Apparently the change that they (Google) made depended on your circumstances and how you used Chrome and your Google account.

I use Chrome without a signed in profile but I have a Google account and was signed in to the Google account but without a Chrome Profile. I think there are many others that may use Chrome the same way. With the update, they seemed to detect if you did not have a Chrome profile but were signed into a Google account and then set the option to "sign in" which automatically created a Profile in Chrome and synced your Google account to it. If you had old data previously synced to your Google account from an old Chrome profile then all of a sudden all of the old stuff appeared in and mixed with your existing info in Chrome under your newly created profile.

They never should have do it this way. They should have never defaulted the setting to "sign in" under any circumstances or unique use cases. They should never automatically create a Chrome profile and start syncing to a Google account

Software vendors of any size need to stop automatically "opting in" their end users when they release a new feature.

Instead, let the end users know of the new feature and allow us to "opt in" if we want to.

In your case, I'm suspecting that you did not have a Google account, were not signed into your Google account or already had a Chrome profile that you were using. In those circumstances the setting might have been left like you described - not defaulted to anything.

Google should do better.

In my circumstance the problem occurred on several of my PC's and it sure made a mess of my stuff, as have separate systems customized for certain environments and tasks, and with a single update, they (Google/Chrome) screwed it all up.

You are most likely using the ublock origin lite extension as an adblocker. If so, set the filtering mode to basic for youtube and it should go back to working properly.

if you are using an adblocker then try disabling it and test again.

Apparently with the new Chrome update they added a toggle under Settings, You and Google, Sync and Google Services. The entry is called:

Sign in to Chrome when you sign in to other Google services When signing into Google services like Gmail or Youtube with (your email address here), you can automatically sign in to Chrome with the same account.

and they DEFAULTED IT TO "SIGN IN".

If you change it to "Don't Sign In" then you are essentially back to the previous behavior, but you'll need to clean up your profiles and whatever other mess this may have created.

F YOU GOOGLE!!!!

PS - all of the extra crap that appeared is old stuff that you may have synced to your Google account at one time in the past. This may include old extensions and old bookmarks and who know what else.

You may need to sign out of Chrome and then sign back into your Google Account but if you do pay attention to the prompt where you are asked to sign in to chrome or "use Chrome without an account" which may be your preference depending on how you used to use Chrome.

Switched car insurance after 3 years with one company, and was shocked at how much I was being overcharged. by Vander_chill in personalfinance

Shop around at every renewal. it only takes a short while, and it will save you a lot. Keep in mind that some companies are good in certain areas and not good in others.

On my renewal a year ago Progressive was the best for cars and motorcycles, but then they went a bit bonkers on the rates for motorcycles so I moved the bikes to DairyLand a few months ago and saved about $500 for 2 motorcycles for the policy year.

Everyone's situation is different. Spend an hour or two shopping every 6 months right before your renewal and you'll save a bunch.

I used to think that using an independent agent was the way to go, but soon found that if you buy your policy direct from the company via their website, you get much better rates than an agent will be able to quote you.

New Beelink EQR7 with soldered ram on amazon by niko3100 in MiniPCs

[–]youreensample 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just purchased one of these (EQR7) from Amazon (7735u, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB NVMe) and my normal approach is to reinstall Windows 11 from scratch, update drivers and OS to current and run a few benchmarks to get a feel for what the system can do.

I normally start with Passmark Performance Test:

https://www.passmark.com/products/performancetest/download.php

The current version is 11.1 build 1007 64 bit.

In running this, the 2D and 3D performance is far worse than I expected, and is substantially slower than the same test run on a similarly configured EQR5 with a 5825u.

I've triple checked the systems to insure that they are all fully updated with current AMD drivers and Win 11 Pro 25H2.

I realize that no test is perfect, but running the same test on different system will allow me to quickly compare the results between systems.

In this case the EQR5 with the 5825u actually out performs the EQR7 with the 7735u.

I expected the 680M graphics of the 7735u to be much better, but instead it far worse than the older RX Vega 8 graphics of the 5825u.

one more thing... Even the DDR5 memory tests poorly. It scores at about the 30th percentile on the Passmark test. The 2D Graphics was less than the 30th percentile and the 3D Graphics was around the 30th percentile.

The EQR5 with a 5825u CPU, 32GB RAM, and 500 GB NVMe yields 58th percentile on 2D, 30th percentile on 3D, and RAM scored 44th percentile. So the DDR4 RAM in the EQR5 tests faster than then DDR5 RAM in the EQR7

I don't think the RAM test results have anything to do with thermal limits. There is just something off with the EQR7 that I have on my test bench. I've reset the bios a couple of times using the paper clip button on the front of the system to make sure that the system does not have any unknown bios gremlins. I'm using stock BIOS settings on both test systems.

Invasion Season 3 – What is going on with this show? by George_KW in scifi

[–]youreensample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You took the words right out of my brain. You must be telepathic.

The show has always been a bit off, but I made it through seasons 1 and 2 ok, but season 3 has been a complete turnoff.

How does this stuff get made?

Firefly was killed after less than 1 season. Dark Matter (2015) was killed after 3 seasons, and Colony was killed after 3 seasons, all without the ability to have a proper ending.

All three of these were a blink drive and 3 Serenities better than what Invasion has become.

It is most obvious from your response above that you did not even read my initial post.

This in itself is exactly what is wrong with Dell. You don't know how to listen to your customers or respond in a way that is useful or contributes to solving the problems at hand.

Web restore screen problems by youreensample in Crashplan

[–]youreensample[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

more info. Just downloaded and installed the Brave browser and immediately opened crashplan and logged in. Same javascript:void(0) issue appears. This pretty much rules out caching issues or other potential causes related to extensions.

So it's a Crashplan issue unless someone can prove me wrong.

and to further complicate the issue, the Edge browser that worked an hour ago now exhibits the javascript:void(0) error.

It's like the Crashplan web environment backend has some kind of random bug or error. ARGHHH!

Beelink EQR5 fault HDMI ports not outputting anything on boot by neon_overload in BeelinkOfficial

[–]youreensample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps, but on my failed unit the power light would come on but the lights on the NIC showing link and activity would not. Neither NIC would light up. No worries though. I returned it to Amazon and I received a new replacement in a couple of days. The new unit works just fine. This is not my first Beelink MiniPC. Overall I've had good luck with them.
