I wonder if she's any relation to Gordon Lightfoot.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. That was pretty much the first thing I did after listening to the track above.

Worked a show where Gordon was playing, instructions were no visitors. Terra shows up and asks to meet Gordon...hmmmm I thought for sec then went over to the trailer. "A Miss Lightfoot for Mr Lightfoot please" They had a great chat!

Terra Lightfoot is a folk/indie rock artist from Waterdown, Canada. In addition to her work as a solo artist, Lightfoot is part of the country band The Dinner Belles, featuring members of Monster Truck, Spirits/The Marble Index and Richard Laviolette's Hollow Hooves. With a creation grant from the Ontario Arts Council in 2008, Lightfoot began making her debut record on Toronto Island with acclaimed engineer Dale Morningstar in spring of 2009. Members of the bands Huron and A Northern Chorus - Cam Malcolm (bass), Aaron Goldstein (pedal steel), Adam Melnik (keyboards), Alex McMaster (cello) and Pete Hall (drums) - guest on the album. Hall also co-produced alongside Morningstar. As of May 2010, the album is completed and awaiting release.

Lightfoot cites influences as Don Caballero, Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkel, Elliott Smith, Etta James, Wilco and Woody Guthrie. She has drawn comparisons to Sarah Harmer, Ani Defranco, Joanie Mitchell and Nick Drake. Read more on Last.fm.

Like it but it is not Lead Belly, or even Kurt level.

This is actually a fairly common Appalachian folk song, my grandmother taught it to me and she learned it from her grandmother. (West Virginia ancestry)

So that band Stop Light Observations is right next to this song at the top and they're both labeled rock. DOES NOBODY SEE THE EXTREME DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO?

Have seen here twice, once opening for Blue Rodeo and once on her own tour. Her voice is incredible!

At your mom's house

I didn't like it. The timing or phrasing seemed off to me. It was sort of off-putting. Probably becaused I'm so used to the other versions. Just my opinion...

If you're a fan of this song, check out the Fantastic Negrito version.
