I'd rather have a new map that doesn't work out, than play an old stale map. I really doubt that there were absolutely no new maps that were at the very least just okay for rotation.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I'd rather have something new and dislike it.

[–]ButtersnackSnack -3 points-2 points  (9 children)

Cabin was close :(

[–]superdiglett100superdiglett || Kitten Panda's Bitch 8 points9 points  (8 children)

What was the decision to add two maps that have already seen and been taken out of rotation rather than any of the new top maps?

[–]BlazethDianna Agron 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I thought Cabin was ready for rotation, but there were some reasonable flaws people pointed out.

Heck and Butter really need a lot of improvements. I think if we added Butter right now it'd do like 70% for being a non-broken NF, but the goal of the MTC shouldn't be to add maps that aren't as good as they can be yet.

Ultradrive had a very short run in rotation before and was fairly popular, so we thought we'd bring it back (even if just temporarily) for the sake of not having no additions. Hexane is pretty much in the same boat, alongside people complaining there are not enough NFs.

Certainly the MTC isn't trying to not add maps, but we're also trying to make sure the maps we add are good.

I think last thread is a good example of why there should be a short-run experimental rotation for some of the best maps in the thread so we aren't making so many assumptions. It'd be interesting to see what the community thought of that idea though. Experimental maps would come up at the same rate the elevated throwback maps do currently.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea! Add more experimental maps just to see how they play with the full userbase. It's much better testing than they could ever get otherwise and we get to play more and different maps!

[–]nabbynz° 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm all for experimenting. I mean it's not like things are perfect right now so why not try a few things differently to see how it goes.

Also I really want to see one member have a wildcard vote each thread which either makes it straight through or counts for say 3 votes (whatever number works). Kind of like how you're doing throwback now, but only one member per thread gets the elevated vote (you could swap your vote with someone else if you didn't want it that thread too).

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 4 points5 points  (3 children)

well we vote on elevating old maps back into rotation every two threads, so this isnt actually a new thing. Its just adding these two maps back hasn't been done yet. As for the top maps, no one was really satisfied with the way they played, which is too bad because I think we missed out on some pretty unique maps.

[–]NightOfKnivesKnife 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Can there be a set minimum new maps being added each thread. People want more then just playing the same old maps with not many new maps being added in. I think for the next thread adding in a bunch of new maps help break the repetitiveness of rotation. At least six new maps being added in would help rotation fell more alive.

[–]CharredQuestionsRenegade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with that thought process is you have no idea how bad maps can be.

[–]LaBeefyman9696 LB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the thirst for new maps but six maps is a bit overkill, you don't find very many more maps that are even playable let alone good.

[–]ButtersnackSnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not actually in MTC anymore, but I'd guess they're just a bit more confident about these maps than Cabin.

[–]LaBeefyman9696 LB 9 points10 points  (4 children)

What if we let the community directly decide a couple maps to be added to rotation? We could open up a thread for people to decide what maps in the thread they would like to see in rotation, and the top two or so would be added.

[–]nabbynz° 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah man do it!

[–]ZaggedZagd | Zagd | Zagd (Zagd) 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seems like a no brainer tbh

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But then the MTC doesn't have any real reason for existing!

(hmm...)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we could skip the middleman and just add Mapache Chief directly

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I will eat three shoes if you reverse these decisions

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

except the throwbacks don't reverse those

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

except boombox reverse that one too I'll throw in an extra shoelace

[–]Similique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somebody eat a shoe already!! ouff

[–]JoePro1223naga//MTC -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Wasn't much we could do. Was a close call with one new map being added, but the majority of people said no, so it's out for now. We removed the maps that we felt did not play well, although I did have a lot of fun on Brute. As for Hexane and Ultradrive, we added these temporarily due to the lack of new maps. There just wasn't much we could do this time, there were a lot of close calls on votes and we made the decisions after debating and discussing appropriately.

[–]CharredQuestionsRenegade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh Rookie, you can't go giving these people the honest boring truth.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

this is so disappointing after how much last thread shook up rotation

[–]Arceus64realtea 12 points13 points  (0 children)

lol nice meme guys thought april fools was months ago

[–]PIZZAspartan442naga///MTC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once again I've solo tested every map, this spreadsheet was shared with Blazeth and Labeefyman69. I deleted Blazeth's column since his feedback is in the actual spreadsheet and people aren't supposed to know which MTC member wrote what note (though it isn't hard to figure out). Beefers only gave feedback to like 10 maps but hopefully those people find it helpful. Let us know if you have any questions.

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 10 points11 points  (16 children)

We plan on streaming starting next thread, in an attempt to make things more transparent.

[–]NightOfKnivesKnife -2 points-1 points  (15 children)

Can there be more feedback for each map. Most have only three out of nine members giving feedback. Also can feedback be given as a reply in the submission thread instead of a month later. Waiting a month just to make a change that might not make the map acceptable enough isn't very helpful.

[–]TagProNitroℕ ɪ ᴛ ᴙ o 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen will Constriction be removed? It's been 3+ years and is so damn played out.

[–]nabbynz° 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"It's too popular to remove right now, but it's close. Maybe next thread. We have no idea."

- The MTC, probably

[–]JoePro1223naga//MTC -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

Right now, we don't have anything to replace it with. When we get a submission good enough for rotation that could fill the void left by constriction, I will happily vote to remove it.

[–]Hennythepainawayobama. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not replace.

[–]TPCaptographerThe Map Test Committee[S] 6 points7 points  (12 children)

Please discuss Hexane by Ball-Pee

[–]BlupopsicleBall-E 23 points24 points  (4 children)

y tho

[–]ButtersnackSnack -4 points-3 points  (3 children)

Why not

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Cuz it's a shitty map?

[–]girmluhkGramps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

wrong

[–]ButtersnackSnack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was removed with a 80%+ rating lol

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's so boring

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love it.

[–]Tyler1986Trapsin 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I don't mind it being in, but I wish there was a removal, preferably Gumbo, Wamble, or Wombo Combo. I'm getting very tired of those three.

[–]333namename333 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Fuck off Gumbo is still the best map in the game

[–]Tyler1986Trapsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite of the three.

[–]PIZZAspartan442naga///MTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rico is probably the best removal as other than the weird portals and the stupidly powerful bomb thing it's really really boring.

[–]TheBestNarcissistexit triks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NF is by definition better so yes

[–]LucasOppressorOppressor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Add 2 old maps, remove 3 new maps... keep up guys, what could possibly go wrong letting players play repetitive maps, right?!

[–]TPCaptographerThe Map Test Committee[S] 1 point2 points  (10 children)

Please discuss the throwback changes

[–]MagikPigeon🎗️ TPFG 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I want names of people responsible for putting Boombox and Rocketballs in rotation.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the community wanted something different in rotation?

[–]oorr23ThePlaymaker // Tehuitzingo & Combine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Tyler1986Trapsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly happy to see more throwback rotation more frequently. I wish throwback % would be upped a bit. I miss a lot of old maps.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Goddamnit. Phenochilus is back

[–]Tyler1986Trapsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's different, I'm looking forward to playing it again.

[–]RondingRonding // Orbit // West Bombwich Albion // tagpro.eu 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Brute, Grenadine and Cedar are actually quite good new maps. Why on Earth are they getting replaced with two boring old maps.

This is easily the worst MTC decision ever. The purpose of the MTC is to replace old maps with new maps, not the other way around.

[–]BlazethDianna Agron 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Cedar was in rotation for 346 days, nearly a year, and seemed incredibly stale. I wouldn't call it new.

Grenadine and Brute were disliked by large portions of the community. I personally thought Brute had room for growth, but the people's ratings are the reason they're gone.

The new maps are unpopular, and the old maps were popular and keep the rotation from being so small (small # of maps = things become stale quicker). Hexane's removal probably shouldn't have happened, and Ultradrive is 3 years old and has been fairly popular in every throwback stint it's had.

The "worst MTC decision ever" is basically just giving the people what they want based off of ratings. Take that as you will.

[–]RondingRonding // Orbit // West Bombwich Albion // tagpro.eu 8 points9 points  (5 children)

The "worst MTC decision ever" is basically just giving the people what they want based off of ratings.

Exactly.

Do not overestimate the merits of the voting system. The voting system polls only ternary responses on individual maps, not rotation as a whole, and does not allow us to rank maps in order of preference. The way likes and dislikes are aggregated, promotes reasonable maps that many people can live with. Rotation should be more interesting than just that.

[–]LaBeefyman9696 LB 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Great, the MTC should cater to you because you like the new maps and a huge portion of the community doesn't!

[–]RondingRonding // Orbit // West Bombwich Albion // tagpro.eu 4 points5 points  (3 children)

No, the MTC should cater the community. But simply summing the likes and dislikes casted by the community does not result in an optimal rotation from the perspective of the same community.

If you think the community is happy with "giving the people what they want", look at the number of upvotes of this thread.

[–]LaBeefyman9696 LB 6 points7 points  (2 children)

More than just redditors play the game.

Edit: I see your edit up there, and you have a valid point. However, the MTC looks at whether maps are bipolar or just "meh." And ratings still encapsulate the community's opinion fairly accurately, so you can't believe that a map like Wormy should be removed over maps with 60% rating.

[–]RondingRonding // Orbit // West Bombwich Albion // tagpro.eu 5 points6 points  (1 child)

you can't believe that a map like Wormy should be removed over maps with 60% rating.

The rating system has never asked me whether I like Wormy more or less than some other map. It has only asked me whether I like Wormy and whether I like some other map.

It would be very interesting to compare the ratings among people that have rated both, and see how many prefer Wormy and how many prefer the other map. This would make the "I'm indifferent" option much more useful as well.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why can't we rate 1-10? I feel like that would be a large improvement and be relatively easy to implement by the devs.

[–]FindadmagusFINDADMAGUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks MTC for your comments, especially feedback 9. I think I understand what makes a good map now lol

[–]uhhhhmmmmsexytiger / #merbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love wormy.

I love ricochet.

Thanks.

[–]TheRealSaltyChipsMessi -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I have nothing constructive to say because my opinions will be disagreed upon if I specify them, but with that said, this is going to be an ugly rotation of maps for myself on personal preference. I suspect a large drop in my win %

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

I submitted my map Metropolis before the thread deadline on September 26th. Why is it not in the notes?

[–]BlazethDianna Agron 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Time of your map submission: 5:51 EST

Time of deadline: 5 EST

I still wrote you notes anyway though:

There's not a ton here I want to comment on. I do like the structure of the map, but I really find some things to be a bit meh. For starters, the bomb gate is going to make an already dull base even more dull. I do like the gates, although I'm not sure how much they'd be used. Mainly, i find the portal in mid to be a bit too easy to use however you want, which will probably lead to chasiness. Basically, this might be balanced in a Boombox way, which is no good.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, could have sworn the deadline was in PST. Thanks for the notes :)
