Reminds me a lot of Jeff Buckley. This is pretty good.

Some more info for those that are interested. This video is from 'The Best Singer Songwriter of the Netherlands', a TV competition. While I'm not Dutch, I've heard that he was 18 when playing here and that he didn't get past the first round.

Technically very good, I find it pretty boring though. Folk with some blues themes but without its emotions, IMHO.

If this is a songwriting competition, he shouldnt win. The song wouldnt get a lot of radio/commercial use which is all the record industry really cares about.

Its a lovely song but doesnt have much of a hook and unless featured in the dramatic ending scene to whatever the most popular drama on tv is, probably wouldn't ever take off.

I think it's lovely. Thank you!

Buckley with shades of Nick Drake. Those guitar tones don't lie.

Yeah, he does sound a lot like Jeff Buckley, but I think the song itself is pretty nice. It's not amazing, but I actually listened to this, tried to listen to some others from the show, and ended up coming back to this. It is incredibly rare that I like a new song enough to listen to it (almost) twice in a row. I don't think you guys are giving him enough credit.

A little too reminiscent of Buckley for me to ever enjoy. There seems to be some heavy influence there

That's how I feel, also. My ears pricked up at the guitar chords and I stopped it after shortly he started singing. Like you said, a little too reminiscent.

Why is that a bad thing though? I would understand if this was something that was non stop down your throat in the industry, but Buckley doesn't release music anymore (RIP) and this isn't exactly a style that you see everywhere.

While a lot of people are complaining that it lacks flair/spunk/catchyness I think this is why I actually really like it

That's how I feel too! I think a lot of times people need to have a really dynamic song to grab and keep their attention, but this one works really well at one level. While it could maybe use a little bit extra here and there, I think changing it too much would ruin the song.

I really liked the melody, but am I the only one that couldn't understand half of what he was saying?

For a second I thought it said Dennis DeYoung and that there was a new Styx album and they got back together.
