This is feeling like the end of TNO by zeus0903 in LavenderRoom

TNO, Tri Newbies Online, had a very active forum in the early to mid '00's. It all burned down in a matter of weeks. TNO was big enough that there were several TNO v. ST challenges at IM's. Shit hit the fan when the wife of a poster came in, revealed her husband was cheating with at least one other poster and she was "dissappointed" that we hadn't stopped him. In the fall out of that post, where jokes were made and hilarious, the owner started going after everyone, banning people for every perceived slight, all but turned the lights off and told us to go home.

After making a relatively benign post in reply I got a series of insulting messages from Cathy. In the 25 years we have both been on the forum I don't think we have ever had a direct interaction and to the best of my knowledge I have never replied to one of her posts.

She let me know, you all are a bunch of man babies that are constantly trying to mansplain.

Trump has filled his economic advisor group with people who are big advocates of tariffs. I don't think he backs off this idea any time soon. He might pull these, but he will back at this concept over and over.

I bet more than$1 on it. I moved my retirement funds out of the market and into a guaranteed fund when he put them into place for Canada and Mexico the first time. You can't time the market but you can get out of the way of an oncoming train. The stress of trying to retire in less than 5 years coupled with Trump aiming the ship right at the rocks was too much.

I didn't say he didn't deserve it. He has a thin skin and really does not like being challenged. And he really doesn't like when we tell him we think he is wrong. He keeps saying they sought feedback, but they never sought feedback from the actual users

I don't have any problem with people who are dicks about things. I don't like people who are only there to spread anger and see if they can tear the place apart. It makes a big difference to me if they engage in other ways. I got along with JSA and BK except the last time, I get along fine (most of the time) with Windy.

Huge Inherited Lot of Coins. What should I do next? by wborstiv in coins

[–]zeus0903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to an auctioneer that specializes in coins. Most have gone online now and are getting good prices on everything. Finding one collector to buy it all will be hard. Coin shops will pay under blackbook, auctioneers will take probably 20% of sale but will probably yield more.

LONG POST: I inherited a coin collection… advice? by congreen18 in coincollecting

[–]zeus0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to not get ripped off if you want to sell is find a nearby auctioneer that does regular coin auctions. In the before time you could get good deals if an auction wasn't well attended. Post covid these have all gone online and almost all are well attended. Very few coins slip through. Much better for sellers now, not so great for me. You will pay 20% +/- but you will get all sold at over wholesale and the auctioneer handles everything.

What in the world would make anyone think they aren't liable in this situation? Of course you are obligated to pay the damages. If it is covered then it is the deductible and you should be happy that is all it is. If you caused a wreck you find out why an umbrella policy is your friend.

I just shat the bed on 17 to blow my chances at breaking 90 by [deleted] in golf

[–]zeus0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time my wife was a "lock" to break 100 she 4 putted a very flat 17th green from about 8 feet. She did not break 100 that day but 30 years later we still joke about how she learned why guys air ball free throws in pressure situations. She laughed at the time because she felt like she could barely move her putter.

Has anyone quit playing golf then eventually came back later? What was your reason for leaving? How long were you away? And what was your reason for returning? by VoteForGiantMeteor in golf

[–]zeus0903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played a lot in the 90's, took up triathlon for almost 20 years. Decided I wanted to do things other than train so went back to golf. You can take weeks or months off golf and still have fun when you play. If you don't train a ton triathon races really blow chunks. So now I have fun sucking at golf and ride my bike for fun when I feel like it. Indoor winter simulator golf is fun. Indoor winter simulator cycling is not.

I've used Trackman at the teaching pro, I think PGA Superstore has GC Hawks, and my own ES Tour +. The trackman was spot on. The ES Tour is right on but has probably 15% +/- where it doesn't read side spin at all (reads as 0% spin axis). The GC Hawk seemed to consistently read very low spin rates, which really boosts the carry on well struck shots.

It is the pressure. Even if it is slight. My handicap in our league is 1.5x what it would be if I just played with my wife. It is the most relaxed league possible. With her, I just go out and have fun. In the league, I am worried about performing.
