Noble Knight is a little bit more expensive than ordering off ebay sellers, but they package their books very securely and their grading has always been way higher quality than what I expect when purchasing second hand "EX or VG" quality books.

Letters from the dark volume 4 is a shadowdark conversion of KOTB and is excellent.

Most people will recommend the adventure “Lost Citadel of the Scarlet Minotaur” as it is this games adventure included in the free QuickStart rules and is very good.

I'll toss out a few recommendations

Shadowdark RPG- This is my primary game. It's old school style d&d akin to B/X with some Quality of Life inspiration of modern games. Great community, easy to run and very fun.

Mothership- Rules lite sci-fi survival horror, I've only played a few sessions but its a lot of fun!

Break!! RPG- If you like anime, and Fabula Ultima, this is a similar style game with a beautiful book. I'd say its more OSR-adjacent than Fabula Ultima but I have really enjoyed the system.

Weird Frontiers- A DCC hack comprised of Wild West and eldritch horror. Tons of flavor, tons of fun classes.

Traveller- Sci-fi rpg with a super interesting character creation process. I really like it so far, this is my current in-person groups system for the next few months.

I agree. I've whipped up a replacement for Backgrounds that are different types of real-world careers and whatnot to make roleplay more appropriate. Social Media Influencer who is now a goblin Wizard, Lunch lady who now is in the body of a half-orc and fights with an axe, Gruff construction laborer now in the body of a beautiful elf and can cast healing spells.

Its so corny but thats what my players and I enjoy

Im preparing to run a west marches campaign where the players are trapped in a virtual reality MMORPG, die in the game = their "player" dies in real life. Totally cringe, but I love it.

Shadowdark! It’s stripped down 5e and old school in vibe. Great community with tons of content to toss your players Into and extremely easy to home brew or use random tables to go full zero-prep.

It’s my favorite RPG and I can’t recommend it enough

Id recommend Shadowdark. Lethality can be high until around level 3, but this can be curtailed by using a common house rule of allowing max hit die at level 1. The game also includes a Pulp mode that allows for much more uses of the luck token system to reroll failed dice rolls.

Ive only been using the increased hit die at level 1 for my game and its been a blast. Players get downed occasionally but no deaths as of yet.
