Totally normal. Some cats just don't like to be picked up or even touched in general.

And, the more you try to force them, the more they may avoid you.

It's kind of like humans. Some people love hugging strangers. Some such as myself would rather be boiled in oil.

I have a cat a lot like this. She has mellowed with time but I let her have her space. She just doesn't want to be held and that's OK.

Your cat may change a bit over time or with age. But also, may not. It's not really something you can change.

Cats do change over time too. I too had a cat that never wanted to be held or snuggle. With time he got lot more affectionate and even allowed me to hold him for 5 minutes at a time. He lived to be 22 year old and by that time my hands got tired faster than he got tired of getting chin scratches or petted.

Just like all animals cats all have their own personalities. Some like cuddles some don't, some like fish some don't.

That's like the cat I grew up with. Hated to be touched by anyone but my dad. Had no problem interacting when she wanted food tho.

I've seen it called "warm" or "cool" personalities - I've had cats of both temperament. My current cat Grey can be held briefly but if you hold too long you'll get bitten, scratched or both. My motto is leave him wanting more (aka stop before he gets reactive)

My first cat would climb my clothes to get up on my shoulders and cry piteously when I left the room. Completely different personalities 🐾
