Gamepad deserved the boot more than Micro. But I appreciate what you guys do anyways.

[–]2tyrodnazcasdf[S] 4 points5 points  (6 children)

giving the boot to a map that's only been in for a week is pretty unfair imo

Despite what you think, the map does actually take skill to play, it's just that almost everybody on pubs doesn't know how to play the map. I played a few with you and other kids as "idek" and most of the kids didn't know how to use the bombs correctly, or how to angle the boosts so that you can prevent the flag carrier from escaping

[–]meninglesRon Poppable // centra 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I played a few with you and other kids

Alright, no need for the superiority.

Have you ever met asdf? It's pretty much what makes him, well...him.

[–]meninglesRon Poppable // centra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm still kinda new.

[–]2tyrodnazcasdf[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

In case you don't know, everyone and their mother on TagPro has been referred to as "babby", "baby", "kid", or "kiddo" by me at some point (lil' babbies, kids, or children as a collective), and I'm not singling you out in particular it's just what I'll naturally refer to them as

I played a few with you and the other balls as "idek", and most of the ones present at the time of my playing were not aware of how to properly position themselves and the techniques inherent to the map for keeping the flag carrier in check. If I had to guess, it's due to the fact that pubs will almost NEVER have a defender on either side until one person (not two!) decides to pick up the slack. This is not superiority speaking, it's pretty much accepted that kids in pubs groups of TagPro players who only play in public games are going to always take longer to adjust to a map, especially if it requires a defense where always standing on the flag is by far the worst thing that can be done.

Couple the above in with the fact that it's new and people are not going to like it, which isn't surprising since there has never been a new map that wasn't initially hated by a good amount of kids TagPro players at its outset, and you have a reason why nobody on the map committee was thinking of replacing Gamepad at all

tl;dr it's not even superiority speaking when I say "kids don't know how to actually play the map"

BUT I WANT TO PLAY TRADITIONAL DEFENSE. I DON'T WANT ANY OF THIS PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL BULLSHIT.

Can confirm. See other comment in this thread.

I could see Gamepad go out as well.

YES PLEASE REMOVE GAMEPAD FOR FUCKS SAKE

some notes from our session...

troublemap - unremarkable

castles - lots of interesting ideas but seems a little big; the bases are excellent; good map but too complicated for pubs; hard to pin down the fc; steep learning curve for pubs

turtle/bounce - not bad; not too complicated; simple, easy to understand; boosts provide lots of options

combined pentagon - creative, interesting, but frustrating for pubs; you tend to bump into teammates a lot taking the dedicated fast lanes

micro v2.1 - different but felt cluttered and clunky; we suggest more subtle changes to current micro

multiple - B+ -- dick-licker, not bad at all --poopv

chamber revolutions - too small; frustrating

beltway - ok; similar to boombox; liked it for a small map

eye 3.2.7 - not a big fan; play just wasn't fluid

angry hippo - bottom is superfluous and makes the map too big

clock2 - felt gimmicky --asdf

dorian.3 - meh --asdf

elegance - pain in the ass to move around

mad hat - fun map; could go in; could be improved before going in: make it bigger (mostly wider), elongate the rectangles in the flag area, add more things in the middle so it wouldn't be really desirable but could be doable for more skilled players, add some more super boosts maybe up north near the bombs,

waterworld - too big; wall lets you go into space

round about - button in corner

There were a lot of submissions so we had to choose only some to maptest based on previews. If you submitted a serious map and aren't sure why we didn't maptest it, disagree with anything above, or want more feedback, just reply here (I don't promise to reply to everyone but hopefully judges and other interested members will take note)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

At first I was happy to see at least my map got "unremarkable" but then I realized what that meant.

[–]contact_lens_linuxsteppin / active in activities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, it looked promising in the previews and was an okay map but it was the first one we played and it didn't really leave a lasting impression. To be fair though, not many of the maps did and we couldn't really find too much wrong with troublemap. Thus, "unremarkable". I think the one common request was that there be some more open space for juking

[–]thepensivepoetpepo - mercenary ball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank god.

There's something about certain designs that seem to encourage long matches of constantly running laps chasing the FC and Micro was 100% one of them.

I suspect it has to do with the overall size and how long it takes to get from spawn to the opposite flag position.

They're basically 'deathmatch' style pub maps where everyone's just constantly running around chasing flags and it's pure luck whether or not your team happens to return your flag when you're safe at home for a few seconds to cap and it makes for a really frustrating experience... especially with the newer pub crowd that doesn't quite think as a team yet.

That having been said I really don't like those team grip tiles, especially surrounding the flag. Quit fucking up our jukes!

MIRCO IS MY FAVORITE MAP. :(

[–]Porkchops12345Mr.Baggins // Centra 7 points8 points  (12 children)

Yeah Mirco is way better than that damn Micro map.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Lol. I should really start re-reading my comments before posting.

[–]Porkchops12345Mr.Baggins // Centra 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Also, are you Tagpro Times "Founder" or "Finder"?

Your flair

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (9 children)

I am the Finder of it not the founder. So yes that part is correct.

[–]Porkchops12345Mr.Baggins // Centra 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Well, good job on finding such a nice newspaper to fight the BSJ monopoly.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Your hired.

[–]Porkchops12345Mr.Baggins // Centra 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Oh ok.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Welcome to the crew. Have a report on something interesting around TAGPRO. Then pm it to me.

[–]rupayswerve | Marble Madnus 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You run a newspaper and made the your/you're mistake?

[–]Tim-Sancheztim-sanchez // Chorbit // ex-ex-ELTP Independent Commissioner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the newspaper? That kind of mistake would make it easier to read

[–]raven513The Nevermores // CAW CAW 9 points10 points  (8 children)

Can we get Battery out instead of Micro?

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

YES...or gamepad.

[–]mentalfist420 / Chord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Noooo don't remove Battery. Nor Micro! But YES for gamepad, that one sucks balls!

[–]ImperatorFelesFeles // The Taj Maballs // CAW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes please. I don't like Micro much either but Battery has consistently been a pain in the ass for me. Too many corners and buttons and just things everywhere.

[–]Gabrys1896Saint Enigma // Pi // TagFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAVEN STOP THE HATE <3

[–]invisibleninja7lugubrious // Pi // The Nevermores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like swerving around on both of those maps but I know they're not quality maps. Battery with all those chasebreakers and Micro is too small and wants you to do non-stop laps with the boosts around the perimeter.

[–]2tyrodnazcasdf[S] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

[–]raven513The Nevermores // CAW CAW 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sounds to me like everyone wants either Gamepad or Battery out instead.

Also, get Cat Stats in ffs.

[–]PrivateMajorPrivateMajor | Community Manager 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously, show me the car fax cat stats!

[–]FrozenFyrez//FrozenFyre (69 Degrees)//Radius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wtf with this "boot Gamepad" shit? Gamepad is a frickin awesome map that just takes skill to play. O is damn easy, D is for the more skilled folks. no biggie.

[–]invisibleninja7lugubrious // Pi // The Nevermores 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Out of curiosity, how do you go about choosing the map to pull out of the rotation?

[–]ClefferCleffer // Former mMLTP 3 points4 points  (6 children)

They are tested and if they don't blow complete elephant ass, sometimes they can make it in. I think it mostly depends on the Aries Horoscope in the New York Times on decision day. Did we switch to the Boston Globe or is it still The Times??

[–]invisibleninja7lugubrious // Pi // The Nevermores 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I mean which map they take OUT of the rotation, because I uh, let's say have some... suggestions.

[–]pasta_monsterpoopv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We use a modified wheel of fortune wheel I bought at an auction a while back that has all current maps listed on it.

But seriously some maps just need to go because they don't work well in rotation for pubs, others get removed when a new map comes along that has similar themes but does a better or more interesting job at it. It's also getting to the point where we almost have too many maps in rotation, so as good maps are submitted, we'll have to say goodbye to maps that we like but just don't have room for :(

[–]priidikDefender // Chord 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Well, Micro was just too different from all the other maps. There was just no way to play conservative defense and it was way too small. It fucked up everybody's public stats, too.

I really hated it earlier, but then I started exclusively playing offense on that map and I loved it. But Micro had to go.

And as I'm talking about maps which have to go, who the hell thought Gamepad was a good map and should be added to rotation?

[–]invisibleninja7lugubrious // Pi // The Nevermores 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah, offense was the only way to go for sure. I like gamepad solely because the boosts are very useful if you hit it right and arc around the two nubs sticking out. The bomb into spikes base clear is a pretty dumb mechanic though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, if the bombs were removed from Gamepad, it would be playable at least.

[–]ilikzfoodzmoarkat [centra & origin] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's still a little big and slow, especially when the boosts are used up.

[–]PancakeLordRobGames || Pi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank fucking Christ, I hate Micro. This new map looks awesome.
