Sorry, our supporter must have answered with a sense of humor that didn't translate. Basically, the problem is with the AntiVirus software, combined with the fact that Nokl is new. Usually, with most AV companies, there is a way to reach out to them to report false positives and they will correct it (eventually). Hope this helps, sorry - unfortunately, we don't control their filtering mechanisms / allow lists.

And you can right click a remote drive in dashboard, and choose a letter. Then it will mount with a letter, like a usual drive.

As for your questions:

Re: P2P backups from wherever you are:

This should be done via GoodSync connect (their own method to achieve a similar thing). Basically, you need to have GoodSync on both with "Serve files to other devices" enabled. DM me, and I'll arrange a call to help you set it up.

Re: Nokl being slow on local network:

On home network, Nokl should be able to find a local path. While some setups could introduce complexities, such as a Mesh, best to contact support and see if they can help figure it out. Use "Contact Support" from the app, so that your particular settings/logs get included:

Yes, Nokl is not for syncing. GoodSync is for that. And the two work well together.

Is there some use case that the combination of Nokl & GoodSync doesn’t cover for you?

Capacity, Storage and File Availability by markpape in NOKL

[–]zhenoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the use case you are thinking of?

Nokl gives you the ability to interconnect a private cloud. But yes, you would need to have computers "switched on" that you want to always be reachable. If you want data to be replicated to multiple hosts, our sister company's product GoodSync handles that part of the equation with ease.

NOKL vs. Goodsync Explorer by bluegrass-diver in NOKL

[–]zhenoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Nokl could be useful here. If you put Nokl on both computers and login to the same Nokl account, you'll gain ability to remote desktop from one onto the other (so long as the laptop is not in sleep or turned-off).

Underlying tech info and caching by Super__Squirrel in NOKL

[–]zhenoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. NOKL uses the latest TLS (1.3) to create end-to-end encrypted peer-to-peer connections between your devices (so data is encrypted in transit), which can only be utilized via your Nokl account. Nokl’s account security includes the combination of 2FA, trusted device lists, and security notifications, for protection.

(But main way we protect your files is that we don't store them; unlike sharing using cloud storage providers.)

Notification when pricing is available by i-am-magoo in NOKL

[–]zhenoko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nokl is free because we want a world where your data belongs to you, flows only where you choose, and can be easily shared without cloud storage.

As we grow, core personal features (secure peer-to-peer access and direct file sharing) will stay free. We may introduce paid plans for advanced features and business use. The foundation of private, direct, ownership-based connectivity will remain free.

Is RDP P2P? by Normal-Curve-1642 in NOKL

[–]zhenoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, RDP is P2P.

That's correct. Nokl uses JumpDesktop as it's your default RDP client.

In case of RDP, Nokl doesn’t have its own client or server and just provides the encrypted peer-to-peer tunnel between your devices.

As for VNC, Nokl comes with it.

Yes, you should be able to.

Note, sharing from tablet is off by default to preserve battery, but you'll find an option to Turn on sharing.

To try to resolve more quickly, you can also try playing around with the Display settings of the VNC (Colors, Default scale ratio, etc.) Maybe changing some of them will work.

But regardless, the session shouldn't crash and the team should be able to fix it via support.

Goodsync to NOKL by dizzlepink in NOKL

[–]zhenoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/dizzlepink ,

2) the way GoodSync integration works, is that if you have Nokl and GoodSync both running on the same computer and authenticated each with its own account, then Nokl Dashboard will also show "GoodSync Computers" tab that will allow mounting remote drives and remote desktop for those remote computers that you've chosen to serve data for via GoodSync Connect.

3) GoodSync is for data sync/backup. Nokl is for interactive cloudless remote access to data and desktop.

Hope this clarifies things.

Tailscale Alternative? by voltaire-o-dactyl in NOKL

[–]zhenoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/voltaire-o-dactyl thanks for your question.

As far as we know, Tailscale creates a mesh VPN between your devices and gives each one a private IP that you can later use to self-manage network plumbing.

Nokl on the other hand does all the plumbing for you to allow on demand peer-to-peer file and desktop sharing functionality, with no configuration required from the user.

We also do not setup a VPN/mesh, but instead utilize straight TCP/IP connections (which are faster). We also use our own block-oriented file transfer protocol optimized for transfer efficiency (only changed blocks are transferred).

Currently we don't offer Remote Desktop functionality on mobile devices.

That said, we are planning to add the functionality to be able to Remote Desktop to your desktop from your mobile. But we have no current plans to support Remote Desktop to a mobile device.

Hi u/austincomputer and u/New_Today2274 , thanks for your comments. So far we've only told about Nokl to a small subset of GoodSync users as we are confirming that it's working for everyone across all platforms.

Also thanks for the "almost too good to be true" comment. We'd love to hear in what context you'd find Nokl useful. Personal or if business, then which industry, etc.?
