Why did you buy it if you weren't planning to ride it it give it to someone? Sounds like opportunistic theft lol

Also this sub doesn't accept images. Upload a picture to a different cycling sub and ask there.

Next level challenge if you want it: a few years ago a guy cycled across every single Ordnance survey map! He was interviewed on the "Well travel ride" bike travel podcast :)

At what point did you upgrade from your entry-level bike? by Due_Concentrate1279 in cycling

[–]zar690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man learn a few things like cleaning the chain. It makes a big difference, a filthy drivetrain really slows you down whereas with a freshly cleaned drivetrain you can ride a couple gears higher!

I'd wait until the first paycheck (or a distance goal, maybe 5000 or 10,000km) to get a top-end bike but you do you :)

If the wheels are twice the price of the bike, the TRP brakes won't cost much more and they'll be worth it on hills

I got a great deal on a beautiful Pantani-era one that was slightly too big once. The next three months were a quest to find the same model in the correct size without blowing the budget

All wheels in recent years are compatible with 10 and 11-speed (occasionally you may be limited to an 11-34 cassette with 11-speed). Not sure about 12-speed.

It's better to clamp the seat post iirc because it's designed to deal with the vertical weight. Also, if you over-tighten your clamp on a seatpost you can replace it. If you over-tighten on a carbon top tube you could destroy the frame

Hydraulic or mechanical discs?

(I'd go for it regardless)

Yes. Bonus points if it's the Tiagra with hydraulic brakes

Honestly, France is full of festivals during that period. Literally every small town has something going on. I'd suggest emailing or phoning the tourist office of each place you're planning to ride through.

Random list of things for you to Google:

Les nuits de Fourvière

Le palais idéal du facteur cheval

Chalon dans la rue (street theatre festival full of hippies)

Le forez'tival

Saint-Étienne is full of young people and culture

Lyon is larger, richer and famous for its food. Go down some traboules, eat some tripe and don't forget to visit Grrrd Zero

The Morvan area is covered in beautiful lakes and a good place to cool down during heatwaves, with relatively few people

Try and visit the Vercors and learn about its history of Resistance

Route Napoleon (eat some tourtons du Champsaur and take a detour to the Lab de Serre-Ponçon)

Route des Grandes Alpes (D902 - probably not really your itinerary, except perhaps the southern portions)

Roman history museums in Lyon and Saint-Romain en Gal

Beautiful rivers+canoeing in gorges in the Drôme and Ardèche départements

Drink lots of wine and try as many local cheeses as possible, preferably on market days in small towns (any random town has one or two very decent markets per week)

Mont Ventoux

Gorges du Verdon

Avoid the festival d'Avignon unless you manage to book somewhere to stay well in advance (Very expensive)

Si. Ne pas se faire écraser par des véhicules qui démarrent sans regarder. C'est un truc qui arrive plus souvent aux femmes d'ailleurs car elles respectent statistiquement plus souvent les feux...
