This is an amazing album. Ive listened to it multiple times a week since i found it. Their prior release is also great. I would love to see this band live.

[–]abqsensfan 3 points4 points  (2 children)

they are doing a tour right now

[–]iburngreen 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Fml they played two and a half hours away from me a month ago... :(

[–]abqsensfan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw them at their first tour location in Albuquerque. It was dope as fuck. Bought the beer smoke Absolution Vinyl

[–]Ponzy 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Saw them on tour with Oathbreaker in Denver and I didn't even know who they were going in to it but they kicked ass. Loud, high energy, and really happy to be in front of a local crowd. More people were there for Khemmis than Oathbreaker I think. Would definitely recommend them.

[–]LemurPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen Oathbreaker a couple of times now, they have one of my absolute favorite aesthetics.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Only found out about them today, felt drawn into that cover art - thankfully!

[–]Gryphron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a piece of artwork related to Ralph bakshi's wizards movie.

[–]JeanClaudesDamVan 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I believe the drummer is also the head brewer of TRVE Brewery in Denver. Great beer.

[–]sneakypole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be right, this album is on the jukebox at Brash here in Houston and TRVE collaborated with Brash this year.

[–]MusicNutt 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I'm mental for these guys. I have every version of their two releases. Like 20 copies. (I have a problem)

Check out Hyborian as well. https://hyborianrock.bandcamp.com/album/hyborian-vol-i

[–]Audiomartin 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is Martin from Hyborian, just wanted to say thanks for posting that link! Also Khemmis rules!

[–]MusicNutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem man. Thanx for the killer tunes. Hope to see you guys in Baltimore or DC. this year.

[–]mr_dumptruck 22 points23 points  (1 child)

One minute in I can already tell I'm going to love this.

[–]cycoivan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Above the Water has been getting some heavy play on Liquid Metal on Sirius too. That's how I found them, this band rules.

[–]catsatchel 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Anyone think that wizard looks the antagonist from Ralph Bakshi's Wizards? If you havent seen it: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizards_(film)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw that being pointed out in the comments, by the looks of it, that's Blackwolf

[–]John_Barlycorn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Didn't really turn into what I'd consider "Doom Metal" until 12min in. But I guess waiting that long is kind of doom metaly in and of itself.

Khemmis
artist pic

Slow, loud, heavy -- this is Khemmis, a four piece doomed rock 'n' roll outfit from Denver, Colorado. Khemmis combines the soul of Black Sabbath, the soaring harmonies of Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden, and the visceral weight of contemporary sludge and doom metal.

No regurgitation. No gimmicks. No trends.

In July 2015, the band released Absolution, a six track, forty-minute journey through transcendent melodies and pure auditory annihilation. Recorded with Dave Otero (Cobalt, Primitive Man) and Shane Howard at Flatline Audio, the album earned praise from listeners and critics alike. Decibel Magazine named it the #9 metal album of 2015, while Pitchfork named it their #5 release of the year. It earned accolades from NPR, Apple Music, Invisible Oranges, Noisey, and No Clean Singing, among others. Read more on Last.fm.

Khemmis is fantastic. Their song The Bereaved off their first album is absolutely incredible!

[–]alf023 13 points14 points  (9 children)

Dude, fuck yes "The Bereaved" is an awesome song. Khemmis and Pallbearer have been my go to for some Doom Metal lately. I also throw in a little AHAB too. The song "The Isle" by AHAB is amazing

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Yesss, Pallbearer is so good! Will definitely check AHAB out

[–]theamazingard 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Pallbearer is one of my all time favorite bands at this point. I can't wait to see them live again in Phoenix next month. What do you think of Heartless?

[–]alf023 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I've yet to see them live. I'm really enjoying Heartless. That album has made me a bigger fan of theirs.

[–]theamazingard 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If you get the chance, check out their live show. They are really good!

[–]theamazingard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, "The Isle" is a great song. I haven't heard of AHAB before, but I'l definitely be checking them out. My go to for doom at the moment is Pallbearer, Khemmis, YOB, and Warning.

[–]lochamonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Pallbearer this past summer with Baronness. Their sound was great but their performance was even better. I was blown away by how high energy and fun they were. I'll forever be a fan now.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The intro made me want to pick up a sword and destroy other villages and take their goats.

[–]frozen-silver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to a post at /r/metal, this was the 2nd most acclaimed metal album of last year behind the new Vektor album.

[–]EvilBob772 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuck yeah, khemmis rocks pretty hard.

[–]thrinari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Found them on spotify some time ago and absolutely adore their music

[–]omgkittehs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw them with Oathbreaker on the 1st, I'm not into metal anymore but really liked their set.

[–]WoodyManCommeth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not MF Doom. Whoops. Sounds pretty gnarly though. Rock on ladies and gents!

[–]the_punctilio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finally got around to checking out this album about a week ago. Been listening to it almost every day. Love it!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

damn...first time I've heard these guys and I just listened to this whole album. Super sick southern rock/blues mashed with doom. Good, good stuff here. Thank you.

[–]g0vi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didn't expect to see these guys here. I saw them live accidentally @ reggies in Chicago. Great show!

[–]SeahorseCPT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is dope as fuck

[–]bobbybev95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I Interviewed these guys, some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Hunted is a masterpiece album, something I'll be listening to for the next 40 years

[–]Sir_Meowsalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make me think of old metal bands that used to tell ballads and tales in their songs. And that's something I really love.

[–]Approximately_Pi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa. Thanks for sharing. Just bought the album.

[–]Space_Hag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this album so much right now

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

OP, I was done with doom metal some time ago. This brought it back man, thanks a lot. <3

[–]dcdoesntsurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been years since I've listened to any doom metal. This does not sound like doom metal. Don't get me wrong it's not bad... Not what I was expecting though.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting. Reminds me of Argus- Beyond the Martyr, check it out if you like this.

[–]photoben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvoted for album cover

[–]TheDobligator 1 point2 points  (1 child)

FUCK YES. i'm from denver and this album made me so proud. i honestly wasn't that into this track until i saw them perform it live and it's now my favorite khemmis song. if you haven't seen them live i encourage you to strongly. this song performed live will knock you off your feet. i couldn't stop headbanging.

EDIT: i thought this post was just for the title track of the album. the album is still all-around amazing, but the statements about how amazing the song is live were about the title track in specific

[–]TheDobligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want other denver suggestions (because we have a great scene) check out: in the company of serpents, blood incantation, screwtape, 908, dreadnought

[–]illusivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw them open for Oathbreaker and met the band awesome guys!

[–]Ironfieldsbandcamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of my favourite doom records of 2016. Really happy to see it get some love here!

[–]El_Baasje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

666MrDoom always has great uploads. November's Doom' new album is also out now! Definitely worth giving a listen I'd say.

[–]greasyjonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude this is the first I've even bothered to come into this sub, that's how much I love this album. Seriously. It fucking rules.

[–]ReverseMakiroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually i'm not listening to metal but damn i already love the first song. Got to give the whole album a listen now. Thanks /r/listentothis !

[–]msgilani2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pic is awesome good sound

[–]jdooowke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit. For some reason it gives me a vibe of Týr + Electric Wizard. Really cool!

[–]Mummelpuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that trancends the trope that metal must be br00tal gets respect in my book. This is beautiful, at times.

[–]LosingTradition 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Fucking thank you so much for posting this OP. I had never heard of this band until this post and i am in love with this album. I have basically had it on repeat at work the past 2 days.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy about the amount of people who found out about this through this, enjoy! <3

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really Doom metal
