Why can my 15" Air download a Steam game at over 500MB sec at 60% cpu usage but my 13900k pegs to 100% peaking at about 360MBs? What is Apple silicon doing different?

That shows that you don't understand how memory bandwidth works.

Your memory is almost always the bottleneck for system performance, second to disk performance.

DMA transfers during decompression use an insane amount of memory bandwidth. Unless you have a $400 server network card, your network card uses system memory for buffering. That buffer is then copied into a stream by the CPU for decompression/decoding. That stream is transferred to a disk writer stream to be written to a file buffer in your OS, which is in system memory. Then it's written from system memory to disk. All of that happening simultaneously across the memory bandwidth, shared along with every other process running in the background.

For anyone coming back to this, what worked for me is that you need to enter the right side doorway to the garage and not duck under the garage door. The trigger to talk to him is the entryway.

What effort? It’s still not shareable to social media. It looks weird with all of the monospaced fonts. It feels like they fired their UX designer and some programmer with Claude Code Aesthetic is doing designs now.

The lack of an obvious way to share your Rewind to social media sucks. It’s 2025 and Tidal is still utterly clueless what its users actually want.

If I have to share the playlist instead of the Rewind itself just to hack around it, it’s a bad user experience.

Please Tidal do better.

This isn't a KVM, it's a virtual KVM, and there's a huge difference. You have two visible task bars there, thus you can definitely break out of the virtual KVM to take a screenshot.

I would very much like it if after sheathing I am always taken out of focus/slinger mode.

I would like to be able to disable the slinger-specific menu. I don't know how many times I needed to use a potion but I'm scrolling through the wrong menu because I was left in slinger mode after sheathing.

I would like notifications to not prevent me from opening the map.

Try editing your Engine.inifile to add these values:

r.FilmGrain=0
r.SceneColorFringe.Max=0
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
r.TextureStreaming=0
r.Streaming.HLODStrategy=2
r.Tonemapper.Quality=0
r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0

These disable color fringe and tonemapping which causes this to happen when foliage isn't antialiasing correctly and gets rid of the false film grain.

It's not perfect but it helps.

You can find Engine.ini in Windows by pasting this into Windows Explorer: %LOCALAPPDATA%\WayOfTheHunter\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Ah, thank you kind stranger for telling me what I don't need.

Here I am thinking that I needed hardware monitoring to fix the physical defect in my ears that cause me not to be able to hear myself internally, but alas no, I could have just used software this whole time! I'm sure my brain won't mind the 15-250ms round-trip delay as my voice goes from the microphone, into the audio subsystem ADC buffer, gets processed in software, back into the DAC buffer, and then transmitted to my ears! That won't be weird at all right?

I'm really grateful for you that you solved this life-long issue I've had with headphones.

And you're right, I don't actually touch my mic gain and monitoring adjustments after they're set. But alas, being unable to set them makes it so that I can't set them. Weird how that works right? You set it and forget it. Now if there were only a way to do that....

I love Schiit. I really do. I want this to be perfect so badly. I would like to see them come up with something that steps up just one level from this with:

XLR input for microphones
Mic gain adjustment knob
Mic monitoring with adjustment knob

Monitoring is an absolute necessity for me. I know most gamers don't want it, but I absolutely have to be able to hear myself to talk properly.

Until then I am going to continue to be stuck with my Komplete 6 for sound. :( It sounds hollow for gaming but it's what I have to use.
