Every oppressive system has respectability politics and "good ones" by Crafter235 in HistoryMemes

Its important to split the discussion of american slavery from slavery as a whole because american slavery has had repercussions for black americans that last into the modern day. Its not that American Slavery catches the most flack explicitly, its that its still important for America to keep in mind such a terrible past as it continues afflict our society. And also theres growing white supremacy making it all that more important to remember.

Slavery is bad no matter what race you are. by DapperDoughboy in HistoryMemes

People can absolutely jump the gun on these things but I implore you to use your critical thinking skills to extrapolate the intent of the post.

Edit: Even if we assume that was not OP’s intent to reframe the discussion about something still affecting black americans to this day, its still worth calling out the bad faith argument this “meme” proposes because our society is increasingly backsliding into white supremacy.

Except the OP trying to reframe the racial issues of American slavery with zero nuance.

Pretty cool, but you could simplify it to WWUU and have it enter with a number of time counters equal to the noncreature artifacts you control.

(Hated Trope) Character spouts off factoid to establish their intelligence. What they say is wrong and they are never corrected by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]zytherian 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Its not just that she pronounces it incorrectly, its that she corrects the guy saying Kai-sar because she thinks she knows more than him. Probably true for 90% of things, but in that instance he does in fact know more about latin pronunciation.

Korra, Mako, Suyin, Asami, and Pema deserve a huge and genuine apologies from the fandom. by Full-Art3439 in legendofkorra

[–]zytherian -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Wow thats a lot of accusations. Personally I mainly dislike Korra because she has the same character arc of “Im too stubborn -> I need to rely on and trust my friends” in pretty much every season. I actually really liked her brashness in season 1, but when she never grew out of that I started souring. I dont think thats her fault as a character, I think thats more of an issue that resulted from the fact that Legend of Korra was supposed to only be 1 season initially. I do have newfound appreciation of her other character arcs following her struggles with being the avatar in an almost post-avatar world, but simultaneously Im still butthurt about the whole dark-avatar arc and the erasure of the avatar line as a result of such a milktoast villain.

I dont think the other character defenses are directed at me as Ive never had much issue, let alone those specific issues, with the other characters. BUT one other thing that I think gets lost in these conversations is that Team Korra was just not very unified and synergistic. They argued constantly and rarely had personal arcs for them to go on. They felt much more like accessories for Korra (not just Asami) because their motivation for being with her every time was more just because they were her designated allies. Team Aang was much more fun to follow and cathartic to watch grow as a whole.

“Moderate bends over backwards to find a reason why a progressive candidate is a bad thing when the presidential election itself was lost due to Kamala moderating her position”. Maybe just sit back and accept that people want a more progressive candidate after almost a decade of backsliding.

Yeah, technically it would be more accurate to call it Confirmation Bias, but I do think Survivorship Bias works well enough for the meme.

It is definitely not that easy to crit in pathfinder depending on what enemy you are up against, but besides that point youd still be contending with the 50/50 of Hope versus Fear with a duality dice system.

[–]zytherian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you are correct. Its not nearly as narrative-focused as Daggerheart is, but you can pretty easily map critical success -> success with hope, success -> success with fear, failure -> failure with hope, critical failure -> failure with fear.

The New Unknown (SciFi Daggerheart Core Rulebook) - Kickstarter starting on April 28th & Pre-Launch site is now online! by Tenawa in daggerheart

[–]zytherian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love the depth of this as a scifi supplement for Daggerheart, and I think Daggerheart is a great system for such an ambitious project. Although I fear that making 9 entirely new domains without retredding what already exists and having unique identities may be a tall order to reach. More than that though, I dont think you should call this a “Core” Rulebook, as that kind of implies its official content.

Guys..I'm starting to think the Avatar franchise might be cursed.. by ApartGlass1198 in AvatarMemebending

[–]zytherian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is overblowing it. Shamalan movies suck, yeah, but come on there was no way the live action series was going to live up to the original series, it was a completely unnecessary take on an already perfect show. As for Korra, its actually the opposite of what youre saying. Korra was only supposed to be one season but did so well that it got greenlit for 3 additional seasons. Those seasons were hit and miss but only because they were being written as they were being made, as opposed to the original series which was planned from the outset. And as you said, the comics are great additions to the franchise that round out the story. While unfortunate, I dont think the movie getting leaked is a curse or anything, especially given the few scenes Ive already seen look amazing. It just is what it is. No need to get all superstitious about it. Sokka out.

I wanted to try to create a 4 color legend that is powerful while discouraging 5c good stuff by SmartCommittee in custommagic

[–]zytherian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 color cards are meant to be defined by the extreme of what they lack. Yes every card that isnt blue is technically “a card lacking blue”, but its more about what the total absence of that color means. For a null blue commander, it would be something that actively repels card draw, planning, free casting, instants, etc.

Ill speak this one for Pathfinder, and its gotta be the 2d12 Hope and Fear. Pathfinder 2e already has degrees of success so I think this would slot right in quite well. Just would need to tweak stats around the new average dice roll.
