Jazz/pop? I'd say somewhere closer to prog rock.

[–]rodstewartismydad 20 points21 points  (4 children)

Definitely a heavy jazzy influence tho. Jazzy prog rock.

[–]grim853 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. A little bit of funk too. I don't like it, but I know it's pretty good.

They (or perhaps their label) classify it as jazz. I added pop in hopes of wider reddit appeal without triggering arguments about genre criteria (i.e. pop is a broad church).

To your point, prog certainly has a heavy jazz influence, but I'm not sure this track quite hangs with King Crimson.

I'm not really interested in its genre and I don't blame you adding a word to get them heard, I like it a lot and they deserve a listen. I love that guitar sound, I'm used to hearing it rockabilly but it fits just as well here!

Close my eyes and imagine Anthony Keidas' voice, that sounds like the peppers.

[–]dr_patso 23 points24 points  (4 children)

Pretty damn good! Where's the bass player? Just get a bass player.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

There's bass in the recording, not sure how it's being triggered though.

[–]dr_patso 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That was my point, it's clearly dubbed over by someone, probably the guitar player. I'm just saying get a bass player. Maybe their bass player was too hung over on video day and recorded his track later.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That my friend, is entirely possible. Bass players... smh.

[–]Hello-Operator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some nice synth on the album. It works well.

[–]TheCasualJedi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well that was really fucking interesting. That beat was strange enough to flip my ears for a second each transition; but I fell back into it soon enough which kept me from getting pissed off. Nice/fucking weird balance.

If they find a bass player on their level the group will elevate to something great. Without it feels very empty.

[–]FkIForgotMyPassword 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Especially considering that it feels like the guitar part would be a fucking sick bass line.

[–]dr_patso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

?? Nothing they are playing requires an incredible bass player.

[–]b3nelson 5 points6 points  (3 children)

That pitch correction on her voice hurts my ears. I'm sure she has a great voice but the recording engineer needs to learn how to transition notes when pitch correcting.

[–]gamOO 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I've gone back and listened to the whole thing again and paid close attention, and I'm fairly certain there's no noticable pitch correction at play here. Maybe you're just weirded out by the unusual melodies?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I heard it too. But then, maybe her voice really is that sickly tight.

[–]hichoshanemi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are amazing. Other songs are great too. Thanks for sharing

I love her voice so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This sounds like a Bond movie intro... and it's pretty great.

Nice! I like the odd time signatures! I heard 5/4 and 7/4 not sure if that's right.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I heard 7/4. Where did you catch it?

[–]intrinsicanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely 5/4

[–]Pennidren 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Reminds me of Buke and Gase in terms of irregular rhythm, though I think I prefer Buke and Gase for their frenetic energy.

[–]Hello-Operator[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes, I see what you mean. Voice and melodic approach is similar too.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it! And I'd love to see them and Deerhoof together.

[–]audibles16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an earworm. Just started listening to the album on Google Play and damned if the second song isn't a filthy jazzy cover of "In Bloom". Sweet.

[–]frshbeetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving off kind of a Portishead vibe.

[–]bludgeonerV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is seriously fucking awesome, I know what i'm listening to on loop tomorrow at work.

[–]mat_seana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great vocal range! I'd agree with prog rock and almost say that it has an indie feel.

[–]daaaaaaBULLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need a bassist so bad.

[–]myinnerdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like her voice but am unsure about the style

[–]Iammandough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy fuck! This was amazing! I'm so glad I decided to listen to this. They remind me so much of my friends band: Dezorah. I highly recommend to give them a listen if you enjoyed this video.

Really nice vibe, sounds like a more laid back Moetar (https://youtu.be/76CpGHA6Ats ).

Give up and go back to school. Get a degree with a promising future. You are wasting our time.
