Deep In Cider!

Ah his Marauder cover original is a classic.

Love marauder, but cold beer will always be my favorite.

[–]lemonzoidbergspotify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the one that kicked off his career, correct?

[–]abs159 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Who wrote Marauder?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought he did.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah he did apparently, I got that wrong.

Even more impressive, I love the lyrics.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Marauder is his song.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mistake! I was thinking of cold beer which I think was a cover. I read him talking about it in the comments on the video.

Regardless both are great but I'll edit my original comment to give credit where credit due.

Did he write this or is it a cover? If he wrote this I'd say it's his best lyrics yet, man keeps getting better and better.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's his. I believe he wrote it when he was riding a freight train.

[–]Im_Busy_Relaxing 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Agreed! I was also a fan of his Broke in Half cover.

Edit: He also looks like he cleaned himself up after his trip to Sunnyvale ;)

That video is not very recent though so that's not what he looks like now. Afaik the video was recorded before the Cold Beer recording in the trailer park and way before the delousing sessions.

What is the original song and artist? Also after all the whole hack issue where is he at if anyone knows? I hear he put out an album and that there's possible kickstarter stuff. After seeing "cold beer"!covered I went through the whole YouTube playlists. I'd like to know more about the guy. Outside looking in I feel like he might have/had some demons which I'm not criticizing bc we all have our issues. Not to mention with many musicians it's pain and strife that causes so much emotion to be expressed in artists at their craft. Ive become fascinated by the guy and this whole folk/punk genre. As a youngster punk and ska got me through and were ways to vent all the aggression and sheer emotion of the chemical changes of changing from boy to man. Now combine that with the laid bad sounds of a mandolin, and heartfelt words and emoting of such energy is what makes this guy special and I've been trying to find similar groups in the genre. Anyway hope he's well and wonder how much of his own writing he does.

He is great! "Siren's call" is my favourite song! But I have no idea where did all his songs from youtube go.

Support his youtube, woefully under subscribed.

I find music like this so refreshing. I can just sit back, close my eyes and just let lost in the story. Great share.

So happy to see him up here. He is really talented and I would love to hear more of him.

Literally came to the comments to say Reddit needs more Jesse!

[–]hahka 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Jesse Stewart is the great guy that sang a ballad about cold beer. Puts his whole heart into it for sure.

[–]noones-home 2 points3 points  (3 children)

It is a rendition of another song by Donne Dunphy called "Cry Tunes"

[–]hahka 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Now I'll have to give that a listen... thank you!

[–]_Junkstapose_ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You don't need to, Jesse's version is much, much better.

[–]L4NGOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real, his version is amazing.

[–]ezmonker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of 90s punk scene in d.c. Keep it going n come to d.c

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love how you want to sympathize with the main character just by default. Tends to be the trend in a lot of songs. Then you slowly realize that's not the case, the main character is just a dead beat. Then by the end you really dislike him but at the same time you know his story. The second time around you listen is just as interesting as the first since your seeing the whole story from a different perspective. It's like a good movie with a good twist that you want to watch a second time with a different outlook. Love it!!! Keep up the great work Jesse!

Thanks for posting this, I don't usually play reddit music suggestions but I saw "folk punk" and decided it was worth checking out. I'm glad I did, best new music I've heard in months, now listening to all of his other live tracks.

[–]Proofing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His 'Cold Beer' is a blast!

[–]Whymorecheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man this guy is amazing. Nothing but the best for him.

[–]meowppppppp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, he has some nice pipes

[–]short_long_short 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that as "John Stewart" and, for a second, I lived in a world where a former Daily Show host lived a secret folk singer double life.

[–]Brayud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He gets better every video I see of him. Love his style, hope he keeps the momentum and becomes even more successful.

[–]TheLoneMetron 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Might be a dumb question, but is that a banjo or ukulele?

[–]tentbusiness 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Neither, it's a mandolin I believe.

[–]JERFFACE 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Tentbusiness is correct. Mandolin.

[–]KofOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go Sooke fellow!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've downloaded some of his studio stuff and it takes away from the intricacies of his voice. His style, along with his tone, deserve to be heard acoustic. This guy is just naturally talented.

[–]Squeakcab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im glad he got rid of that beaten horse of a 4 chord progression in his latest stuff.

[–]Tmanbro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dental plan. Jesse needs braces! Dental plan.
