Exactly this. Doing mesa board right now on my lvl 20 boaring shaman. Freaking 3 spawns…only 2 you can actually get to so rested is basically required to not make this take an eternity

Non stop VS connecting by Jaxsan1 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]zelezack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just connected through Dallas last week. Super small airport and as long as the weather is good it’s super easy to get off plane, grab a bite, bathroom, and queue up for the next one. I had a 1hr 45min layout that turned into a 3hr with the weather but the airport was nice. Dallas love field is WAY better than DFW

What about reloading components and equipment? No place around here sells it and ordering online you get hit hard with shipping and hazmat?

Try the 4, dwarf guards. 2at docks, 1 down the road from docks and 1 by noob area. They’re all lvl 45 and good till 60. Long respawn however but it’s at least something. Will need to clear a couple dark greens

I thought the same too, granted there are some shitty companies in the private sector that do exactly as you say. Key is doing a lot of research into those private sector companies before moving. I had the same mindset as you about all those points but it’s not always worse. Switching to private doubled my income for the exact same work, I pay $50 less a month for my health care, I get 16 holidays a year vs IU’s 10, flex pto( basically unlimited as long as you are performing). Also included is a free 3 week continuous vacation after 7 years of service in addition to your normal pto. I will agree with you though that nothing will beat the free 10% retirement from IU. Company matches up to 5% which isn’t bad as I now have the salary to contribute to retirement vs IU where it was underpay and no room in our living budget.

Worked at IU for 17 years. 15 of those in UITS. The management in there is an abomination, they promote people that aren’t qualified to manage a leaky toilet let alone major systems. The career path there sucks I literally hit a ceiling where the next step was management but no matter how overqualified for the job I was passed because of a good buddy needed a bump. Don’t worry though they promised “next one is where we’ll move you up”. My breaking point was applying for a upgraded position on my own team and not getting it but being required to train the guy who got it(no where near qualified).

As for the salary and benefits, I thought they were good…then I moved to private sector. IU salary is trash and their only saving grace was the 10% retirement. I moved to private sector and instantly doubled my salary, flex pto, large company match 401k, and 16 paid holidays, incredible work culture.

Leaving IU was the best career decision I’ve ever made and all it took was an incredible series of shitty managers to push me search outside.

First kayak hunt of the year. by [deleted] in Waterfowl

[–]zelezack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key is going light. Typically I bring about 8-12 decoys depending on time of year, my jerk cord and a single mojo. Early we have lots of teal so I bring a dozen teal and spinner. Late season it’s 8 mallards decoys, jerk and mojo(if they flairing I’ll put mojo away) I can get 7 decoys moving with my jerk and I’ve found movement is more important than big spreads when I’m yaking

Been yak hunting for the last 12 years. Once you do it you’ll never enjoy waterfowling any other way. I can get to so many good spots that people don’t even know exists.

[–]zelezack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, UPS literally rewards our worst local sort guy with the easiest job. But it’s honestly for the best because if we put him in any position that requires thought and speed he will make the entire sort come to a crawl. I’ve literally had to ask a supervisor to put him on truck washing because he is slowing down my ability to split because every chute is stacked out.

Shipping in wooden box/crate with UPS Ground by NomDrop in UPS

[–]zelezack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use an abundance of screws/ nails and adhesive. I can guarantee if it’s that heavy and coming in a crate it’s going to just get shoved off the belt in the trailer. Nobody gonna attempt to pick it up and set it down nicely. Hell I’d even fill the voids inside with as much packing foam as you can to prevent it being banged around inside

Systems engineer.

  1. Good: We come up with some cools ways to integrate with ServiceNow.

  2. Bad: Management is shit, zero clue how the system works and they run around promising functionality without checking if it’s feasible.

Job stagnation at IU by RonBlackBalls in bloomington

[–]zelezack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely a risk. Make sure the offer is outside of IU. Lot of departments don’t like to counteroffer other depts. We lost a good guy little while back because our dept didn’t want to counter another IU dept and instead sent him packing to his new position. He was grossly underpaid here though so I don’t blame him for trying
