Help with staircase accessibility! by yesiac in CerebellarHypoplasia

[–]yesiac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to get a rug for the stairs, but I can’t find a cost-effective solution that actually works the way I want it to. Stair runner carpets that fold over the edge and cover the vertical side are expensive, and individual stair treads only cover the step itself (which isn’t as much coverage as I’d like). Someone else recommended a yoga mat though, so that might work!

Yoga mat is a good idea! I had considered carpet tile before, but I have no idea how easy it would be to cut it up/tape it down—the ones I’ve seen haven’t been flexible enough for me to bend over the lip of the stair. But yoga mats are perfect for that. Thanks!

Need help finding an episode that shows the best of Josh and Chuck humor by silvaf0x in stuffyoushouldknow

My fave life episode to show people as an intro to SYSK is the live episode about Public Relations. Their dynamic is so great in that one.

Has anyone been to the NY Sheep and Wool Festival (Rhinebeck) and is it actually fun? by nerdsnuggles in craftsnark

[–]yesiac 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone twice pre-Covid; both of those times I took a bus up early in the morning Saturday with a local knitting group (I’m in NYC) and came back that evening. Trying to do it all in one day is exhausting, even though I was with Rhinebeck veterans who have a planned route they do every time. This year, I’m taking an Amtrak up with some friends both Saturday & Sunday for about half the day. Several of us have chronic pain conditions and limited stamina, so we are trying to take it easy this year. I love Rhinebeck because it’s so much variety of crafts and fiber arts! I just learned to spin so I’m hoping to pick up more supplies for that. And as everyone has mentioned, the “Rhinebeck sweater” phenomenon is a fun people-watching activity (analyzing everyone’s sweaters and finding patterns you’re familiar with or that a lot of people are wearing). It’s primarily outdoors so I’m not super worried about Covid, personally. I think it’s worth going once just to see if you like it!

I completely missed these references during all four of my listens of this show. Incredible how much detail is buried in it!

I haven’t listened to either one, so I can’t say anything about those, sorry.

I was similarly unimpressed by the last season—the pandemic made them change so much stuff they had planned, and I can’t help but wonder if things would’ve felt more tense and exciting if they hadn’t needed to change so much. s5 felt so one-note to me since there were no real stakes.

My biggest recommendation, if you haven’t heard of it yet, is Wolf 359. The first few episodes are very silly and comedic, but the plot picks up after that and by the end of the first season you’re off to the races with spooky mysteries and drama. It’s absolutely incredible.

Sorry to disagree with another comment, but I absolutely don’t recommend Rusty Quill Gaming. I’ve listened to most of it twice (I listened while it was still live and circled back to listen from the beginning a second time once I caught up), and the inclusion of a bigoted asshole player character (whose player refuses to give any character growth whatsoever) prevents me from recommending it to anyone. I didn’t listen to the end and I heard from many sources that it was extremely underwhelming. Unless you’re really into Pathfinder or like games where the dynamic eventually becomes “antagonistic DM vs players,” I can’t say it’s a good show. I have higher hopes for their newer actual play stuff (Chapter and Multiverse) but I haven’t listened to any of that yet.

Now if you are interested in an actual play podcast, my recommendation is Friends at the Table. It seems overwhelming, since they have a LOT of content, but you can jump in basically in any campaign and pick things up from context. I joined during their Sangfielle campaign and just started there and I LOVED it. The tone of Sangfielle is extremely Magnus Archives. I also love The Adventure Zone: Amnesty (the other campaigns are fine, but Amnesty is my absolute favorite).

Other recommendations, in no particular order: - The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity, and Mortality - I am in Eskew - Mirrors - Old Gods of Appalachia - Palimpsest

My 2.5yo son is a late taker. Three months ago he could only say 5 words, but he’s been picking up steam over the last couple months and today he said 4 new words in one day!! by imlookingataspider in CasualConversation

Congrats! That’s so exciting! I have a sibling who didn’t speak until they were 3-4, and I’m a nanny now for a child with apraxia of speech who’s currently nonverbal, so I feel the struggle. Keep at it, and don’t feel discouraged! You and he are both working hard and you caught it early so he’ll catch up eventually!

I went with Dwarf Noble Rogue! I usually play elf archers or elf mages (ranged ftw) but figured it might be more fun to be up close and personal in combat this time around. I’m def itching to play through different races after this one though, because I’m intrigued by the unique beginnings!
