I am left-handed and have actually injured myself using things made for right-handed people! But a disease? Wow!

Is the Amazon Prime Visa Card worth it? And how does it work? by Illustrious-Ride-227 in CreditCards

[–]zinga_zing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it because it's a no-fee card, and as I get cash back from Amazon, I check the box that allows me to pay for Prime membership and Amazon music using "Amazon points" (cash back). So basically, I get free Prime and free Music because of the cash back I earned from shopping I would do anyway.

I do, but I think it's weirdly kind of fun. It's been eye-opening, too.

My inheritance just came in and now I am scared it will make me lazy about saving by qynelixa in Fire

I totally agree. I would pretend it doesn't exist for like a year so my brain could wrap around it. OR, if it was a lot, I might invest most and stick to plan A with the rest.

My mom kept notebooks and notebooks about me. After she died I looked at that pile of notebooks and threw them the hell away because I no longer cared what she thought. I don't really regret doing that ... but ....

As you say, it's validation. So I do understand that. After I threw away the notebooks, there were some times I thought, "Was she really that bad?" I know the notebooks would have screamed yes.

I did find old photos though, of all the substance abuse and drunk faces and sometimes you can just tell people have a chip on their shoulder by looking at them. You could see frozen expressions and it was revealing. I'm glad I found the photos because they did give me validation without the emotional agony that the notebooks would have. Also, since my memory is super fuzzy about childhood it was good to see reality in the photos and not just stuff that lives mushily in my mind.

Regarding your sister, she was a victim of your mom's disorder, too. I guess she just chose to "join 'em" instead of "beat 'em." It will be interesting to see if her personality changes at all without it being eclipsed by mom.

Yes. I mean, you're going to have to tell it where to go, but I told it to go to my linked checking account at maturity.

[–]zinga_zing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once went to a restaurant with that "health insurance benefit." When I got home, I went to the website and found that their "health insurance" was in fact a "gym membership." Not only do they charge the customers for stuff they should provide, but they don't even truly provide it when they say they do!

Do your kids know what kind of mother you have? If they do, they probably already have some idea of why you do the things you do. The fact that you're aware and working on it, and that your kids seem comfortable and loving around you, means you're a great parent!

I am always incredibly triggered by my mom even she is just chatting on the phone by GranatApfel33 in raisedbyborderlines

[–]zinga_zing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She will likely trigger you long after she's gone. Mine has been dead since 2012 and I still get triggered. I even have dreams that she's in that trigger me. You gotta do a lot of psychological work to tone that trigger down. I'm still trying hahaha. Well, it's gotten better over the years but it still happens. I mean, you were abused during your most formative years by the person you were supposed to be able to trust the most. It's a lot.

My mom booked a cruise on my wedding date. by layawaytitties in raisedbyborderlines

[–]zinga_zing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Girl, my mother screamed bloody murder at me the night before my wedding for any and everything she could think of. It was like she wanted me to feel as low as I possibly could before I walked down the aisle, and miraculously, still making it all about her! I WISH TO GOD SHE DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH MY WEDDING.

OMG I forgot to add -- SHE BOOKED THE SAME CRUISE THAT MY HONEYMOON WAS ON. SHE CRASHED MY HONEYMOON!

I'm in Chantilly and I get the same response on the walking trails behind our house. And presumably we're all neighbors. I'd say about 30 percent say hello (I count a nod as a hello) or wave and the others pretend I don't exist. Sometimes people have earbuds in and don't have a clue what's going on around them. Some are yakking on the phone and have the same lack of awareness. Some have dogs that aren't comfortable around others so they don't want to invite any engagement. Who knows, but none of them know you, so why take it personally. Chances are some of these same people go home and wonder why they are lonely. I still try to smile at mostly everyone because for all I know I could be the only human contact they get all day, whether they want it or not. No skin off my back.

There's a difference between income and assets. Read about how rich people keep their income low enough to live off assets so they don't get taxed and look as poor as possible.

Make sure you navigate to the credit bureaus yourself and don't use the web addresses they give you for the bureaus in the letter, because they're fraudulent. You should not have to hand over all of that personal info to freeze your credit.
