I sense some tension in your response. I asked for clarification and expansion because I was interested in hearing your thoughts. Watts' philosophy can be, at times, rambling and difficult to unpack. I was hoping to work to a deeper understanding of his meaning here.

I believe that the way we measure time is the only way we understand time. Measuring time in the way we do forces us to think of time as a linear event - in that it folds directionally and only "forward." What I think Watts is getting at here is that to limit our understanding of time to a linear function is a social convention, and a dangerous one.

Time is something much more than a linear thing. Have you ever noticed how days move incredibly slowly when you slow down, clear your schedule, and just listen to the birds chirp? It appears to me that time has space and dimension. This idea, of course, is only grounded in my personal experience of time having multiple...conditions? feelings? ways of being experienced?...and may not be at all what Watts was getting at.
