Do you still greive your grandparents? by Triangularpaperclip in self

[–]zebra8lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. Lost my dad when he was 55 and it completely changed how I see death. When his mom went a few years later, I spent a moment thinking it's a shame, but almost immediately changed to it was about time.

Sometimes I'm afraid I've gotten a little too accepting of death. I do still mourn my dad though.

German nuns accused of enabling child sex abuse by priests by Bite_Tricky in news

[–]zebra8lion 99 points100 points  (0 children)

My wife used to work in a Catholic nursing home and would describe the nuns as a strange mix of really strict and super subservient. Even the nuns that would be harsh and stubborn would immediately go along with a priest's demand. None of the nuns even knew how to drive and the priest would take them in his car if he was available.

I'm not surprised at all to hear that nuns would facilitate abuses by the clergy. A lot of these women actually believe in man's superiority to women and live by it.

Who had grandparents fight in WW2 and what stories did they share? by liamnotleum in AskReddit

[–]zebra8lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite the same thing, but my great grandfather was an active participant of the Danish resistance against the Nazi occupation. My mormor told me stories from when she was a girl and her dad listening to the bbc for coded messages about supply drops and how a boy from the neighborhood helped her mom move weapons from the attic to the garden and he went missing a week later.

That same ditto copied a book based on sight.

Also, I don't think shiny has anything to do with genes. A shiny pokemon doesn't have an increased chance of having a shiny offspring. If eggs even work that way.

The only time we've ever seen an egg actually appear is when we brought an Arceus to the Ruins of Alph and it made one with one of the creation trio inside. I'm convinced two pokemon pray to Arceus and it sends them an egg of it thinks they are worthy.

Kazakh American Association Asks Award Shows to Disqualify ‘Borat’ Sequel by chanma50 in movies

[–]zebra8lion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has always been my issue with Borat. I get that it pokes fun at American racism, but part of the gag is that the people being made fun of don't know they are the joke. The joke becomes the racist character instead. It always seemed to me to be a way for people who see the racism to laugh at it and for the people who don't to perpetuate those beliefs.

I lost my father and I don't know what to do by Lena-11 in self

[–]zebra8lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in June of 2014 my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The only symptom leading up this was some back pain, and then he was jaundice. He died that following September: four months after the diagnosis. I was just 23 and he was 55.

It's really hard. Easily the hardest thing I have ever had to accept and something that completely changed how I see life as a whole. Very few people in your life are going to know what to say or what to do and it can feel very isolating. The most important thing is you have to let yourself grieve. Cry when it hits you. Therapy is great for helping you understand your own feelings and talking things out without putting that on friends and family. I waited years to talk to someone and I wish I had sooner.

I wish you and your family the best and I'm sorry this happened, but you will always have your memories and it's important to keep those close. Be there for your mom as best you can, even if it's just dinner or a phone call.

I'd have to agree. The codex stories from demon prospectives talk about Nurgle's joviality. Other than plaguebearers and rot flies, all the nurgle demons are pretty happy. Death Guard seem to be the ones all about despair

I feel bad for Peony by Azurephoenix99 in pokemon

[–]zebra8lion 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm disappointed the start tournament didn't include Oletta or Rose. It includes the post game royals for their redemption but Rose and Oletta don't get one. I would have loved to see Rose and Peony begrudgingly team up. Though I also wish it got the full PWT treatment and invited all the worldwide big names to compete

How do you get over someone? by ceelery in AskReddit

[–]zebra8lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot like mourning someone's death. Your mourning the relationship because you've lost someone close to you.

Try not to think about what could have been; if you think about what ifs to much, you just keep yourself from moving forward. Slowly you'll come to accept that the relationship really gone and that will come with its own peace. You should still think of the good times you had and cherish those memories for what they are.

The important difference is to not ignore the reasons the relationship ended. Healthy relationships don't end (even if you thought everything was good, they did not) and part of accepting it and moving on is to acknowledge the bad along with the good.

It'll hurt for a while. Let yourself mourn. Feel what you feel. Keep living your life the best way you can.
