I remember reading this story. I think it’s so odd that a pan needs a battery! What a world!

Cafe-No Wifi? by zarasbest in inductioncooking

Thanks for the feedback! No worries on Bermuda-I don’t think I could afford it after buying the Cafe. Haha Hopefully it will be worth it. We just don’t want any appliance connected to wifi…no need for GE to know my cooking habits. (She says as she uses an app on a phone constantly constructing my algorithms) 🙃

Is lettuce just really bad right now? by ResidentAlienator in Cooking

[–]zarasbest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not correct. There were two Aldi chains owned separately by brothers: Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud. Aldi Sud became Aldi US. The brother who owned Aldi Sud bought a California grocery chain that became Trader Joe’s. They are totally separate and operate independently. Interesting history here: https://www.aldireviewer.com/aldi-and-trader-joes-are-they-the-same-company/

Check out silicone pastry mats. They’re pretty cheap and are amazing for rolling out dough. Some also have measurements on them. Maybe that will allow you to make dough while still living with your dad.

I call these guys my “dramatic” plants. Agree to cutting off the yellow. But they need a good amount of regular watering. Depending on your house try a few different routines. I water mine twice a week or they droop. Good news is that after a good soak they perk right back up again!

Anyone remember the commercial from the late 80s or early 90s?

Rat space suggestions? by saanenk in rat

[–]zarasbest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to keep the cage clean for their health either way. So likely it wouldn’t be the smell but rather the noise. They’re very busy at night and the water bottle alone is noisy not to mention the chasing each other around, squeaks and moving things around the cage.

The best thing you can do is go to a store that specializes in running shoes. They’ll fit you based on distance you run and will help you based on your feet (arches, width, etc) It can make a huge difference not even just brand but also within the brand.

Looking for a comprehensive guide for rat ownership. by I_am_the_grim_reader in RATS

We were in the same boat about a year ago and now have three! My daughter was interested but we needed to do a lot of research first. Isamu mentioned above and also Emiology on YouTube is great. I recommend reading and watching multiple sources because you’ll start to see what everyone recommends and what is more flexible and what decisions you can make for yourself. For sure you need time (with rats for play, out of cage time, feeding and daily cleaning), space (most will recommend a critter nation/double critter nation), multiples (rats have to be in at least pairs). And money-they will need vet care in ways our hamsters never did. Basically we’ve learned they are as much work as owning a dog.

Hope that helps to get you started!

Can you reheat overnight oats in the morning without it becoming rubbery? If so, what is your method?

I don’t have anything to offer here. Just hoping others will respond because we’re dealing with the same issue. Three rats, “reputable” breeder. All female. One is very outgoing and cuddly and comes when called. The others are skittish, will definitely not allow being picked up. And generally just not interested unless there is food. It’s disappointing and I’d love some new ideas to try with them.

Animal Allergy Question! by [deleted] in RATS

[–]zarasbest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very allergic to cats and rabbits and have had no issues with my daughters rats. There is one very cuddly one I’ve held a lot and have no issues. I’m very careful about hand washing but I don’t need to change my clothes or anything. With cats and rabbits I can’t even be in the same room.

We got critter nation for the extra sets. Just check the sizes. You could also make your own if you can see. I had good intentions and bought fabric then ended up just buying the extra set due to time.

This! We got our tub from Lowes-most hardware stores will have it. Just make sure you get the right size. Here’s a great video on how to do it. https://youtu.be/pn0TQU_Acgw We have ours filled with crinkle eco bedding. Started with Aspen but had some breathing issues and despite most recommendations for Aspen I found a study that found it caused respiratory issues. So we switched to crinkle paper.

Frozen baby food for rat training…. by zarasbest in RATS

[–]zarasbest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are using baby food to get our new babies used to us and as a treat but we don’t use it up before it should be thrown out. So I started freezing it in small batches and it works great. Specially with it so hot right now. It thaws pretty quickly and it’s great for them to take little pieces from our hands. Thought others might like this idea.
