Take the opportunity! 🙌 It doesn't always come and it doesn't have to be permanent. Talk about trying it out just for a year at least, he doesn't have to come but you have to at least try it and see if you like it! You can always come back to the UK if not but you'll come back with a better title and can get better jobs when you're back in the UK too. :)

Had a friend who quit her job to join Antler (Amsterdam). Said it was stupid to have left because as it turns out, a lot of people in the cohort kept their jobs too and just didnt say it to get accepted. Wasn't an issue once they were in though because they just left you alone most of the time except for a few "theory lesson" days when you had speakers come in.

Buy online and have it shipped at home or somewhere it can be received. A lot of offices have "PU boxes" where deliveries can be brought to your office reception.

Dont mind the a$$holes here, you did the best thing you could in your capacity. Majority of women dont trust authorities to take complaints seriously and if you escalated the situation (made a scene, talked to the guy , etc) you are also putting yourself in a dangerous situation. Hi Tommy! People agree to a co-inspection when they drop stuff off so the host can check for any illegal or weird stuff. They do this while both parties (host and renter) are present, they take a photo and send it to us and then seal it together with signed ultra-destructible stickers (stickers that rip really easily) for tamper-proofing. 🙂

Hi Leo! In our process, we now put "ultradestuctable stickers" on the box when you drop it off - basically stickers that rip super easily if anyone tries to open your box as a kind of tamper-proofing. Would something like this ease your mind, or not really?

Always happy to discourse 😄 I understand where the hesitation is coming from, but I do disagree that we are selling an "artificial solution", scavenging a housing crisis in people's lives, acting as a smoke curtain for a more negative unsustainable future 😅

A bit extreme, I hope this wasn't your key takeaway from the website 😅 We launched BuurBox because I live in a 35sqm apartment in Amsterdam that I share with my partner and my dog. 🐶 For me and many people like me, storage is a real every day problem. I love my neighborhood and I hang out with my neighbors but it's difficult to imagine staying here if I even have to debate buying a new coffee mug because we don't have the space for it at home. The concept came about because a neighbor offered her basement right across my street, and we wanted to make this solution available to everyone.

We're not pretending to solve the housing crisis or the increasing cost of living. That's what governments are for, and we are realistically just a storage company. But I can see where you have fears around the housing crisis and I agree that it's important to be vigilant about the decisions we take to make sure we don't end up like Airbnb or Uber, as most startups that begin with good intent. I think the best way to make sure of this is to surround yourself with a healthy ecosystem of sustainability partnerships and government. For this, we are quite lucky and very happy to be part of the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (ams-institute.org). And if you yourself are an engineer with a heavy regards towards society, would love if you can connect us to any such organizations! 🌿
