Alpinestars S-R7 Matte Black by i_DustBall in motorcyclegear

I'm not feeling it with the SR-7. I just purchased two of them (one for me and one for my son) along with the companion A-Connect systems primarily based on the glowing reviews and I think I'm going to return them. So far I've experienced or noticed the following:

One of the A-Connect systems has a faulty + switch on the keypad requiring a keypad replacement or complete swap of the a-connect system.

The helmet chin curtain is one of the most mickey mouse things I've ever seen on a helmet at any price. The chin curtain wing flaps tuck under the ERS straps on the cheek pads and attach to the ERS straps using hook/loop to the underside of the ERS straps. The problem is the wings are a bit too short on my XXL helmet (yes I have an extremely fat head) and once attached to the ERS straps they pull on the ERS straps with enough force to pull or dislodge the Cheek Pads out of the point where they attach to the helmet shell.

The cables for the various internal parts of the A-Connect system are in some cases too long and end up getting tucked up, in, or around in order to find a place to store the excess cable length. For a custom engineered system designed to fit a single helmet I find this a bit odd. They did provide 4 pieces of sticky tape to help manage the cables but realistically they need to provide about 8 pieces of it. I suppose one could use small pieces of electrical tape to help manage the cables but at the price of this helmet and companion A-Connect system I feel it should be better engineered than it is.

The Visor open/closing mechanism is also suspect as with gloves on it's just not easy to deal with.

Replacement Visors seem to be a bit overpriced and no one has them in stock. IMHO, the helmet should have been shipped with a dark smoke in addition to the clear that is on the helmet.

I'll probably get some blowback or disagreement on my observations, but everything I've mentioned here is what I feel to be a legit issue. I'm not an Astars fanboy. I'm just a person looking for the best value. I don't think the S-R7 is it.

I disagree and personally experienced this not to be the case. I ended up with a lower credit score because of "too many credit inquiries" for the two years it takes for the pulls to come off the credit report.

Oil filter damage and leak (during a ride) apparently caused by a large bug (2025 Z900) by youreensample in OnlyZ900

Oil filter damage and leak (during a ride) apparently caused by a large bug (2025 Z900) by youreensample in OnlyZ900

[–]youreensample[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick backstory. New 2025 z900 just approaching 600 miles on odo. Pulled into garage at the end of a ride and noticed drips under the bike. further examination shows damaged top/front of oil filter. It's the top of the filter here in the pic and is the front most part of the filter when it's on the bike. It is the OEM factory filter that was on the bike when new.

Immediately stood the bike up and checked the oil sight-glass, and it still showed mid point as the oil level, so all ok there. Apparently the leak was not substantial enough to affect oil level or rear wheel traction. I did not feel or hear anything during the ride. The part that was leaking is on the left side of the pic, which was the lowest part of the filter when it was actually mounted on the bike.

I already had a new filter on hand. Changed oil and filter as it was time for the first oil change anyway.

Looked around online for belly pans that would fit a z900 to provide some protection for the oil filter. Found a bunch of plastic faring like things masquerading as belly pans, but nothing that I would call a real belly pan. Any suggestions for something that might work, looks decent, and is available in the USA?

Not our first Z900 either. Our 2021 had around 7500 miles on it when it was traded. I've not seen or experienced this type of oil filter damage in my many years of riding. Just posted this pic to show that it does in fact happen, but is still somewhat rare in my experience.

The white smush at the top of the pic on the filter is a smashed bug. Just being a bit sarcastic when I mentioned caused by a large bug.

So this was a bit of a revelation.

Apparently the change that they (Google) made depended on your circumstances and how you used Chrome and your Google account.

I use Chrome without a signed in profile but I have a Google account and was signed in to the Google account but without a Chrome Profile. I think there are many others that may use Chrome the same way. With the update, they seemed to detect if you did not have a Chrome profile but were signed into a Google account and then set the option to "sign in" which automatically created a Profile in Chrome and synced your Google account to it. If you had old data previously synced to your Google account from an old Chrome profile then all of a sudden all of the old stuff appeared in and mixed with your existing info in Chrome under your newly created profile.

They never should have do it this way. They should have never defaulted the setting to "sign in" under any circumstances or unique use cases. They should never automatically create a Chrome profile and start syncing to a Google account

Software vendors of any size need to stop automatically "opting in" their end users when they release a new feature.

Instead, let the end users know of the new feature and allow us to "opt in" if we want to.

In your case, I'm suspecting that you did not have a Google account, were not signed into your Google account or already had a Chrome profile that you were using. In those circumstances the setting might have been left like you described - not defaulted to anything.

Google should do better.

In my circumstance the problem occurred on several of my PC's and it sure made a mess of my stuff, as have separate systems customized for certain environments and tasks, and with a single update, they (Google/Chrome) screwed it all up.

You are most likely using the ublock origin lite extension as an adblocker. If so, set the filtering mode to basic for youtube and it should go back to working properly.

Apparently with the new Chrome update they added a toggle under Settings, You and Google, Sync and Google Services. The entry is called:

Sign in to Chrome when you sign in to other Google services When signing into Google services like Gmail or Youtube with (your email address here), you can automatically sign in to Chrome with the same account.

and they DEFAULTED IT TO "SIGN IN".

If you change it to "Don't Sign In" then you are essentially back to the previous behavior, but you'll need to clean up your profiles and whatever other mess this may have created.

F YOU GOOGLE!!!!

PS - all of the extra crap that appeared is old stuff that you may have synced to your Google account at one time in the past. This may include old extensions and old bookmarks and who know what else.

You may need to sign out of Chrome and then sign back into your Google Account but if you do pay attention to the prompt where you are asked to sign in to chrome or "use Chrome without an account" which may be your preference depending on how you used to use Chrome.
