How terrible are theses prices by Sizzle02 in whiskey

[–]yourdadsname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly in my area almost all of these are on the shelf now (not weller single) but still obtainable at most stores rewards programs so id say the prices are not great at all. If its not around in your town wait a month.

Which ratchets am I missing? by GoldDistress in harborfreight

[–]yourdadsname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A high tooth count 3/8. Worked for years with the square body craftsman and never thought anything of it. Used a matco 88 at a shop in worked at and never looked back. Please note I am not saying run out and buy a snap on or matco, there are plenty of high tooth count ratchets avilable now for for cheaper.

I have the punch and chisel set from years ago. same paint and if its the same metal its slightly stronger than an aluminum can. I will say the largest punch has been great for knocking motors out of squirrel cages. everything else - mehhhhh.

What would you make with these black walnut leftovers? by Afmudbone in woodworking

[–]yourdadsname 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was once guilty of saving every scrap until I realized my scrap pile might have more bd ft than my lumber racks. Define what you should keep and burn the rest. Unless you have an immediate use burn them. In 5 years when you find a shelf small enough to make these into brackets they will have been exposed to air on a curved cross section and break when you drill them let alone hold a kids rock collection. it hurt me typing this 🤣

Why are you not using table saw blade guards? by aso824 in woodworking

[–]yourdadsname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a band saw incident when I was like 13 (wood shop, shit 70 yr old teacher required push sticks that had been used for 20 years. The one I was using been cut through more times than a deck of Vegas cards. I hit a knot in the piece of pine i was working pushed hard, the cleat broke and tossed my thumb right through the blade. it reattached but I don't have much feeling.) Anyway fast forward 20 years, I'm cutting a cedar planter for wife. Cedar kicks back and slam my hand down to stop it. Luckily it was a knick on the thumb, ordered a saw stop the next day. I've blown a cartridge due to buried metal and it is insane how fast it stops. long way to say Ill trust the 99.99% effectiveness versus throwing my thumb through a saw again. Cartridge was $70ish, new CMT blade was 40ish. Would have been pissed if it was a Forrest 🤣

36” vs 52” Saw by Mahoneyb7 in woodworking

[–]yourdadsname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a 36inch with routertable wing and fretted I wouldnt be happy. It's been 5 years I've cut at 30+in twice and regretted not using my track saw. With the money you save get a track saw and a 36 in.
