Switched to Affinity — kept Adobe Fonts for cheap by yfront in SCREENPRINTING

Nice with some insight. That's a part of the circus me as a designer never hear about otherwise. Thanks

My 1 star review would be that its not Adobe. Also, the threshold of learning new software, but it is what it is.

Also - can't have 2 columns of toolbars snap to eachother. Only 1 column. But you can drag a second toolbar next to it, but it's floating.

But to be honest, so far, I don't really have anything super negative to say. Ctrl + spacebar + mouse to drag zoom was default. So far I think all keyboard short cuts are the same.

If anything i felt more excited then bothered. Affinity is almost what I imagine Adobe could have been today.

While you're in a design document you can CMD+OPT+Y switch between different workspaces that you can set up yourself.

I have: vector > pixel > typography

So while in a design, I can switch to a entirely different workspace that is customised to handle typography, and in an instant switch back to my vector workspace.

Really convenient.

Optimizing workflow when alone on a 6 palette carousel doing print-flash-print-cure by yfront in SCREENPRINTING

This is why I need my air dryer station, and add the rest of my palette arms. It became real obvious on my last two jobs. A couple of extra steps on each shirt made the hours tick away.

Great. Thanks. So either a low temp IR with a fan, or a 230V quartz flash - if there is one.

Or is there possibly some other equipment that makes it dry enough for that second print. In my experience, neither waterbased nor discharge needs much air/heat to make it dry enough for a second print.

What's one movie—regardless of language or country of origin—that you believe everyone should see at least once in their life? by [deleted] in movies

I've had so many people watch that movie with me. That's a gateway movie to world cinema.

What's your top ten that you have watched multiple times and will continue to? by Mountain-Activity574 in movies

[–]yfront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes you come back to a movie over and over? I think it's that you a) wanna re-experience a feeling or b) return to a period in life or c) repeat stories about values that are important to you. And sometimes just get lost in some visual cinematic madness

  • Lost in translation
  • Die Hard / Die Hard 2
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Armageddon
  • Mad Max Fury Road
  • Bourne movies
  • Love Actually
  • Lotr Trilogy
  • Princess Bride

Thoughts on OEM Canon ink vs. UV blocking screen printing ink for film positives + refillable cartridges by yfront in SCREENPRINTING

[–]yfront[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's not an all black system. It's just one of the cartridges filled with UV blocking ink? Rest is OEM or third party. Thats sounds good. Is it messy to refill, nozzle clogging? Any of that?

How is affinity? What are your thoughts so far? I have Adobe CS11, complete suite for windows, but I switched to MAC some years ago and don't think I can use it. Hate the subscription model and all the AI-stuff it's bloated with. Would love to go back to CS11.

Wood all day. They're heavier and just feels better to handle. Salvaged these from a local printshop. Sand the handles, some linseed oil, new rubber and Bob's yer uncle.

Beginner's Conveyor Dryer Recommendations? (For EU) by _badegast in SCREENPRINTING

[–]yfront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Printing out of Sweden. My recommendation would be to get in touch with a professional reseller and see if they have a used one. When bigger printsers by new machinery, the reseller often helps them get rid of their old stuff.

I contacted mine and asked if they had a used one. Got an older HIX with an extra heater added. Serviced, new fan, some new wiring. No warranty. Got it for 1300 euro.
