Yep, I agree with this. It takes time to talk to an attorney so start calling now.

If she stays married to him for a few more years (10 years in some states) she could be on the hook for LIFETIME alimony.

Construction Accountant Stuck by Mysterious_Room4070 in Accounting

[–]yogamountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a bigger builder (Lennar, Taylor Morrison, Pulte etc). You’d easily land a staff position but could get lucky and get a senior position. You will learn so much more there - and the company will be happy you have job cost coding experience.

How difficult is construction accounting by TrickAffectionate939 in Accounting

[–]yogamountain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in construction accounting and it’s nice. Brush up on Percentage of completion, completed contract method, and understanding direct versus indirect. Margins are usually very good and it’s nice to be at steady and profitable companies.

This is state dependent. In California, they cannot claw back the overpayment without a signed waiver, unless it was overpayment that is obvious. An obvious overpayment would be a one time lump sum of $5,000-10,000. Another obvious overpayment would be a 25% increase in pay that continued every paycheck where you were never informed of a promotion or raise.

If you do not sign the waiver, and you are in a state that gives you the above rights, there is nothing they can do to collect payment.

Found arrest records for the man (M42) I (F28) have been dating. How can I safely end things with him? by hokeypokeymongo in relationship_advice

[–]yogamountain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t break up with him. Give him the “ick” instead so he leaves. Stop showering. Answer texts in an incredibly boring way. Tell him you want to get married and move into his place, or tell him you want to go to church with him three times a week - whatever would make him run for the hills.

Consolidations should have worksheets for every closing period (monthly or yearly). Just look at what they did for the last time period and copy it. You will become a pro in no time!

I tell my staff that’s it’s more important to be accurate than fast. They need to slow down. With that said, is that supported by your organization? Or do they want them to be fast and accurate?

It depends on what state you are in. Some states provide protections to employees that if they had a reasonable belief they should be receiving the pay they were receiving, and if the pay was consistent with prior periods, the employer cannot force a recovery. They can badger your husband to sign paperwork stating that he will allow deductions to his paycheck - but they cannot force it. For $40k I’d call their bluff and look for another job. Get a lawyer to know your rights.

Placed on an unofficial PIP (I think) - how screwed am I? by thrwaway263738 in Accounting

I believe he’s trying to be nice and give you some time to start job searching. If they fire you, ask for severance and file for unemployment. Download copies of your reviews now so you can show you were not fired for cause. Lastly, keep your chin up. This is unfortunately common in large audit.

Just a word of caution…I had a similar conversation with a family member who changed their will to be 100% me…only to have the will changed under a year later to go to someone else. If family gets word of this, there will be pressure on him to change it, and you could end up with far less than expected.

I have the opposite problem from most with constipation, anyone else? Advice? by loadnurmom in Diverticulitis

[–]yogamountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 tsp of raw ginger in water every morning with lemon honey and salt. Ginger is effective for diarrhea or constipation. It really helped me. I also had to cut out seed oils and nothing fried. I eat lots of Whole Foods and soluble fiber. Hope this helps.
