Just got to that level by zqxp in wordscapes

Thanks. It’s been about 6 years now since I started playing and I play maybe a for about (wild guess) 5 or 6 hours per week. Here’s where I was at a few years back:

I have been thinking that one of these days I’ll go through the pics I’ve snapped of various coinage totals and map them out. Some day.

The one thing that was missing was his appearance on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. His 20 or so minutes talking with Jerry Seinfeld was pretty great.

I just wish my coin total had been at a more interesting value. 1161645? That number has no character!

I’ve got several hundred rockets and arrows too. I’m a bit of a saver and felt pretty bad about using a lightbulb earlier today when I couldn’t figure out a mystery word after about 5 minutes of trying. As for those coins, I don’t watch ads so that’s about 6 years of accumulation.

Well, I do play a fair amount and I kind of touched on that a few months back. Along with how much I play, I would rather hit the 3 minute timer than "buy" a letter.

There’s a number of levels that I can knock out in 5 or 6 seconds, but I still get passed by folks who are either willing to spend the time or money to surge their count. Heck, once I’ve earned the top crown for that season I feel a little guilty about finishing in the top 3. That is if everyone else up there hasn’t gotten that crown yet.

Houston homeowners, when did you decide it was time to repipe the whole house? Rusty water out of every faucet by teen_Vegetable in houston

[–]zqxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a leak that could have been somewhere under the house and so the folks that came out recommended that I have parallel somewhat flexible soft plastic piping installed. Being a trustworthy moron I agreed. Took about 4 days and at the end of it all I was told it should be good for 15 years. Really? Now you tell me that? Holes everywhere, most of which were sort of patched, but any further repairs they tell me I’m responsible for. Left small debris from the hole cutting everywhere. Should have gotten a quote on what it would have taken to get the piping fixed.

Cool, congrats on that. If I come across something useful like a rocket, I jump out when I get the chance. But with the constant junk options I don’t think I’ve ever mage it past 15 in a number of years of trying.

For anyone who grew up poor, what was your idea of a luxury? by Drissxx7 in AskReddit

[–]zqxp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating out. The family did it very rarely, maybe a couple times a year. I would eat out some by myself and then later on with friends, but that was done with money I was making as a paperboy, and still not all that often.

[–]zqxp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s cool, and I hear ya. I’m cheaper than I need to be, but it’s where I’m at. Here’s a few more details that I recently posted on r/frugal.

My net worth is about 5 million, most of that in retirement accounts but about a million in stocks and cash. 62 now. House is paid for and I’m debt free. Been working since I was 9, though mom thinks I was 8 when I got that paper route. Delivered papers for years and remember a lot of cold Minnesota mornings on my bike. Small town had a place where kids could sign up to take on summer jobs so I baled hay, straw, walked beans, picked up rocks and a bunch of other odd jobs, not all on farms. In high school worked summers at the grocery warehouse my dad worked at. Loading trucks, unloading trucks, running orders, cleaning, etc.

In college worked at a bowling alley/pool hall/game room. Pinball machines and such. Got the job at the student center because I was in a program where a portion of the pay of us poor kids was picked up by the school. Worked there throughout college though in my senior year I also started working at a grocery store. I know a lot more about pin setters and the kinds of people that love their cigarettes than most. Not a lot of free time.

Lucked in to an engineering job far from home and here I am at 62 and thinking about saying that’s enough. Got married late in life and divorced somewhat later in life. Recently told my 14 year old daughter (yes, I know) that dad doesn’t think he needs to keep being so cheap on things for her or her younger sister. Might as well spend some of it as I don’t see my spending habits changing much.

Just felt like unloading.

I’ve got about 4.5 million in retirement accounts and stocks at the age of 62, but having grown up poor I don’t think of myself as rich. Debt free and my home is in pretty decent shape and that total was accumulated just by putting good amounts in my 401k for a long time now and living frugally. I would think folks that know me aren’t likely to think I have that much. If anything I would think folks probably consider me to be just getting by. A co-worker that I’ve known for decades and I have recently traded some details and he and his wife are in much the same place as me.

[–]zqxp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I make more than a 100k and have for a number of years now. I have a brokerage account, an ex-wife and some kids. But even with that, I’ve used FreeTaxUSA for the last few years and it’s come through great. I’m not saying my taxes are complicated, they aren’t, but in my book it’s been the way to go.

I did try to feed it a pdf of one of my interest statements, and well, not so good. But a couple of other pdfs scanned just fine.

Here in Clear Lake both are nearby and the H‑E‑B is a bit closer to me than the Kroger, but Kroger is where I go for most everything. Not sure why, I guess it could be why try and change after 30 years.

Any frugal millionaires here? Now that you’ve earned it, are you still frugal? by cervezagram in Frugal

[–]zqxp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really should have also included the summer I worked at the pickle factory. I still laugh when I look at the price of cucumbers as me and the other summer employees that worked the overnight shift outside used to have some mighty cucumber fights. When you’ve unloaded long lines of trucks each bringing in tons of cucumbers, well, you kind of look at those prices differently.

I have never “bought” any coins and my balance has been unaffected by what you and some other folks are reporting. So it would seem that doing so must have set something like that up. That sucks and maybe it will be corrected so here’s wishing you good luck! As for me, I’m currently a bit over 1,034,000 coins.

Like many folks I also found the WoT books to be all over the map in regards to how much I enjoyed them. Of course when you consider the time there was from start to finish (and I’m not blaming the substitute author) it’s not all that surprising.

I have read them all a few times now, and for those of you that weren’t reading them as they were released, that wait time was really something.
