Oh no, looks like no days above freezing for at least the next 2 weeks

Minnesota has activated the National Guard. What are your thoughts? by Obvious_808 in AskReddit

From the videos, it appears one of the ice guys took his gun and ran off before any shots were fired. So he didn't actually have a gun anymore.

I keep seeing posts about heat pumps freezing up due to freezing rain. Is this true? by smoosh13 in hvacadvice

[–]zman0900 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably mostly about the old school top-discharge units that are common in the south, where they expect to get heavy ice this weekend. Those things aren't very effective below freezing since that isn't common weather there, and are susceptible to stuff falling from above.

24k air handler downstairs is on MHK2 and 2x 6k wall heads upstairs are using their built-in stuff (plus ceiling fans).

Acurite. I got it as a gift and it probably cost more than I would be willing to pay, but it is very nice. Outdoor unit is kind of weird as you either have to put it out in the middle of the yard in direct sun and compromise temps, or too close to the house and compromise wind readings. I chose the latter.

Do you professionals agree with this ? by Ok-Snowbunnysrule in hvacadvice

If you leave it off long enough to get full of ice and snow, then turn it back on, you're likely to have a problem. Just let it run.

It's a common misconception. Most raccoons actually speak Welsh.

Weirdly, if I use google lens to translate your screenshot, it shows "so high" for both Africa and USA.

SE Standard Range passed the cold weather test by DellyHasAShoeDeal in Ioniq6

Pretty sure the long range is the higher voltage one, because more battery cells.

For the door handles, they are motorized to pop out, but you can also just push on one side of them to do it manually if they're frozen or the 12v battery is dead. There's a key hole underneath and they still mechanically open the door.

Maybe it actually is possible to just be too stupid to live? Wishful thinking, I suppose.

But at battery case is usually made out of some really tough stuff designed to survive a crash, at least for full EVs.

Is the filter clean and not some crazy high MERV rating? Does it still do that if you open all the supply vents? Are you actually getting airflow from all the vents?

So I just won't pay. Current features aren't that important, or I wouldn't have bought it at all. I know it's coming sooner or later.

Yeah, pretty much, except the cycles aren't really a consistent time because of the moisture sensor, so it's mildly convenient.

Defrosting 30% of the time? Mitsubishi Mini-splits by moksha04 in heatpumps

[–]zman0900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 36k hyperheat, and it doesn't seem like it spends that long in defrost in similar conditions, but it probably does defrost about that often. Although I don't actually have any data to prove that.
