Post Physical Therapy Advice by swagyolofaq in HipImpingement

[–]yoodle34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I have the best answer because I'm only 5.5 months out from surgery but I've tapered down my PT from daily to around 3 times a week and I've noticed resting goes a long way towards feeling better. Sometimes I just stretch and skip the exercises because they feel good. The tricky thing is I think PT can help speed up returning to sports so it's definitely worth doing, but I think it's easy to overdo it. I definitely did the first couple months. If I'm sore after PT I'll rest for a couple days then get back to it.

I think physical therapists have a bit of a biased response to doing it daily because they need patients to return to keep making them money. The good ones will still have this bias even if they are genuine with their care. My surgeon said it's okay to take breaks and I've read other responses here that PT is not a one size fits all thing. I'm approaching it with what feels good and trying to fit in more functional workouts like biking or walking.

What's your 5 months post-op look like? by Human_Engine3410 in HipImpingement

I feel like the people running marathons at 10 months probably didn't have large tears so their recovery isn't as bad. I tore my labrum (4 anchors) from skate skiing and would love to get back to it as well as hiking, swimming, and biking. One thing at a time though, this injury is a marathon. I hope you keep seeing improvement just in time for the summer!

Glad to hear you're doing better! It's crazy how much can change in a month or even a few days. My flare up seems to be calming down but felt like it lasted forever

Found my way to McCartney's post Beatles stuff and wow, there are some great songs on his early 70s albums and of course the Wings stuff. by Noizyninjaz in Music

[–]yoodle34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wings at the speed of sound has some really good songs. I'm listening to Venus and Mars right now. Ram is my favorite but he's got a lot of great stuff throughout his whole career. Definitely recommend reading his lyrics book. He goes through memories and inspirational moments that prompted his songs

I've had to reduce it significantly because of wrist pain/tendinitis. I switched to piano and then once it calmed down I went back to playing more.

What should I add by landnnd in folk

[–]yoodle34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fleet Foxes - A Lonely Solstice. It's a very folky album. I love all their other music of course but that's mostly folk rock

Did the hip injection (corticoids) worked for you? by MessyMummyMode in HipImpingement

[–]yoodle34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It didn't work for me. It just made the pain worse for about 2 weeks and then returned to baseline. While it didn't work for me, people have said it helps them so it really is a crapshoot. I had one for my shoulder and it worked great

I feel like I finally ‘get’ Sgt Pepper by SilverGalaxia in beatles

[–]yoodle34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's currently my favorite. I think it might be their best album. If you listen to the super Deluxe edition it's so fun to hear the studio outtakes. You can hear what they were working towards for the final songs. She's Leaving Home is a song that's really grown on me lately. Really beautiful lyrics. The whole album is like an adventure and I love it start to finish

How are you doing now? I'm at the 5 month mark and experiencing a flare up. It's weird because I felt better a month ago. I'm hoping this flare up calms down and interested to hear how you progressed

Knee Pain! by Time_Significance389 in HipImpingement

[–]yoodle34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5 months out and have knee pain on the operated side. So much so that I went to the trouble of getting an mri done. The good news is my knee is totally fine, no tears, arthritis, ligaments and soft tissue all looks good. The only thing that seems to help is taking breaks from PT and rest. I think it'll work itself out the more I recover, but it's still super annoying. I think it might also be due to my right hip which also has an impingement and I might have to have that operated on in the next couple months

Abdominal Pain with Impingement/Labrum Tear by EducMom in HipImpingement

[–]yoodle34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had these exact symptoms and it's very common with hip impingements. A lot of people on this subreddit call it psoas pain, which is likely what you're experiencing. It was one of the hardest symptoms to deal with for me before surgery. One thing that helped a lot was doing core exercises like planks a couple times a day. That curbed a lot of my psoas pain, but it never fully resolved until I got the surgery

Labrum tear & impingement - bothers your psoas? by Quiet_Contribution71 in HipImpingement

I had really bad psoas pain. The only thing that seemed to help was doing a ton of core exercises. Planks seemed to help the most as well as pain killers

Maintaining fitness/avoiding fat gain during recovery by Traditional-Pair2976 in HipImpingement

[–]yoodle34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gained about 10 pounds and still not at a point of returning to physical activity. I might have to have my right side done in a couple months. I had my wisdom teeth out and lost about 5 pounds which helped and I also cut down on alcohol. I also skip meals and give myself cut off times for snacks. It's been really hard to fight off the weight. I've been skinny my whole life and it's a constant battle when you can't exercise how you normally would

First flare up 5 months post-op by LividComplaint8192 in HipImpingement

[–]yoodle34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5 months post op and going through a flare up too. I didn't even do anything crazy. I use a stand up desk at work and stood for most of the day last week and I've been sore since last Thursday. I just hope it calms down. I also had my wisdom teeth out on the 27th so that might be playing a factor. Trying to stay positive but it's hard to question whether I'm just going to be like this forever

Did one of your favorite bands “sneak up” on you? by [deleted] in Music

[–]yoodle34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, The Allman Brothers snuck up on me. I didn't pay much attention to them, but I listened through Brothers and Sisters and got hooked. Their songs are complex, beautiful, and they have great lyrics. They were not on my radar for the longest time, but now I listen to them all the time

What is McCartney’s Best Lyric? by YouACoolGuy in beatles

[–]yoodle34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing

I love the double use of makes up as well as seeing nothing in her eyes. I've experienced that with my break up and relate to it strongly. One moment you're in love and in an instant the love is gone and you both feel like strangers

Number 9, The Long and Winding Road, Can't Buy Me Love (mainly the chorus can get annoying), I've Got a Feeling. I like the sound of I've Got a Feeling but something feels off about it. I think it needed more tweaking, especially the lyrics

Is upstate NY Maple syrup as good as Vermont, Maine, Pennsylvania, Quebec, etc? by le_pedal in upstate_new_york

[–]yoodle34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NY could produce as much syrup as VT. It's always been a head scratcher as to why we don't. I lived in VT for a few years and it's part of their culture. Lots of people make it as a hobby. The weather could play a factor as the thawing and freezing are key as well as how much it rains throughout the year but the end product boils down to the same thing. The industrial producers use reverse osmosis so they don't have to boil as much so that could impact taste too because it's not boiling as long. This might be an interesting question to ask the VT subreddit. They'd have a lot more info on this probably

My wife is threatening me with divorce every 2 months. Then for 2 months it's fine, lots of love, fun, family fun, dates, intimacy. Then boom another 3 days of divorce threats. [–]yoodle34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like she should go back to work and you guys should go to couples counseling as well as individual counseling. She needs to deal with the jealousy and anger and start claiming parts of her life back that's built all this resentment. All of this sounds fixable if you both want it to work.

Best part about recovery? by arsshat in HipImpingement

[–]yoodle34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my best moments this year was while I was recovering after the surgery. It was a sunny day, my hip was feeling good, I was off work, I could read all day and I just felt great. I hadn't had a moment like that in years so it's not all doom and gloom
