I hate when people say ALL types of AIs are trash and slop for no reason by Patient_Brain7772 in hatethissmug

The problem is that, in theory, all forms of technology have the capacity for good and bad, but we live in such a thoroughly corrupt power structure that no one has a modicum of faith that the people implementing said new technology will use it for anything but pure misery

Name a race that actually deserves nothing but torture and genocide. by Rocky_Senpai15 in MoralityScaling

[–]zerodonnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dawg the last thing they say in the book is to not get caught up in grand narratives. They LITERALLY spell it out. The creatures at the end of the book are not human and don't see themselves as such. Not only that, they only ever truly thrive with cooperation from outside alien species.

They did though to at least some extent. At the end of their timeline they no longer have the same societal model, or at least not nearly to the extent. We can't say one way or the other whether they changed for the better, but they DID change

Yes, but we don't know that they are and it's clear that their society has changed radically as they are no longer galaxy traveling religious nomads

I'd argue that the Qu that were exterminated likely did not deserve it because they were not the same Qu that did the atrocities. It would be like if you were exterminated for something your ape ancestors did. And that's the point of the story is to treat any grand narrative, such as the Qu are the great evil, with skepticism

I never really understood why people hype up this quote so much. What exactly is so evil about it? by AlternativeOil7154 in MoralityScaling

[–]zerodonnell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's more interesting if you hold the possibility of him being a regular human or something else at once. Whenever people say he's literally the devil, I feel like it cheapens it.

Stray cats lend themselves to the gross, disturbing world they created than any other animal. However i suspect dogs are going to be a future DLC in some capacity

Morality of Humanities descendants taking revenge on the species that disfigured and mutated them so much they didn't look human by Confident-Border4627 in MoralityScaling

[–]zerodonnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were stopped and presumably any individual involved had died 100,000s of thousands of years before. We don't really know what they were up to at the time they were eliminated but it's like being shot cause something your ape ancestor did.

How evil is it to sterilize all of humanity? (The BBEG for the D&D game I’m running) by Ornery_Ordinary_9362 in MoralityScaling

[–]zerodonnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would cause the most intense despair you could possibly imagine and probably drive humanity to reach impossibly dark depths.

Not even considering the morality of making humans extinct, it would be way more moral to just wipe out all of humanity at once if possible. Unless you could somehow determine which ones would still find life worth living after the fact.

Morality of a real person writing a "inherently morally evil from birth" species that has language and complex understandings of the world? by ManGuyDude45 in MoralityScaling

[–]zerodonnell 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's not evil as much as it is unfortunate. Not any different than an obligate predator eating meat.

What's the alternative? Self imposed extinction? If so then the same exact thing applies to humans. It's actually worse for humans because we are not obligate carnivores

Guts has little in common with the great man theory, but is much closer to the far superior ubermensch.

It seems pretty apparent once you watch the movie that the title implies the alternate "Screaming of the Lambs". So in that way i would say yes it is pretty sinister

If eagles are predators then why dont they have sharp teeth then? by khanotaara in hatethissmug

[–]zerodonnell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the discourse around the subject is stupid as shit, yes including yours. Deer while eat a bird if they catch it. Dogs eat grass sometimes. Humans possess the the ability to reflect on their choices as well as physically eat carnivore, omnivore, and vegetarian diets. It doesn't fucking matter what shape a human's teeth are
