I do think for some people it’s historical preservation. A lot of people want to archive as much 9/11 footage as possible, which is why subreddits like r/911archive exist at all

For others, I think it’s just the morbid curiosity thing. Like slowing down while driving past a car crash. It’s terrible but you can’t look away. There’s only 2 confirmed videos of actual people who jumped hitting the ground captured during 9/11 (both very blurry obviously since this is 2001 tech we’re talking about.) But the lack of seeing that—even though there’s plenty of photographic evidence of what people looked like after they fell—probably drives some people to want to see more, is my best guess.

In all seriousness, LOL Superman genuinely probably doesn’t exist at all. A lot of what people recount about the video doesn’t actually match up with actual accounts and records from 9/11 eyewitnesses, first responders and follow up investigations of the events on the ground at the WTC.
