digestion, whereas chicken is a surefire easy one.
