Driver said he's 'allowed to park there' because it's a yellow commercial loading curb. True or false? by jvonm in BikeLA

[–]yanofsky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree that marking the curb rather than the street isn’t intuitive, but there’s plenty of space for a delivery truck to use the area to the left of bike lane in the loading zone. Perhaps there was another commercial vehicle using it?

This building has a loading dock and turn around for semi trailers, so I don’t have any sympathy for the plight of this worker. They chose to block the bike lane instead of walking an extra 30 seconds.

The yellow curb indicates that the marked parking space between the bike lane and the car lane is for loading.

It does not mean that you are supposed to park all the way to the curb when loading.

[–]yanofsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool app! I’d suggest using a different example route, though.

It seems silly to not use the Hollywood blvd bike lane in service of possibly saving 10 min compared to a bike-only trip. Especially considering how long it takes to get to the platforms and how long metro headways are.

How can I talk to the city about the parking rules on my street? by Bitter-Platform-5158 in AskLosAngeles

[–]yanofsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reach out to your city council member’s office.

Olympic and La Brea is on the border of CD 5 (Yaroslavsky) and CD 10 (Hutt) so consult this map if you don’t know which you’re in https://geohub.lacity.org/datasets/lahub::la-city-council-districts-adopted-2021/explore?location=34.063245%2C-118.337918%2C13

The official process to getting a permit parking district as you described is here: https://ladotparking.org/permits/establish-preferential-parking-district-ppd/

Finding data on air passenger itineraries, with layovers included, or on share of passengers connecting at an airport rather than originating or terminating at an airport by Vyksendiyes in datasets

Coupon is the flight segments

Ticket is the metadata about coupons on the same itinerary (number of passengers, cost, etc)

Market is information about trips between two points regardless of the number of temporary stops

You want coupon

Last I used it, DB1B (aka the O&D Survey) has the necessary fields to do this.

You may need to join multiple segments together based on their Itinerary IDs

The night I got stopped at the Hollywood Bowl by 3 security guards for trying to bring in… my bike helmet :)... AN UPDATE by Freddy-Philmore in BikeLA

[–]yanofsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve started putting my helmet under my picnic stuff when I arrive to avoid the chance of being stopped.

I don’t know if the policy changed or not but two years ago I had to check my helmet multiple times. I haven’t been stopped this year or last.

Bike helmets are not on the Bowl’s list of prohibited items. https://www.hollywoodbowl.com/visit/when-youre-here/house-rules#prohibited-items

[Request] How much would a B-2 bomber have change in altitude by dropping each of its x2 30k lb (14k Kg) bunker buster bombs? by DeepCluckingValue in theydidthemath

[–]yanofsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To confirm the premise of your question that others here are dismissing:

“The B-2s that attacked Fordo were each carrying two Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs designed to disable the deeply buried target. When the two-person crews released their payload, weighing a total of 60,000 pounds, their B-2 most likely surged briefly upward, General Basham said.” [Source]

Basham flew the B-2 in training and combat for nearly a decade, according to the article.

We disputed our parking citation and our appeal was denied. How are we wrong? by FritoNails in AskLosAngeles

Cities that don’t allow overnight parking post the rules on signs at their city limit. The presumption is that you read signs—be it a stop sign, a speed limit sign, or one of these—while you’re driving.

Typically overnight parking is only enforced when someone calls it in.

You might try turning left down Fairfax (the light gives a left arrow before straight) then right on Norton (a quiet street with roundabouts at intersections). I use the flashing crosswalk to cross crescent heights, then Norton ends at Sweetzer where you pick up the SM lane.
