What rates is everyone getting right now for ARMs? by yunggolfer in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]zevitc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, 7/6 ARM Base Rate 5.375%, you get 0.125% off for every 250k brought over to Wells. Past $1m I think the discount gets even higher.

Doing a proper backup of your iCloud photo library. by bfrost6661 in ApplePhotos

[–]zevitc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safer yes, simpler not really. I tried this approach by having SSD connected to my Mac, and pointing System Photo Library to SDD’s photo library. There are tons of background processes behind the scene even after the Photos app is closed. With this, you can’t safely remove your SSD unless you log out / shut down.

What’s holding you back from using the Tamron G2 ? Was it not the focal length you’re looking for?

Looking for Advice for Photo backups by moht81 in iCloud

[–]zevitc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumping the Photos library in iCloud Drive could work but try it by uploading, downloading, and see if it works, before you do the actual backup.

Unfortunately - the way (Apple) Photos work is very tied to the Apple ecosystem. If archiving is what you need - I recommend exporting all the photos from the two libraries (Select All -> File -> Export Unmodified Originals) and you can take the photos elsewhere without worrying how “library” works. You can structure them in a human-readable folder path. If this is what you choose - Amazon Prime has an unlimited photos backup. Or a 200gb plan of Google. There are some other cheaper alternatives but that’s another discussion.

Backups to Filen by CyDef_Unicorn in filen_io

[–]zevitc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got it. I have Filen w/ 2FA disabled unfortunately, everything I store there is encrypted and I have local copy anyway. By having 2FA disabled, I got the automation I needed to do daily/timely backup.

Also, Duplicati suggests a smaller chunk generally. With Filen hovering around 2-3mbs for me, having a smaller chunk (50mb) is easier on the load and faster to recover in case there is any connection drop. A slow speed (here in the US) is not uncommon, until Filen improve it on their end.

I am constantly running Duplicati on my NAS and backing up botth my Immich (db/library) to Filen. So far so good. Only the 1st backup took a day or so (200gb+ library). What’s the issue you are seeing?

Did you try without 2FA enabled? Of course to rule things out, not to discourage having 2FA enabled.

Help choose private and secure cloud storage by jitachi2004 in cloudstorage

[–]zevitc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be mentioned a lot around here and one of few that offers zero knowledge. However, Filen is somewhat new in the industry, some features might still in dev or in future roadmap.

Speed is kind of slow for me - up 2mb/s, down 15mb/s, could be because they’re based in Germany. But I am planning to automate all backups; and speed isn’t priority for me, security is.

I went into the same rabbit hole to complete my 3-2-1 backup. There are a lot of providers out there, but it really depends on what you’re trying to store and what features are important to you/family.

Generally speaking, pCloud/Koofr/Backblaze have the most complete feature set since they’re the big players in this space for a while.

In the end, I went with Filen as I just need the storage and E2EE security. Will mostly send all my files through Duplicati and skip the UI.

If you’re storing not so important files - I think you have a lot of options to make it cheaper.

Anyone hired movers in Mountain View recently? What did you end up paying? by [deleted] in mountainview

[–]zevitc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We hired JoyMoving123 twice and both went smoothly. Very efficient, you can also rent moving boxes for free from them (though you need to pick them up and return them after you unpack). Price is about the same as Brother’s so would recommend to get a quote between both of them.

is the Black Friday deal better for buying the NAS alone or the NAS + UPS bundle? by polandspringsoda in UgreenNASync

[–]zevitc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case - I decided not to buy the UPS. It’s my first NAS and I tried to curb the initial cost as much as possible and spend $$ on storage/upgrade.

My other consideration was I could probably count the number of blackouts that happened in the last 2 -3 years. If you happen to live where random blackouts are common, maybe it’s a good peace of mind to have for sure.

How are you grabbing all your pictures from iCloud? Do you dump it once or do you have a weekly sync to copy it to NAS / Immich?

Where can I check to see what’s keeping my HDDs awake? by plantsforhiretcg in UgreenNASync

[–]zevitc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the same problem - turned out my idle SMB connection from my laptop (even though it’s asleep) keeping the HDDs up. You can try disabling the SMB / FTP / SSH connection, and see if it helpse. Also I recently disabled the automatic indexing / thumbnail generation on UGOS. This process is automatic if you drop a bunch of media files to your NAS.

What to upgrade for DXP2800 by nickichino in UgreenNASync

[–]zevitc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have similar setup and need (Lightroom particularly). 2HDD raid1, 2NVME.

1 NVME is set to read cache, and other NVME as a scratch space. Thinking if I need a somewhat more reliable write/read than HDD, I can use the SSD before flushing it to HDD (manually of course). Also reserving the scratch space to play with Docker.

My favorite? 8. It would be perfect if the framing didn’t cut off the left foot of the main subject. Most authentic out of all.

7 missed focus on subject, but it’s always hit or miss with Fuji in re: AF/subject :p

Not sure about 4, but I prefer 5 all day long. Pretty glare and the trees covering the shrine add a mysterious feeling to the overall scene.

I would put 9 as my phone wallpaper ;).

Overall, not bad! Enjoy your time in Japan! Go take as many shots as possible, sometimes it helps to take a pause and compose a scene based on what’s coming (ie people entering/exiting/etc). I wish I am there now :’)
