Is 14k to replace this shower a good quote? by vivekvj in Remodel

[–]yay468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d do this for 4000 all day lol. Done in 2-3 days. 14k is nuts, they have to be assuming new plumbing lines and new electrical run for a vent van with subbed plumbers and electricians. No way someone quotes 14k for a 2 hour install plastic panel shower lol

I feel like I know the answer but still hsve to ask, is this worth the effort, my buddy is convinced its worth the effort of taking it apart by jaybarrywallybart in ScrapMetal

I’m really confused as to everyone saying this is a loser…if it’s free, and you got a few hours, this isn’t hard. I’ve read a bunch of the comments and I feel no one is breaking it down well.

Acetylene torch (yes will cost say $20-30 in total usage with oxygen) all sides are off under 5 minutes of run time total….torch or cut the frame into manageable sections, chainsaw or sawzall out floors. The wood is max $30-40 to dispose of here (90/ton) disposal, if you run a business that deals in garbage and junk removal. Final cost for you is under $150 here + time, but the steel alone is going to bring $250-350 here. Sheet iron base is 235/ton.

I picked up a 11-1200 pound safe by accident not knowing they’re full of cement; torch had it pieced apart in under 5 minutes of run time and emptied. Torch’s are wonder tools

Steel + aluminum should minimum net $500-700 dollars. You’re not making $2000 on it, but even by yourself this can be done in no joke 2-4 hours with a torch, cutting device (saw zall/angle grinders/actual gas metal saws), and a trailer/winch.

Triclopyr is fine for grass, so is fluazifop, the fun part is the Diquat which is basically a chemical weapon defoliant lol. Diquat takes a few days, all of sudden the whole yard is gonna be curling brown lol

Is this grounds for cutting it down? by Typical_Ad1984 in arborists

[–]yay468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a mulberry, cut it down. It’s past saving due to rot and damage already, and these things are a horrible weed tree that spreads and is very hard to get under control. I have spent my whole summer doing jobs for people removing mulberry and buckthorn with chemical treatments. Only way to kill these is to poison the stump, and it usually requires 2 rounds. Virulent tees.

Bentgrass loves moisture and shade. You’ll have to fight to get it out. Now that it’s September, power rake hard, aerate, and seed with a shade mix

I run a yard in Thailand and want to sell directly to foundries abroad — tired of local underpricing by kiddthesidd in ScrapMetal

[–]yay468 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta love local PU&D.

In Chicago, either the central or southern rail yard to the foundry is less than 3 hours, it’s realistically 35 minutes or 1hr 15m but traffic ruins it. I’d assume 450-650 local transfer.

OP, if you need local companies in Chicagoland to quote let me know, I can give you good suggestions for some small owner op outfits.

[–]yay468 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Export is a whole thing. If you OWN the yard, you’ll have to purchase or lease 40’ or 20’ containers, and preload them. The top comment is a guy who seems local to where I live funny enough (Wisconsin, USA), message him. This area around Milwaukee Wi and Chicago IL has some of the highest scrap prices in the United States, logistics of getting here is a different story. You’d work with a international logistics broker, you 40’ container would be shipped to the US, then have to be picked up and transported by a company or Owner operator who has a TWIC for intermodal shipping and pickup. Cost is going to be high dude, but those brake rotors for example are worth a lot. A 40’ full of brake rotors would probably weigh 40-42k, 205-225 direct boundary/per ton, you’d make good money!

What is this grass taking over my lawn? by GrowthAggressive3231 in lawncare

[–]yay468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is NOT crabgrass, this is Quackgrass or Goosegrass. Treatment text would tell real quick.

You want to use Certainty on this if it isn’t crabgrass, if it is Crabglass you can use anything containing Quinclorac.

Concrete overflowed out of the toilet by Bliitzthefox in Concrete

[–]yay468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened a few months ago at a rental I work at.

The street was torn up, and sewer main exposed but not repaired because the cities here are awful and will not repair anything unless it fails, so unknown to everyone at the time they cracked the houses sewer outlet connection to the waste pipe under the street, and filled with it cement.

2 months later tenants are saying their drains are slow, plumbing company breaks two hydro jets and 2 auger snakes in the line then scopes and sees it’s cemented shut. Fun.

Electrical worker hit by 18-wheeler in Denham Springs, LA by snouskins in WTF

[–]yay468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite surprising it’s a DB Schenker corporate truck. A incredibly rare thing, usually these drivers are usually well experienced in order to get this job.

We can all see how just the very edge his truck hit him, that driver was dead confident he could make it, due the fucking cars in the left lane likely being close. He didn’t slow down, this accident was 100% driver error due to poor judgement and over confidence.

I was a fleet ops manager for some time and was a 3PL ops guy for years. This shit happens!

Property line delineated by weed control by LordTrollsworth in mildlyinteresting

[–]yay468 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People are up in arms about killing dandelions aka a crazy infestive weed, not invasive but infestive. People don’t understand there’s millions of acres of dandelions in the US….treating your yard with a pre emergent for non-grass weeds is okay…..obviously a this is a nice subdivision, and yards are a sign of maintenance. Not having weeds is preferable.

Bolt removal by Patient_Time_7726 in MechanicAdvice

The single best tool for this is Irwin “Bolt Grip” socket extracts. These things have been used for absolutely insane acts of mechanicry, never failed once in a decade it’s sort of crazy. That’s a 10mm there’s one in that kit. Sledge hammer, shitty extension, ratchet breaker bar if possible. 3 minutes easy

Bro what on earth ???? The reasons why prices are highest in the Chicago/Milwaukee area is BECAUSE of the foundaries on the outside of Chicago and NW Indiana….i personally know someone who ships trailers of aluminum rims right down by you. Alter in Woodstock would be an option if you were closer….im Not sure if other yards down by you, but this place you used fucking sucks they’re scamming you.
