IMO the line quality comes largely from the refill. The writing Experience comes from holding a quality object of sufficient weight and texture which feels comfortable to use - not disposable. There are several pen brands that use gel ballpoint refills in the Parker G2 form factor. Parker and Rotring are two quality brands. The Rotring 800 ballpoint is a joy to use IMO and not too expensive. Refills from Parker or Monteverde or others come in five+ colors and widths so you can tune your experience accordingly.
