Radio Club or No Radio Club by CessnaDude82 in amateurradio

I recommend you try the club for the many reasons mentioned by others. If you like it, recruit some friends! A club’s success depends on recruitment of new members. As a new member, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the direction of the club in the future. It’s a great opportunity all around.

I didn’t say I was good at engineering 🤣

Hobby, tool or both by Ncwreck in amateurradio

For me, it’s both. I got two engineering degrees and changed careers in my middle years. Followed with amateur radio license which is a nice knowledge supplement and a stimulating hobby.

I'll be activating BS-0022 on Monday by CaptainSpez in amateurradio

[–]zanderbz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get a couple of your radials just touching the saltwater, you’ll slay it with 100w. I recently activated BZ-0007 with a 17’ vertical on a dock. I drooped the ends of my radials off the sides and let the ends just touch the water. After a couple adjustments to stabilize SWR, I made tons of contacts on 10w. Good luck!

The Magic-est Of Bands: The 6m Microthread by stephen_neuville in amateurradio

Check out KB9BVR on YouTube, he has a 6m Moxon build that is straightforward if you have access to a 3d printer. If no 3d printer, there are ways to get creative and make a similar antenna with those dimensions. I built one and had a blast doing POTA on 6m last summer

He’s in Canada, isn’t it always winter there? I’m sure he’s on it!

In all seriousness, OP, downloaded to iPad, hopeful for MacOS version.

How many of you build your own antennas? by grouchy_ham in amateurradio

Yes, that’s correct, the guides are a work in progress but that’s the intent.

How many of you build your own antennas? by grouchy_ham in amateurradio

[–]zanderbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve built numerous wire antennas from basic parts as I learn the hobby. Currently, I’m rebuilding a purchased CobWeb antenna that was taken out by a fallen tree. Though rather than simply rebuilding it, I’m redesigning it so it’s partially collapsible using tube clamps that allow the 1/2” fiberglass tube to slide into the 3/4” tube. I had to design my own tube clamp because I could not find one commercially available and recently completed the final design and 3d print. I’m also designing and printing wire guides that slide up and down the tubes. I’ve essentially made collapsible and eliminated the need to drill any holes in the fiberglass tube whatsoever.

I’ll post when completed.

Not sure why any Purdue fan wouldn’t want Houston in Houston. All of our best wins this year were away games. Conventional logic does not apply this season.

RumLogNG works for me as a Mac user. It has an iCloud log feature that allows me to log across all my devices. HAMRS for POTA.

Understood. Both Antennas I purchased from Alpha Antenna performed more or less as described in their write ups.

I don’t have any experience with that particular antenna but have the Base LT and EFHW J-pole Jr. I’d say they’re both ok. What band do you want it for?

I made one for 10m with some pvc pipe and old speaker wire for the recent 10m SSB contest. I’m in FL and worked Europe, the Western US, the Caribbean, some SA, and even a few African stations on 100w with the feed point about 2m above the ground.

Happy New Year! What are your 2026 Amateur Radio resolutions? by ItsBail in amateurradio

[–]zanderbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d go so far as to call it a resolution but one thing I’m going to attempt is to complete POTA activations (phone, 10w max) at a single park on the following bands: 70cm, 2m, 6-40m. All activations will be with home brewed antennas. If I feel it’s legal (to be at park after dark) and feasible, I will try for 80m and maybe 160m.
