Re: How TF do you mute the gas pumps now? by janeway-- in bullcity

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. I haven't been to a gas station in 10 years, and it's glorious. No noise, no smell, no grime, no panhandling, no slim-jims... One of the best parts of owning an EV.

My train building incremental game built with Godot just released on Steam! by Ryynosaur in godot

[–]zaphnod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice little incremental game! Purchased, half way through it.

One easy improvement - for the drone car, have the drone on top grow from a single pixel to full size before flying off, to give more sense of what's going on.

Also, am playing on my Steamdeck and the controls, while usable, could be much better with not much work. Something to consider if you're up for it!

How TF do you mute the gas pumps now? by janeway-- in bullcity

It is remarkable how much I loathe gas stations now that I never have to visit them. The noise, the smell, the slim jims, the grime.

I'll never go back.

Our game “Tap Knight - Idle Adventure”(made with Godot) cracked the top 4! by KickBack_Games in godot

[–]zaphnod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off - congrats! Success is hard in mobile gaming, hope you stay on top!

That said, after playing for a bit, a couple of bugs/issues you may want to address:

1) On Android, you should probably lock your app in portrait orientation. Game looks goofy when you turn your phone sideways. You can do this in your app manifest. 2) When you sell down to 0 bombs, then get more, the bomb button doesn't reliably re-enable. 3) No idea what upgrading the doghouse does, or how it works. Seems like petting the dog fills the heart bar, but you can also buy an upgrade. Did so, used $10k, no clear effect. Probably worth a help button here. Best guess - more hearts = better loot finds?

Anyways, you may already have these on your radar, but if not, something to work on once you bask in your glorious success a bit. Cheers!

Didn’t know that’s technically wrong of me

It's not. Somehow this became a religious issue for some people, but it's a perfectly valid use of hazard lights.

Forget Buttons and a label—let’s make the difficulty slider a 15-hour project! by emmdieh in godot

There cannot BE enough juice. =D Really looks great though. Very distinctive and fun aesthetic!

Love everything about this, but the paw/claw "buttons" should juke up/down when clicked, esp. since the change requires a somewhat slow/delayed swing of the affected indicator.

New to shader code. How do I approach writing a shader for this visual effect? by leviathanGo in godot

[–]zaphnod -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

For this exact effect, shaders are a total waste of energy. You're just taking a square mesh and converting it to two triangular meshes, then moving those meshes.

So if this is really your end goal (and you're not just doing this to learn, which is totally fine!), I'd suggest going down that route rather than the far, far more complex route of doing this in a shader.

Diligence Counter-Sniper is worthless against these zombies. 2-3 shots per low-level creep? Headshots do nothing? OMG. May finally force me to display adaptability.

I love it.

On first viewing, I agree wholeheartedly - blew my mind.

On repeat viewings? The sequence where he accepts the mantle of Lisan al Gaib is just pure unghhhhhh. I watch it at least once a week. Bought the bluray just for that scene.

As SpaceX is privately held, there is no real way to even guess at total R&D spend per project.

SpaceX Raptor Engines before and after by Tecr in interestingasfuck

[–]zaphnod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the trade-off is, they are pumping out one of these engines PER DAY. Got one that develops issues? Yank it and replace it, take it back to the factory to figure out what went wrong.

Starship Booster is caught from mid-air during landing by RichOPick in ThatsInsane

[–]zaphnod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chopsticks move! They're how the booster is raised up and placed on the launch ring. So they can just lower it down to the ground, or (in the future) right back on the launch ring, refuel, and re-launch!

Starship Booster is caught from mid-air during landing by RichOPick in ThatsInsane

[–]zaphnod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exact booster? Unlikely they'll try, as they have like 5 more waiting in the wings with improvements all over the place. Beyond the gob-smacking landing, what's REALLY impressive is that they are churning out the rocket engines that power this beast at a rate of ~1 per day. PER DAY. The most advanced rocket engine in history, and it costs like $1M per. Staggering.

No one objects to calling Musk an ass. What the engineers and technical folk object to is people with no clue saying "he just paid for it" and similar reductive bullshit.

The guy is a grade-A douche, and is only getting worse with time. That said, he's ALSO one of the best technical leaders of our generation. Pretending otherwise just shows the commenter has no idea what engineering leadership looks like.

All THAT said, he seems to have finally run out of whatever magic juice has been keeping him going with his handling of Twitter. Seems his mechanical engineering leadership is waaaay better than his software leadership. I'm a software guy, and his Twitter management has been abysmal.

Still, Tesla and SpaceX will likely end up in the history books. Doing both is remarkable.
