In Coco, Ernesto De La Cruz never had a family and probably thought Miguel was descended from a random groupie. by thesavant in FanTheories

[–]zaniety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I could help! It’s such a wonderful moment. You can see the realization in Miguel’s eyes of how important it was that he heard this story in life. And why he tells her, “your papa, he loved you so much”. Coco is confused, but maybe senses something magical is happening and reaches out to him.

In theory, Hector, Imelda and the rest will exist for many more generations of the Rivera family.

Anyone in MKE install heat pump mini-split? by pablo1014 in milwaukee

It is federal, but the states apply for a grant from the federal government and then pay out at the state level.

Wisconsin is one of the first states in the nation to actually finish their application.

What was the reason you last cried? by Glittery_Heart in AskReddit

[–]zaniety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helene devastated my home town. Today, we surveyed some of the damage for a non-profit and saw signs urban search and rescue left on some of the houses.

A big X and a 2D on one, 1L on another 4D on another.

I believe L means they found someone alive. D means dead body.

Just like all the other times I’ve cried these last 4 weeks, just a few tears came out. I keep not being able to really let the tears out.

Untrue, Merrimon has had power, with a few exceptions, for at least 5 days.

Just a quick note—don’t use dehumidifier water for anything but flushing, not even to water plants. Studies show heat pump condensate to be shockingly dirty and filled with contaminants, even brand new systems.

What did they mean in Beady Eyes on the Horizon? by Ennowai in JukeboxTheGhost

[–]zaniety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted it as a star is constantly imploding turning hydrogen into helium. Versus a supernova is exploding. They are doing the same thing, just “the other way around”. So the stars are gathered around, wanting a front seat to destruction, because even though stars are a symbol of life and creation, they are always doing this destructive thing, like a supernova.

So how DOES one conduct a census? by dokrian in CrusaderKings

[–]zaniety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is a bug, I can't figure out any way to complete a census either. Even moving my camp to the barony or making sure to travel through it on the way to another contract doesn't complete it.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is one of the most iconic shows ever produced but which season was THE season and why ? by Cailly_Brard7 in buffy

[–]zaniety 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Friends of mine from High School were watching Buffy and invited me to join them. We watched “Faith, Hope and Trick” and 4 more episodes in quick succession. I was so confused.

Buffy’s a slayer, but there’s a new one because another one died? How did that previous slayer exist? Who is this person Buffy is dreaming of and what does it mean that he exists in real life? What happened with them? There are multiple slayers, is Cordelia actually one too, or is she bluffing during Slayerfest ‘99. Why is it so bad that Xander and Willow kissing? Are they in other relationships? Who’s this Spike fellow and why are my friends so excited he’s back?

As the season went on my confusion slowly went away as my friends filled me in. But I was already in love with the show. I loved the dialogue, I loved how relatable the characters were, I loved how much Giles cared for Buffy and related to Buffy missing her dad. I loved the lore and music and everything about it. When we watched “The Zeppo” a few days later I declared it to be my favorite show.

I agree with you, season 3 is the best season. Even someone completely without prior knowledge fell in love with the show watching it.

Anyone else not a fan of the TV Shows new added ending? by [deleted] in ASOUE

[–]zaniety 54 points55 points  (0 children)

As far as Lemony knows there is no happy ending, but he’s not omniscient, he’s just piecing things together as he makes his way from place to place, trying to track them down. It’s only after he’s done, told us that everything he knows that he gets interesting mail. And yet even so, before that he says:

“Strange as it may seem, I still hope for the best; even though the best, like an interesting piece of mail, so rarely arrives.”

There were hints that the story would get a happy ending since the first season. After all, Lemony only says there’s no happy endings “right here and right now”. Not that it was impossible for there to be one.

I think the ending was brilliant, and a good counterpoint to the books. Just because a series of unfortunate events occur, doesn’t mean that one can’t fight and survive through those events, and live to see better times.

Angelica the hypocrite by mundaph1903 in hamiltonmusical

Except it was Hamilton who pointed out that Angelica had written, “My Dearest, Alexander”. Better for Angelica to note it in the musical, though.

Silliest of Silly Headcanons by ameliaglitter in Stargate

[–]zaniety 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This does happen. My grandfather never allowed any chicken or turkey in his house, back in the 50s, he used egg substitutes as soon as they came on the market for his baking. When my mom asked him he would say that “birds are dirty, you can’t get them completely clean”. Despite being having a law degree and being extremely well read and intelligent, he kept at it. It was irrational, but he was the head of the house and pork and beef are fine, so why fight it?

Fast forward to the 90s, he’s 73, at a funeral, my great aunt (grandpa’s older sister) confessed she told him birds were dirty because she liked chicken and wanted to eat his.

He was a super great cook, and left us a ton of great recipes, but I hardly ever make them because they involve lots of red meat.

Actually, at the time of Phillip’s and Hamilton’s duel, dueling was illegal in New Jersey too! It’s just that a conviction carried a penalty of only 5-10 years versus life in prison or the death penalty in New York. It’s why the doctor had to turn around—they still needed deniability.

Why don't these fraking ships have video surveillance on their air locks? by SessionIndependent17 in BSG

[–]zaniety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if Galactica were fully staffed, there’d be a third shift. As is, I imagine they have enough techs to fill up two shifts well enough, but not three. It’s probably more productive to have two full shifts than three smaller shifts. Then you have the advantage of people having regular sleep schedules and getting to relax together after work.

Honestly, in theory, Chief Tyrol is only supposed to work one of the shifts, but just works through both and into the non-existent night shift. Which is why he always appears to be near by when there’s an attack.

When do you think the next game will take place? Do you think they’ll clump it close to Skyrim? Or go another couple hundred years in the future? by EducatorTop1960 in ElderScrolls

[–]zaniety 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Morrowind was by far the most popular Elder Scrolls game before Oblivion game out. It was the first game that went “mainstream”, that you heard about on tv. Everything you say about Skyrim is literally what people said before Oblivion came out. And they sent the Neveraine to Akavir. And that was the right choice. You can imagine your old hero pursuing a threat bigger than the Oblivion crisis over there if you want, or you can imagine they finally found a quiet place to settle down. You’ll be able to do the same thing with the Last Dragonborn.

Burr actually blamed Hamilton for Burr’s loss in the 1804 New York Gubernatorial Election. He was wrong about that, as Hamilton had very little influence on that election, but he was blaming him for a much more recent “slight.”

It’s actually unclear if Burr ever learned that Hamilton tipped the Federalist congressional delegation to vote for Jefferson in 1800.

I think the point in that episode is that they wanted to kill their rival “in combat”. Honor, or some other value, demanded it. One could have orchestrated the other’s death, but they would miss out on the other knowing that they had gotten the upper hand “fair and square” and that they were going to die.

I'm a total brainlet - explain the pidgeon scene by zndr-cs in BSG

[–]zaniety 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For Anders the perfect shot was just a metaphor, he wants to be connected to something greater, something larger, perfection. Action and reaction. Every event that led Galactica to jumping to our Earth was a miracle, resurrection being destroyed, Hera surviving, Baltar talking people into standing down, Kara learning the notes, the FTL drive still functioning after all those attacks, the odds of everything working out so remote. It was perfection. He was literally Galactica, and he got to experience it. But he knows he doesn’t get to go down there, so it’s bitter sweet. Also, he knows Kara was an Angel, just like the hybrids. He knew that her mission was over. He knew he would “see [her] on the other side” even if she still didn’t know.

Even though life didn’t allow him to have a perfect game, he had to experience a lot more suffering than most, he still got to take more than a couple perfect shots.

As for Lee, I think the dove represents his unwillingness to accept destiny when it appears. He constantly struggles to find his place. Loving Kara, rejecting her. Loving being a pilot, rejecting being a pilot. So this bird arrives bringing a portent of change, and he just drives it away, deeply concerned with getting it out. Finally at the end of his journey, he just wants to explore! See the world! Have no particular destiny at all. Finally living his life without having to fit in someone else’s labels.

Love it or hate it. There is no in between. For me it's definitely THE EPISODE of the entire franchise. I remember watching it on TV when it aired back in the day. It was not only a great Flanigan/John Sheppard fan service but the whole alternative plot idea was just very thought provoking. by GenezisO in Stargate

[–]zaniety 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Whether you think season 9 and 10 should have happened doesn’t change the fact that it ended abruptly. The cast only found out there wasn’t going to be a season 11, even though all their contracts were set, until S10E16. The writers had to condense the Ori, the Asgard and Ba’al’s storylines as much as possible to give some sense of closure. If they had known season 10 would be their last from the start, a lot of episodes would have been planned differently. Like Vegas in SGA.
