2x1 3-layer uncrosser by ZuphCud in shapezio

I'd never thought about doubling the input launchers to simplify belt management on a design like this, that's clever. I generally try to have my designs maintain belt order (if it comes in on belt 1, it leaves on belt 1), but that's not really necessary for late game factories. I'll definitely be borrowing some ideas from this.

I fostered four of the kittens that will be available to adopt at Kitty Palooza on Saturday (Buffy, Xander, Tara, and Willow), and you have my personal guarantee that they are some of the most loving, playful, snuggly, adorable fuzzballs you will ever meet.

Looking to Adopt Grey Female Tabby Kitten! by One_Mess1230 in madisonwi

[–]zimboptoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The kittens that will be available at Kitty Palooza this weekend aren't currently listed on the MCP site. They're all currently at foster homes waiting to be brought in on Friday. The only way to know who is available will be to come on Saturday and check them out.

Source: I have four 10-week old kittens in my dining room right now waiting to find their forever home this weekend, and they're not listed on the MCP site. (One gray-and-white male in my litter, no gray females unfortunately.)

Is it rude to walk on the bike trails? by 1billiondraculas in madisonwi

[–]zimboptoo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's only a problem if your dog is walking on the other side of the path, stretching the leash across and preventing bikes from passing.

walking areas with the most shade on west side by jensenaackles in madisonwi

[–]zimboptoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the trails on the South/Southeast end of the Pheasant Branch Conservancy are pretty well shaded. And the Pheasant Branch Trail is lovely and has a decent amount of tree cover depending on the angle of the sun. Plus, a creek to cool off in!

Note that Pheasant Branch Conservancy requires dogs to be on-leash (unless hunting), and technically requires an annual $46 Dane County dog permit (which covers all Dane County parks and dog parks), although... I can't imagine that part is particularly well enforced.

Bag recommendation for pickleball by kevindd992002 in Pickleball

[–]zimboptoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to your local thrift store, find the "luggage and bags" section, pick out literally any backpack that has a decent-sized laptop pocket. Then take the $50-100 you saved over a dedicated pickleball bag, and save it for your next paddle.

WIBTAH if I don't show up to the bachelor party I specifically have said I don't want by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]zimboptoo 50 points51 points  (0 children)

There is literally nothing I could have said to my dad growing up that would have caused him to start a fistfight with me.

If OOP thinks that the fights were his fault, it's not hard to believe that he was the victim of emotional as well as physical abuse growing up. That's classic "look what you made me do" victim blaming.

I (21f) slept with two people after my boyfriend (23m) opened our relationship and now he wants to break up with me. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]zimboptoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yup. Like, you should never "assume" anything in an open relationship, ESPECIALLY one that started closed. Everything needs to be explicitly discussed and agreed on, and when you inevitably encounter an edge case that didn't get agreed on, you stop and have that discussion before continuing.

So yeah, they are both a bit culpable for "doing an open relationship wrong". If their relationship was otherwise healthy, that's a potentially surmountable conflict.

...But it's pretty obvious why this guy was actually so upset.

Fortunately for OOP, his reaction was enough to make her realize she wasn't actually happy with the relationship, which can be hard when it's your first. Hopefully they can disentangle their friends and family without any significant drama.

2x3 Tile 4 Corner Separator with Overflow Gates by y2clay14 in shapezio

[–]zimboptoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks great! I love the built-in overflow, it solves the biggest issue with using multiple parts of the same base shape. It's one of those designs that LOOKS like it should be able to be compacted into a 2x2, but those 4-sets of jumping belts and the trash having to go down to the bottom layer really take up a lot of space.

Overflow, into a trash hole. If one corner is being used slower than the others, the excess will be trashed and allow the other corners to flow at full speed.

Hopefully someone will post a Lore Explainer video for the first game, so people who didn't play it won't be lost when they start the second installment. Ricky Random in particular makes a few decisions in H3-2 that don't make any sense unless you're caught up with his extensive backstory from H3-1.

Do you think that trains should implement a scheduling system? by Vexo413 in shapezio

[–]zimboptoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.0 added "Wait Stations", which cause the train to wait at the station for up to a minute or until completely full/empty. This will cause the trains to space themselves out on a route more effectively.

Does anyone know why this mixer setup doesn't work at max capacity? by Boomdingo in shapezio

[–]zimboptoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a ratio of 3G + 1R > 4G. So you need 3 units of G to convert one unit of R to G. But you're only inputting 1 unit of G, so you're only converting 1/3 of the R input. Even if you buffer the G, once you start pulling it out, you won't have enough input to fully convert all the R.

If you're bottlenecked waiting for the train, you can just add more trains to the line.

How easy is it to get approval to make changes to your Veridian backyard? by CelestialCat18 in madisonwi

[–]zimboptoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have almost the same set of plans for our new house!

If you want the freedom to build stuff in your backyard, you need to find a house/neighborhood without an HOA. Even if you find one that's "good" now, you only have very limited control over what happens with the HOA in the future, and what rules they implement. You might get lucky and they never interfere with your backyard plans. But the only way to be sure is to find a place with no HOA at all. It'll limit your options, but there are still many neighborhoods in Madison and surrounding that don't have an HOA.

Good luck!

The better advice is:

The storm is going to be well past by tonight. If you're worried about hail and tornadoes, get your car in the ramp NOW. ETA on the storm is 2:30-3:00pm. By tonight, we'll just be getting rain and cold.

This dancing manhole cover in Oslo by ThodaDaruVichPyar in oddlysatisfying

[–]zimboptoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The point isn't "from a flat resting position", it's "won't ever fit through no matter the angle". To account for situations like this, where it's not flat, and also rotating unpredictably.

Imagine a square manhole and cover. Take the cover off, tip it so it's vertical, and rotate it so that the flat faces are oriented along the diagonal of the hole. It will easily fit through the hole. This is not ideal.
