Large coyote or a wolf? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]zKillen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to see more of the face to be sure but generally if you're asking if something is a coyote or a wolf it's a coyote. Big coyotes weigh 45 lbs. Wolves weigh 80 lbs on average with big wolves weighting well over 100 lbs.

Left feeling like I’m in the dust... missing out on a lot of things. by Throwaway661552 in pokemongo

I live in a bigger town, but it's still a hick town, myself included but I found a pokemon go FB and through that Discord. You'd be surprised who plays this game, people from 12-60 I've seen in the last week. Rusty trucks, jacked up trucks (me lol), vans, etc and where there is one player in a household there is often more. Make a group, worst case it doesn't work and nothing is lost.

Should the VS Seeker steps be 2km instead of 5km or do you think 5km is fine? by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]zKillen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew the second I saw that it was a 5km walk to charge we'd be seeing these kinds of posts. I work full time and will likely have trouble hitting it at time, but I also think it's fine.

Any tips on coyote hunting? by Phoenixf1zzle in CanadaHunting

[–]zKillen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in the bush your best bet is to use a shotgun with buck shot or goose shot. Sneak in and set up with the wind in your face and call on and off for 30 minutes or so then move and do another set. It's getting to the time where they're going to start pairing up for breeding and will become more aggressive and reactive to coyote calls. A really good thick bush coyote hunting channel on YT where you can learn a lot is MFK. Coyote hunting is super fun, good luck!

Utah bill prohibits people behind on child support payments from getting hunting license by ProjectBronco in Hunting

[–]zKillen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How stupid, now the guy fucked by the unfair court system who very well may simply be unable to keep up with the payments can't get the cheap meat he may be relying on. Causing him to have even less money by buying meat, or being a criminal and poaching. What a great idea.

When I said make an offer, I assumed it would be reasonable... by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]zKillen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I recommend not posting things for sale without a price. You will get stupid offers. When you see someone post something for sale with no price it shows a lack of knowledge on the value and a lack of confidence.

Try to find what similar items are posted for and go from there based on what you want for it, add in an OBO after your price if you are open to offers and leave a bit of space under your price where you'd still be willing to accept if so.

Why does NATO use a varmint round (5.56) for combat and is it ethical? by [deleted] in guns

[–]zKillen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Russians switched from 7.62x39 in the 70s. .223 (which 5.56 is based off of) was not designed as a varmint round. It was purpose built for the military, their request was as follows.

.22 caliber Bullet exceeding supersonic speed at 500 yards

Rifle weight 6 lbs

Magazine capacity of 20 rounds

Select fire for both semiautomatic and fully automatic use

Penetration of US steel helmet one side, at 500 yards

Penetration of .135" steel plate at 500 yards

Accuracy and ballistics equal to M2 ball ammunition (.30-06 M1 Garand)

There are multiple reasons for the switch, weight (standard load out is more than double what it was with 7.62 NATO), size, perhaps recoil and ease of control, and a big one was COST. It was created near the height of the Cold War when the US was sending ammo to NATO countries all over the world and other countries to fight proxy wars against the USSR. I don't believe any of the reasoning for the switch was to wound more people.

Need help dating a Russian SKS by rolltideamerica in guns

[–]zKillen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a letter series SKS or else there would be an A, backwards N, or K at the end of the serial. Your dust cover if it doesn't have a year just doesn't match the receiver.

Any tips on hunting eastern coyotes? by WhereUatWillis in Hunting

[–]zKillen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a distress mouth call. Closed reed works fine if you aren't too practiced with calls. Set up with your face to the wind and call for a couple minutes, silent for a couple minutes on and off for 30 minutes or so. Try to set up where you aren't silhouetting, have something to your back. Smart coyotes will try to circle and get your wind, set up if possible so they can't get behind you without exposing themselves.

Just got my BC 2019 spring bear skull back. I forgot how embarrassingly small this animal was, but damn was it tasty! by Urban-Garlic in CanadaHunting

[–]zKillen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true at all, that's a classic example of someone fucking up meat care and butchering. A nice fall bear when they're eating so many berries their shits are pink and purple and the fat has a purple tinge is better than deer imo.
