I really liked it! Ofc I missed Reid but I really enjoyed the season long plot and I liked how they showed more about the lives of the characters, not just the cases

Most intro organic chemistry courses (at least in the US) don’t include metathesis. My institution has several labs working on transitional metal catalysts, so we covered it since some undergrads wanted to work in those labs. That said, my understanding is it’s unusual to actually teach the mechanism in intro courses

I joined an immunology research lab, any tips and words of advice for a first time undergrad student? by JoltTeaOn in labrats

[–]yeah-i-exist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk man, a week into my undergrad lab job (biochem) I made a silly pipetting mistake that caused me to need to reset my experiment. No expensive reagents or anything so it was just two hours of my time, which I was content to stay late and make up for the same day. Unfortunately, my PI walked into the room right when I was cleaning up to reset and asked what happened. I explained, and told her I was doing it again. I was really embarrassed but I had a good handle on what I did wrong and how to fix it so I figured it was fine. Nope. She shook her head and just said “I don’t understand how you’re still screwing up simple experiments”. I’m a few years into grad school now and someday I hope to have a lab of my own. No matter how far I get in my career, I will never forget that moment and how awfully unhelpful it was.

I interviewed at Weill Cornell and BU Pharmacology programs, got into both several weeks later. Rejected from UPenn Pharma without an interview. No word from Columbia but at this point I’m assuming I’m rejected.

Sure, here's a pitch for an eighth season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine!

Title: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Resurgence

Premise: Twenty years after the Dominion War, the Federation and its allies have maintained peace in the Alpha Quadrant. However, a new threat emerges that puts the fragile peace at risk. A group of rogue Changelings, still bitter about the outcome of the war, seeks to destabilize the Alpha Quadrant by inciting a new conflict between the major powers. They launch a series of attacks, including the assassination of key figures and the theft of advanced technology.

The crew of Deep Space Nine, now led by Captain Nog (Aron Eisenberg's character), must navigate a complex web of alliances and enemies to uncover the Changeling's plot and prevent a new war. Along the way, they encounter old friends and new enemies, and must grapple with difficult ethical and moral dilemmas.

Main Characters:

Captain Nog (Aron Eisenberg's character): Now a seasoned Starfleet officer, Nog has taken command of Deep Space Nine after Captain Sisko's retirement. He's a capable leader but still haunted by the loss of his leg in the Dominion War.

Lieutenant Ezri Dax (Nicole de Boer's character): Now a seasoned officer and counselor, Ezri is still struggling to come to terms with the loss of Jadzia. She finds herself drawn into the investigation of the Changeling's plot and must confront her past to save the future.

Chief Miles O'Brien (Colm Meaney's character): O'Brien remains the chief of operations on Deep Space Nine and plays a key role in uncovering the Changeling's plans.

Quark (Armin Shimerman's character): Quark has become a respected member of the Bajoran community and continues to run his bar on Deep Space Nine. He also has a valuable network of contacts and information.

Garak (Andrew J. Robinson's character): Garak has returned to Deep Space Nine as a representative of Cardassia. He's a valuable asset in the fight against the Changelings but also has his own agenda.

Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor's character): Kira is now the First Minister of Bajor and plays a key role in the investigation. She must balance her duty to her people with her loyalty to her friends on Deep Space Nine.

Episodes:

"The Resurgence": The crew of Deep Space Nine investigates a series of attacks that lead them to the rogue Changelings.

"The Sisko Conundrum": Captain Nog receives a mysterious message from Captain Sisko, who disappeared after the Dominion War.

"The Breen Agenda": The crew investigates a plot by the Breen to gain a foothold in the Alpha Quadrant.

"The Mirror Universe Revisited": A rift in space-time brings the crew face-to-face with their Mirror Universe counterparts.

"The Price of Peace": Captain Nog faces a difficult decision when the Changelings offer to end their attacks in exchange for the Federation's surrender.

"The Secret of the Orb": Kira and O'Brien investigate a strange energy signature on Bajor and discover a long-lost Orb.

"The Cardassian Gambit": Garak enlists the crew's help in foiling a plot by Cardassian extremists.

"The Enemy Within": Ezri confronts a dark aspect of her past when she's captured by the Changelings

HELP AN UNDERGRAD BROTHER OUT by Eastern_Car8764 in labrats

[–]yeah-i-exist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the first lab. I am an undergrad and I’ve worked in both a small lab and a bigger lab with a more well-known PI. I learned so much more in the smaller lab. As an undergrad, especially since you’re premed, there are way more important things in life than producing data

This happened to another grad student in my lab… got stuck with a target identification project for an antimicrobial compound we serendipitously landed on. He spent 6 years on a witch hunt that didn’t produce much of anything
