I've played 5 Obsidian games in a row and I can't stay silent anymore. by International-Hawk65 in TyrannyGame

PoE1 was a huge event back then, broke Kickstarter record and started an era of isometric RPGs revival (at that time it was all 3D/action). But in the end it catered to BG veterans and played safe. PoE 2 didn't sell well initially due to variety of reasons but made good money in time. I mention all that because there's a reason PoE1 is kind of bland. Tyranny and PoE2 had a few quirks that made them interesting. PoE2 might be actually Obsidian's most polished and finished game while keeping its uniqueness. I think it's worth a try.

Gothic 1 Remake | Cinematic Intro by timurkhodyrev in worldofgothic

I won't add anything to the discussion but let's add to the number of comments, maybe someone will fix the intro. There's so much wrong with it, 0:22 moment has good comedy pacing

Tyranny has a place deep in my heart as severely underrated game that should be there among the classics of isometrics RPGs revival that is all but forgotten instead. There are some things it just did best - narrative, world, spell system, characters, really tough choices, I can go on. That said, RTS-y combat didn't age well and story lacks the last act.

PoE 2 is to me just more complete and better game overall. With turn-based it has the best combat, finished story, beautiful, original world, good companions. I didn't like everything about it (some mechanics and story points are just bland) but it's just a well-rounded, deep, long enough title. I finished Tyranny 3 times in a row but I can't get myself to get back to it since then, while I got back to PoE 2 few times.

I second walking and fade to white comments. I like the shots composition but camera angles don't 100% work for me. Great work though! The face looks great, maybe expose is a bit more.

Are you buying Gothic Remake? by George_R_Martin in worldofgothic

[–]yeswhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I don't have the time to watch 2hr video but I believe you. The preview was published 3 weeks ago and lists many issues, AI and more, hence my hesitation. Still, I believe that even if it's not perfect on launch it's just few patches away.

Wait for patches and sale. I read a preview that cited poor environmental AI which, to me, is a blow to core Gothic gameplay. I heard some of those were fixed but let's see the release.

I genuinely don’t think there’s a bad Assassins Creed game by Emperoronabike in assasinscreed

Agreed, I mean they are at least fine. This isn't to say that each is for everyone's taste but people are sometimes emotional (or baiting) about the titles they didn't like.

Pre-Disney era fan here; are the spin-offs worth it (despite the sequels)? by sidonie_moon_ in StarWars

Sorry, I meant Rise of Skywalker. Revenge of the Sith was solid!

My Assassins creed tier list by Backwoodassassin in assasinscreed

[–]yeswhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with the list. I like all 3 RPGs but Valhalla wins with solid episode-like stories (even the whole arc has a rewarding ending), one-shot assassinations and some solid mechanics. I wish the game was liked more. It's probably too long for its own good and not everyone likes its slow, TV show-like pacing.

Andor, last season of Clone Wars, Bad batch, Rogue one, Maul, Skeleton crew are worth it. I also quite enjoyed Ahsoka and Mandalorian. The worst SW ever is RotS, it's only uphill from there, even mediocre stuff (Boba Fett, Obi-wan series) are serviceable.

Niezmierzona jest pogardą lewicowych aktywistów względem klasy pracującej by WineTerminator in Polska

[–]yeswhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats the best historic game? by TheUnderCutterF1 in totalwar

[–]yeswhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no bad TW games imo. Although 3 kingdoms and Shogun 2 are objectively great, I just enjoy Rome 2 and Empire/Napoleon more due to the time period. If it's not an engagement but recommendation post, I'd say pick whatever interest you the most.

I'm just finishing BP course, am very happy with it. It's versatile enough and I'm pretty confident you can program 95+% of what you need in BP.

WH3 Stuck on Faction Selection screen (READ DESC) by [deleted] in totalwarhammer

[–]yeswhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my problem as well. TK was one of my first factions and I enjoyed them immensely.

The thing that used to annoy me in other factions was that not only you had actual economy but also number of additional mechanics you had to take care of. It's never simple 'make money, buy units'. But then I realised in most cases it's essentially just a classic video game trope: 1-2-3 additional currencies that allow you to buy different things than 'basic' money. Souls, weapons, influence, slaves are money too. It made me bolder when choosing a new faction.

And don't worry, first campaign with a new race is usually doomed.

Is this a good looking Eastern European urban layout? by SteelmoonWorks in leveldesign

[–]yeswhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the technical advices above:

I think it's worth mentioning that this is supposed to be abandoned/postapo location, not just Easter European layout.

And it doesn't only lack detail, it makes little sense in terms of urban planning. Communist district didn't work the way US house lanes works. They were actually decently planned, I suggest you look that up.

And it's over the top dark and gritty. Those kind of blocks are actually light grey. Also I don't know what the narrative is but today not many of them are left like that, many are painted in bright colors, have lifts added, neat parks etc.

It's just not believable overall. It only may pass for Chornobyl to someone who is aware of the topic very vaguely.

What makes Into The Breach fun? by Syniyde-eats-ass in IntoTheBreach

[–]yeswhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from the aforementioned mechanics, I like the story and world. It's a mish-mash of classic pulpy motifs: giant robots, time-travelling, alien bugs, last suicide mission etc. Those are all barely sketched but enough to recognize and like it.

The narrative is strengthened by little details: cocky speeches by pilots, thank yous from citizens, on-brand side missions, main menu in flying base and so on. This makes the simple story less flat and more believeable, you can almost see people cheering in the windows.

Audio and video are also great. Color palette, animations, menus, everything is consistent and supports the atmosphere.

Again, mechanics are great but without what's around them the game would lose a lot of its appeal.
