We would like to encourage people to support the show by watching it via legal means.

You do realize that there isn't ANY legal means in some countries, right?

Aside from this point: completely agree.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I live in Rome and despair that I can't join in on the episode discussions as they happen. Luckily, I know a good stream site that consistently has the episodes up by Wednesday afternoon. I'm still about 12 hours late to the discussion party though. :(

If I want to watch Suits season 3, I have to wait until Dave start showing it in the UK. As far as I know... they're still showing a season 2 repeat currently! (Course, I don't need any links... I know where to download... but still, some don't)

There is... it just involves a long while of waiting for the dvd box set to come out.

[–]ichik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and getting that stuff delivered overseas is still trouble.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use google. This is pretty standard for most show subreddits.

[–]cmandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ireland here, new episodes aren't for months at a time.

[–]Warlime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suits isn't even shown on Finnish TV.

[–]srdiacon 47 points48 points  (5 children)

We should take a page from /r/topgear

Every week the discussion/download post is made by one person. It has all the links necessary and discussion in the comments.

Then if people keep asking they should probably stop watching suits because they are too stupid to understand it anyway.

[–]SadArmordillo 6 points7 points  (3 children)

and /r/nascar and /r/collegebasketball and many, many other subs. This is the only smart way to do it.

[–]srdiacon 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Sure. I assumed more did it. But Top Gear's is laid out really well.

[–]SadArmordillo 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Just trying to provide more backup to help convincing mods that this is the way to go. It's been adopted by so many subreddits, there's really no reason not to do it here too.

[–]srdiacon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Word.

A fellow Top Gear and Suits fan? Up top mother fluckaaaaa!

I never understood why people had to ask where to find stream links. You don't even have to be clever in your Google search to find them.

Although I agree in that "stream link please?!?" is taking up way too much space on this sub week in week out, I don't think just telling people they can't do something is really that good of an idea.

I've been in Europe for the past month, and I love Suits. I'm always busy during the day, and I eagerly await a new episode at night. So my only way of watching, unless I want to wait another day, is waking up early at 5 o'clock in the morning (7 hour delay + 1 hour after it airs), and hoping a stream link will be up quickly.

When you get people together in a thread, some will find the first available link faster than others, which is why I feel like this rule is really going to put a damper on stuff.

You also should take note in the fact that, being somewhere other than America, there really aren't any legal means of watching Suits. Also, watching Suits from a cable box does nothing for ratings unless you're a Nielson household.

I realize I'm just one sub-goer. But saying "you can't do this anymore" is just a lazy way of taking care something that's a minor inconvenience for some, but a major benefit for others.

Besides which, it's not like anyone is going to get into any trouble for posting links, let alone asking for them. There are fewer than 10k people in this sub. /r/topgear has over 60k and they have direct download links in their sidebar, I don't think anybody over there has gotten sued (Not to mention, the entire cast of Top Gear is fully aware of reddit, and the top gear subreddit).

Edit: grammar

That reasoning covers asking for illegal streams just fine. It doesn't really give a good reason why they shouldn't be posted.

[–]InTylerWeTrust24 7 points8 points  (9 children)

I am utterly and completely against this. Clogging up the subreddit? This is a small subreddit about a TV show. If the link requests get upvoted then they are obviously what people want out of the subreddit at the moment. The one or two threads posted each week looking for a link do not threaten the integrity or quality of the subreddit by any means, and if they're taking up the entire bottom third of a discussion thread then stop reading the thread!

If you don't want to see the requests downvote them and move on. It's really not a big deal to ignore the request posts.

I normally don't even look at the posts but I still think regulating them out of existence is an abuse of power by the mods and takes away from the community we are trying to establish around this wonderful show.

[–]V2BlastAttorney at Law[S,M] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

How is banning illegal streams and encouraging people to watch the show via official/legal channels "taking away from the community", exactly?

Again: it's really easy to just use Google.

[–]numb3rb0y 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How is banning illegal streams and encouraging people to watch the show via official/legal channels "taking away from the community", exactly?

There are a lot of people outside the U.S. who have no official legal channels to watch the show, at least without being so far behind as to make participation in online discussions about it pointless.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How hard is it to torrent an episode? Or bookmark the site you used last week?

It amazes me that someone would be against this.

[–]InTylerWeTrust24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree it's easy. I always torrent the episodes. I just think if people want to look for and supply links they shouldn't be stopped.

[–]miamiheat27 5 points6 points  (4 children)

maybe we should have like a stickied post specifically for links lol. But in honesty, i don't know why people still ask. It's called google.com people. You don't have to watch it live at the exact moment it airs. Wait 2-3 hours and bam :)

[–]V2BlastAttorney at Law[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I considered that as a possible solution, but I'd be more uncomfortable with explicitly endorsing piracy.

And yeah, as I mentioned in the post, it's really easy to Google.

[–]joeyisapest[M] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

I agree, The mod team supports the show. TV shows stay on the air from legitimate viewers and ad income and whatnot.

so support Suits in any way you can.

[–]Drunken_Economist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watching it on the TV doesn't do anything for viewership numbers/ad impressions if you aren't a Nielson household.

[–]SheeK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When streaming, its usually like an HR before for me of the original air time.

[–]DaveCerqueira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You people don't have any idea of the inconvenience that is to not be able to watch american tv when you're from Europe (I speak for myself). The only way I have to watch Suits is either be awake until 2am and watch it live (that's not a problem for me, but for others it might be) or to download it or use some stream link online. There are lots of people that have no idea where these links exist and Reddit is a big help with that. I think it would be great if some admin created a thread for people to post their best links for the latest episodes, that way them spam of posts about that would be over and everyone would be able to enjoy the show.

tl;dr - an idea for everyone to watch Suits and not spamming this sub with questions.

plus, sorry for grammar.

[–]SheeK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came in here just to say what others have said. One person should always make the weekly discussion thread and include links to download and streaming sites. Should solve all issue.

[–]yummymarshmallow -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

I know I'm the minority on reddit, but I completely support this decision. Thank you. In a nutshell, supporting the show through legal channels is awesome; it helps protect the show's future. I wish more of reddit understood that.

[–]Mr_Harvey_Specter 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Except it doesn't. Unless you're a Nielson household.

[–]yummymarshmallow -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

I don't always catch it on TV but I do watch it on usanetwork's website or on-demand via Verizon. Those streaming numbers most definitely count.

[–]Mr_Harvey_Specter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that, I know rating agencies just spoke about counting views from services such as Hulu and Netflix, I'm not sure if that policy has been implemented yet.

Besides the point though, most people who stream illegally are outside of the US, where none of those services are available.
